59.F0 Error How to fix for FREE!!! HP M651, HP 4025, HP 4525, HP M3525, HP M551

- There is a lot of misinformation about this issue on the internet and in the HP repair manuals for each of these models. This will fix your machine every time guaranteed!
It starts out as an intermittent issue that can be fixed by powering the machine off and then back on and over time develops into a permanent error code.

Many thanks for taking the time and effort to post this walkthrough video with tips! Especially the part of ensuring that solenoid arm is reseated properly after reinstalling the newly cleaned solenoid. This procedure has successfully revived another CP4025 with that 59.F0 error.
Thanks for the help here, but I'm still having problems with my 4025... I was getting 59.F0 error while trying to print, and then on startup before I could print anything. I followed your video (great job), put everything back together. I was encouraged when I was able to print 3 test pages with no issues. After that, it gives me 59.F0 right after it starts to print. Since it did print 3 pages correctly, I am quite sure I got the solenoid arm reset properly, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Thanks again for your video!
I would bet there is still residue on the solenoid causing it to stick. I have never seen one throw this particular error for any other reason.

Just regarding the arm on the solenoid, instead of using a pick to reseat the arm I used a piece of thread to hold the arm back, basically push a loop of thread through the right hand locating hole on the solenoid back plate, loop it round the arm and pull the thread back so the arm contacts the solenoid base.
Apply some tape to the thread ends to prevent slippage.
Fit the unit back and tighten the screws loosely.
You should now be able to remove the tape and pull on one end of the thread and remove it, and the arm should then be in position on the drum. Tighten the screws and it should work. Did it for me 5:14

I had a HP CP3525 with this 59.FO error and had done all the work on that Solenoid with Heat-shrink from all the other Videos but had still got this error ... until I refitted that Solenoid while holding back that 'trigger catch' which you highlighted at 23.50 on this video. FYI I looped a thread around it, pulled it back and brought the thread around front, wrapped it on the end of the screw that sticks out there, fitted solenoid unit back in place and tightened one screw before withdrawing the thread - error is now gone :)))) Seán

Glad you got yours fixed. They are great color printers aside from that solenoid sticking. Don't see many labor intensive repairs on these models once the solenoid is fixed.

I had managed to repair the sensor, (CP4525) but then I had the problem of the transfer belt missing. with a needle I pushed the flap as explained in the video and bingo, it works.

Got that job to do tomorrow so thanks. But what a pain. A fraction of a cent foam pad causing that much trouble. I remember an Oki Data machine with the same kind of failure but on a paper feed solenoid. So thanks again.
@f4phone104 pretty much every hp ever made has same issue with feed solenoids. Good for about 10 years then they stick.

No that would be different. Off top of my head i think that is some kind of motor rotation error. I would try removing all 4 toner cartridges, then booting it up.

В итоге, принтер сначала даже уехал в ремонт к мастерам, но они сказали, что у них он не показывал ошибку 59.F0 и печатал исправно. А как только мы привезли его обратно в офис, он снова выдал ошибку 59.F0. Полагаю, транспортировка как-то поспособствовала тому, что соленоид стал лучше ходить, когда принтер попал в ремонт, но когда вернулся в офис, проблема вернулась.. Однако, в итоге, починив его сам, я очень доволен собой :) И благодарен Вам!!
Были пару расхождений при разборке, немного по-другому снимаются верхние крышки, но это не создало проблём. Ремонт действительно не трудный, если делать всё последовательно и воспользоваться Вашим отличным советом выложить по порядку снятые детали, а потом в обратном порядке вернуть их на месте (для удобства на них же можно складывать все болты, которые к ним относились, тогда вообще минимальные шансы где-то ошибиться при сборке).Да, потребуется 2-4 часа свободного времени и внимания, но думаю, оно того стоит и принтер ещё очень долго не вернется к этой проблеме.

Funciona correctamente, el problema de los SOLENOIDES de HP ocurre en muchas impresoras, no solo en estos modelos. Se recomiendo actualizar el firmware de la maquina tambien. Buen video.

