What a tremendous performance from the victors. Dare I say it was an Open-and-shut case! Gavaghan on fire once again, while Davidson has a truly freakish range of knowledge, and is sheer lightning on the buzzer. A team to be reckoned with for sure.
I think this was the best demonstration of why James Davidson was a finalist on Mastermind last year 🧠💪 - Mind you, everyone got at least one starter-for-ten right again which is great to see. The losers sadly couldn't really match up on the buzzer or bonuses to the winners - great match though - long may it continue :).
Thanks CosmicP, as always! Open did splendidly! Davidson is a star on anything "cultural", of which there seemed to be a lot of questions tonight. Captain G runs a fast and efficient ship!!
I really like how Gavaghan plays, seems to be a good captain. And armed with Davidson, this team can win it all. He's superb. The rest of the team seem reliable and solid, they'll just take some more points left after the two leaders.
One of my highlights of the week, thanks uploading each week. Davidson gave a brilliant performance, Romans, Holt and Gavaghan did well too, well done.
@@codyobaker as far as art and literature goes he is one of the most insane contestants I have ever seen on this show. His knowledge of literature is comparable to Zeng's knowledge of Geography. How many English literature questions can you give in one session? I have never seen a round with as many book related questions as this one. They practically gave the eng lit student the win.
Thanks again, CosmicPumpkin1 Just now getting around to watching this on Friday, been a busy week. And the winning team was busy, too. Busy answering questions. I said in their last match that with the right questions, they could win it all. If anything, they seem to have expanded their knowledge base. If this keeps up, they could be series winners. Bad luck to the losing team to run up against a juggernaught so soon. My best to both teams, and each indivual.
CosmicP: Thank you so much! You rule my world! Now we know that the last round wasn't a fluke and that the Open University is a very serious contender. The speed at which they went about things was absolutely breathtaking. I think they are the fastest we have ever seen. Oh, and Davidson is a machine! Absolutely stunning! I think in thiys year's competition, the Open University is the most excting team.
Yes ☺ - she was a member of the Harlequins that reached the QFs in the series last year. That team also had John Robinson as their captain (£500,000 winner on WWTBAM in 2019 and QF'ist with Birmingham on UC in 2021-22) and Michael Joel Bartelle as the third member (captain of the same Birmingham team that reached the 2021-22 QF's of UC).
I'm always slightly sceptical of teams where one player does most of the heavy lifting. While the rest of the team are good, I fear Open will go as far as Davidson can carry them. RGU last series were similar.
Sssh! "Geopolitics since WW2" ? A very long-overdue and uniquely(existentially!) crucial category of questions finally seems to have been (very tentatively/quietly) given the green light in this series with our new, young-ish post-Paxman question-master: It's certainly high time to fill this chasmic knowledge, intelligence and Q&A void...but what a minefield it'll inevitably/hopefully prove to be if the last 75 years of tumultuous geopolitics is allowed to feature permanently - right up there with...pop-music. Very fast paced , exciting match! Open was an outstanding team and UEA not too shabby...well done to all the players. Thanks for our weekly fix..always so disappointed when l hear the gong at the end 😟
Funny how the two teams from the repechage are killing it. I guess that means also that the teams that defeated them in the first place are going to be powerful opponents in the future
I certainly think Hertford will have something to offer - even though it's my alma mater I'm not as sure about Manchester, but we'll just have to see. Hertford does I think have a nasty draw playing UCL in just under two weeks' time, and I don't think it'll be any easier for Manchester whomever they play - makes for compelling viewing though :).
First time I watch this competition. I would think that a team that lost in the narrowest margine (sort of) and than beat another team that lost in a narrow margin/scored high, will be predicted to be very strong. Go advance the recouche round they had competed with every other loser, and beaten the best of the losers. That’s a stronger screening than beating one team. Isn’t that a common phenomenon?
What a great match!! Winners, if you're reading this, best of luck to you all in getting through. I really hope you do. Thanks very much, CP - really enjoying this series. What would we do without you? 💞
Thanks CosmicPumpkin. Good to get a little culture here in Texas. When Gavaghan says she's from London, I think she's teasing us b/c she's from London, Ontario, Canada - 'cause people from London mention their little bit of it, like Whitechapel, Mayfair, Knightsbridge, etc

have to feel for UEA- they didn't play particularly poorly, just ran into a buzzsaw

Davidson with 9/9 is wild. I think he's one of the strongest contestants we've seen in a while.
I feel the sequence in UniChallenge that English literature students tend to be strong in the buzzer quiz.
Is it just my imagination, maybe?

Four Tolkien questions and a Shiress. My inner nerd is happy.

Davidson carried with most of the questions being some sort of book or poetry or author questions. Can you get a more even split next time.
She wasn't *wrong* with Pavlovian, but I can't think of any other terms it could precede, possibly a meringue dessert comparison.
I don't think that should have been incorrect at all. Pavlovian and classical conditioning are apparently the same thing.
@@Ninterd2 they are the same thing. But I can't fathom anything else Pavlovian precedes. Just unfortunate they're both 9 letters

Imagine if they bought a university to dominate UC a la the Premier League?

Hope we're not dealing with avatar=winner again!
Why does Gavaghan say she's from London, when she's clearly American?
Wow, this round hd so many hard questions o_O
How are you American from London
Oh Davidson, I want to have your babies!

True
Why wouldn't they be so long as they attend an eligible university?

It's not a sports league it's a silly little TV show with no prize money