Great video. Have an old 4525 and the differences due to age were easy to negotiate. Have a dumb question: In reassembling the solenoid bumped the screwdriver and dropped the left screw; darned if I can locate it! I can easy replace but can I do so and re-assemble of do I need to find it?
Just use another screw to hold that plate in. You can leave one out of the formatter pan since they used way too many screws to attach that. Lol!
Awesome video, best I've ever seen on printer repair BTW. I went through this on a CP4525 and everything booted up properly. Upon trying to print a test page I now get a 13.05.00 fuser area jam every time which I wasn;t getting before. Any ideas if something I did could now cause this error?
In theory, if you did anything incorrectly it would not come to ready. Probably just a coincidence.
Just FYI in case it helps anyone else, tried another fuser and still got the same error so I knew it had to be something I did. Researched and figured out one of the plugs in the DC Controller (J127) controls the "fuser delivery sensor". Checked it and I hadn't plugged it in all the way on one side. After fixing that it worked like a charm! I've already reparied two other printers with this same error with no issues and two more to go. Your video has helped me more than you know!@@KenKyleRacing
@@user-ov3ms5zl4n I've done the same with different plugs, it's very easy to miss getting them plugged all the way back in since there are so many of them. Mine booted up straight to an error code when i did it tho.
Nice job. I like your vidoes, pls, make one explaning why is one color is not printing corretly. What i mean is the color is blure or kind of off the page. I have replaced the cartridge but the issue has not gone. Thank you.
Print a supply status page and verify that the color swatches for each color are perfectly centered inside the black border around each color swatch. A lot of times the belt can cause one or more of the colors to not be perfectly aligned, which results in the prints looking blurry. I would try a full calibration of colors first if you have not already done that.

Hi Ken. Hope you are doing great. Your video was very informative and it helped me fix the issue with error 59.F0 on my HP CP4025. I have another issue which is showing a display message that the Front Door is Open. I have searched and cannot find any resources outlining how to fix that problem. I have removed the toner collection unit and inserted it back, but the issue persist. Even when the door is closed the message is still there. What recommendations do you have or can you do a video?
If the machine has been taken apart, I would recommend checking all the plugs on the dc controller. There is probably either one disconnected or not fully seated. The switch itself is not known for going bad.

Thank you for your video. I fixed the 59.F0, my CP 4525 started working; However, the quality of printing is really poor. All colors are faded. I tried to reset manufactory default setting. Cleaning page. Check all toners. Colors are 45%, back is 98%. Please advise what needs to be fixed?
If colors were fine before fixing, I'd double check the upper high voltage board is seated correctly. That is highly unlikely tho. In the troubleshooting menu there is a ppq troubleshooting test, print that out so you can see if it is just one color or two that are light. If so replace the toner cartridges that are light. The % life only tells you how much toner is in the cartridge, there are several other components in the cartridge that can fail before all the toner is used. Those components aren't built to last more than 10-15k pages. Might want to print a supply status page too, that will tell you how many pages are on each cartridge.
You dont need felt or tape. Its only to calm the clicking noise. Clean it up and it will never stick.
I now know what is wrong with my CM4540 MFP but I have no idea what the teardown is any chance you can do a video of that. It's a big ask but it's a much bigger machine.
Unfortunately I don't have access to one of those, but it should be relatively easy if you have a service manual.

I've taken this apart down to the solenoid 3 times now. I've cleaned it very thoroughly with alcohol- it's not sticking, I'm certain of that. I've made sure the solenoid arm is reset. One thing that might be a clue... I'm hearing what sounds like plastic gears slipping/stripping around that same area. Perhaps this is producing the same sort of error, but for slightly different reasons? Another clue-- as I understand it, this starts out as an intermittent problem (once the felt starts to deteriorate) and gradually becomes constant. In my case, this problem, once it started, has been constant-- there was no intermittent state. I'm starting to think this is the end of this printer. Too bad too-- it really doesn't have a very high print count. If there are any other suggestions, I'm happy to hear them. Thank you!
Grinding noise is probably the black cartridge drive motor. Pull it out and the motor next to it and you can compare the drive spindles of both. Black is probably worn down. I usually swap black with the yellow if i do not have a brand new motor to replace it with.

Then, I took a short video of the solenoid doing its job-- and it seems to me like that is working properly-- maybe this video can confirm that:

But then I did a little manual turning of some gears (maybe this was a bad idea) and the spring and the solenoid arm popped off (didn't know that was possible). I can see the spring laying just under the solenoid, so with another teardown, I'm sure I can retrieve it. The solenoid arm is probably not far off from there, I just can't see it from the hole in the top.
If you think this is all still fixable for a novice such as myself, I'm willing to keep at it. At some point it isn't worth the time to put into it, but if it is reasonable I'll keep going Again, I appreciate all of your help here.
@nathanlawrence9838 depends on what your time is worth. These are great printers and once solenoid is fixed not much else goes bad that isn't easy to fix. You might want to just replace the entire fuser drive assembly if it is still throwing the 59 error. Maybe something else was knocked out of place in the drive assembly.
Hello... I have this 59, F0 error on an HP CP4525 printer. I have no idea where you're located, but if you aren't too far away is there any chance of bringing my printer by to have you look at it? I'm in Florida. Maybe you're too far away, but I thought I'd ask!

Pull the formatter out and reseat it. If it still does it, pull the back cover off and reset the ribbon cable on the dc controller that is attached to the interconnect board (board that formatter plugs into)
@@KenKyleRacing Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested and still getting stuck at 6/6 A/F. I did notice that the silver lines on the end of the ribbon, some of them are not complete, they look like maybe they have been scraped off or something.
Thanks again for your help in this video. I seem to have gotten my printer working, finally, after it sitting for about 2 years, but now it is printing completely black pages. Would this be caused by a low black toner cartridge?
No but a defective cartridge can cause solid black pages. Might want to remove and reinstall formatter to make sure it has good connection.
I've tried reinstalling the formatter, but no luck. Ordered a new cartridge that will be coming later today and hoping it will work@@KenKyleRacing

@@user-bw4bl5kl4k i would revisit all the connections you had to disconnect during initial repair, but i would look at the connections on the upper high voltage board first.

How to replace solenoid on HP M551, I try to remove the cover plate (fix solenoid) , but can't. It differences from this clip.
Ya I just had to do one last week, it's much more of a pain. You have to remove the entire fuser drive assembly, then there is a small plate on the backside of the drive assby that comes off with 2 screws, then you can access the solenoid.

I've never run into that issue, but I would double check that you didn't miss a plug on the dc controller or maybe one plug didn't get pushed all the way in.
@@KenKyleRacing When I got that "missing transfer unit" message I had to take off the top of the machine and flick the solenoid lever so it was against the gear as you explained. I had not done that when I cleaned and replaced the solenoid the first time.
@@richardhallman6904 someone commented recently that you can accomplish the same thing by rotating one of the gears on top of the fuser drive until you hear it click. I never remember to try it when I'm repairing the solenoid tho.
I followed the solution for my HP CP4525dn and now the printer displays error 59.C0 upon bootup. The printer's gears are making a screech when booting up.
What should I try?
I'd verify you seated the solenoid arm properly first, make sure it isn't riding against the gear. one question, i finished everything, but when i put it back together, i get a message as if i don't have the transfer kit installed. what could it be? is it that i connected something wrong?
Probably one of the plugs not fully seated.
Rip, I got to 20:30 but lost the spring and hook somewhere, and I can’t seem to find replacement parts for it. Guess I’ll have to just throw this away after all that work
Was it the metal plate on the solenoid that you lost? Worst case you could but a new fuser drive assembly and pull the solenoid out of it.
@@KenKyleRacing the hook and the spring that attach to the solenoid is what dropped into the printer.

I have two of these doing the same thing. Can you test before you replace the plastic covers?
Yes you can test it without putting the covers back on, just keep an eye on the paper exiting the fuser because without the cover in place it will hit the spring for the output tray.
Please can you do a video for HP MFP M775 printer? I have fixed two but what a tedious process.

On my m651 i got 59 f0 then i follow this procedure and i made sure to rotate the gear till i hear the sound. Now i get 59 00 F0 error. What to do?
Same thing. Either solenoid is sticking, or it is not seated correctly.

Thank you so much for this video! After re-assembling everything and powering my CP4025 back up, the startup process gets stuck at "6/6 A/F", and the 3 status lights cycle through over and over again. Ideas?
Remove the formatter completely from machine, then power it up. After a few minutes you can run an engine test when everything stops spinning. Engine test button is on the dc controller, there is an access hole on back cover where you can poke it with a toothpick or if you have back cover off you can press it with your finger. It should give you a page with a bunch of lines with each color printed. If that works, that means everything other than the formatter is ok.
@@KenKyleRacing I tried powering up after removing the formatter, but nothing really seemed to come on at all. So, I opened 'er back up a bit and checked the cables. Turns out, one of them was only partially plugged in. However, after plugging it fully in and powering back up, I got another error-57.04-which led me to finding a *second* (slightly hidden) cable that wasn't plugged in that powered one of the fans. Now that it is plugged in as well, it all works! Thanks again.
@@edpankau good job sticking with it, a lot of people would gave given up after the first time it didn't work. Those cables can be a pain, I try to check all the ones on the board twice and make sure they are in because I've left some half plugged in 2 or 3 times in the past and gotten weird error codes.

@@edpankau i've heard people say the belt itself can cause that error, but I have never seen it myself. It's always been that solenoid for me. I'd bet there is still some residue on either the actuator or the base causing it to stick.
I was able to clear the error on a 4525, but now the print color density is really low... patchy pastel colors and grey instead of black. Any idea why?
The error starts as an intermittent problem, it will come back. Have you tried printing PPQ troubleshooting pages from the printer control panel? If it looks bad from there, it could be the transfer belt. If only one of the solid fill page colors looks light it is probably a cartridge issue.
@@KenKyleRacing Yes, got the solenoid cleaned off, reseated properly, and no issue there anymore. But after reassembly PQ test pages are very low density and can't make secondary colors like purple or orange. Replaced fuser, ITB, and all toner cartridges but that didn't change anything. Something happened to cause this while fixing the solenoid. Printer is no longer throwing any errors. Just can't actually create a usable printed image. Only seeing patchy pastels of CMYK. Any idea what could be failing here?
@@user-hj1eq7so6g i would double check everything you touched while getting to the solenoid, make sure the upper high voltage board is seated properly and make sure every plug is fully seated.
excellent video thanks! on our cp5225n did this before and it worked fine for a bit- but found that the tape we used didnt hold. so just redid it with your help! however, now the print stops about 1in out of the fuser and stops with a paper jam error. prints most of page, and is fusing about half a page correctly. absolutely consistent error. cant seem to find anything that would tell us what is happening. paper isnt jammed, and pulls out easily each time. looks to us to be a sensor or gear set that is misaligned, no doubt from something i did. any thoughts or direction where to look? we need this printer to send out flyers for the nonprofit. if you could weigh in would be awesome! dont think it is the gear arm on the solenoid, it aligns with the solenoid arm lined up- I think... output rollers work fine on boot and during printing until it decides to stop at 1.25in of page exiting the rollers, happens consistently from bottom tray and side tray
If you print an event log, what is the code and the words next to the code?
@@KenKyleRacing aloha and thanks for replying! starting with the most recent prints- 3790-3782; code 13.0000, a few previous prints also had 59.0240, although it has stopped as of print 3782. print 3776 had 54.1203 just occurring once. this was a donated printer- had worked flawlessly except for the previous issue with the 59.f0 which worked for about 1k pages. The tape we used didnt stick properly- cheap stuff I picked up in china. so, went back in. Given that the repair is in the area of these drives and gearsets, Im thinking i misaligned something- just cant sort out what it might be.
@@hohonukai typically if something was misaligned you would either have horrible noises when you powered it on or it would throw an error on bootup. If it comes to ready you probably did everything correctly putting it back together. Could just be coincidence that it started jamming after the repair. Haven't seen a whole lot of that model in my career.
@@KenKyleRacing well- ill keep trying. it does seem to make more noises (gears) on boot up- but we cant remember if that is normal or not. if we can get the cp6015dn to stop streaking big bands top and bottom, we'll use that instead :) thank you so much for your help!

Those are a bit different, and I haven't run into that model having this issue, but I also don't see a ton of them. What error code are you getting?
@@KenKyleRacing it is the very same 59.F0 and i think the controller prints may be arranged a little different but the culprit solenoid should be on the same position.
@@mgsp5871 I'd bet you are correct. I don't know if the 5225 has the solenoid accessible like this model, but worst case you'll have to take it apart a bit further and remove the entire fuser drive assembly to get to the solenoid.
I tried this fix and still got the 59.F0 error. Ive also switched out the fuser drive and ITB. Ive read about changing out the SR9 Sensor but i have not been able to find that specific part anywhere. Anything else i could try?
Double check that the solenoid isn't still sticking and that the arm of the solenoid is seated correctly when reinstalling it into the drive assembly. Most of the time it is the arm of the solenoid riding against the gear instead of seated properly on the gear.

Ken, I followed you excellent instructions to a T. However, my foam appears intact and not sticking. While this could be the problem, I noticed they gear that it connects to is split down the edge, like turning a steak on its side and fileting a steak. Both halves are missing some teeth, but it appears to be engineered that way. When turning the fuzer drive motor "gray cylinder", that gear is clicking and is only trying to move the gear half closest to me. This might sound like nonsense, and I can upload a video that demonstrates this, but do you have any ideas?
You might have to replace entire drive assembly. It is rare but they do go bad every now and again. Did you make sure after you put the solenoid back in, that it was seated properly and not riding against the gear?
Yeah, I found out that after you put the solinoid clutch back in, you need to have the transfer belt out & spin the motor to the left of the clutch, clockwise until the arm seats into that gear you mentioned = the gear is built with 2 halves & missing teeth on purpose so that when the arm magnetically is pulled back, then the gear turns to engage the transfer belt & later again to dis-engage the belt drive. You can even manually push the arm down with a small screwdriver & then spin the motor again & watch how the gears engage for 1 rotation until they hit the missing teeth. Then you know it is seated well.
I followed all the steps. My printer does not turn on .what did I do wrong?

@@ilhamcherti7821 take back cover off. The small board just to left of formatter has a power plug on bottom of it that comes from power supply that needs plugged in. If that plug is already secure, check the plugs at bottom of dc controller that come from the power supply at bottom of machine. The wires for those should be green. I'd double check all the plugs on dc controller while you are in there. Sometimes they feel like they went in but one is isn't fully seated.
I'd reinserted check all the plugs on dc controller .finnaly my printer turn on.but I have a message error 59.05.60.Thanks@@KenKyleRacing
@@ilhamcherti7821 that code means the black cartridge motor is not rotating. The black cartridge motor and its plug are not touched in this repair, but it is common for the splines on the shaft of the motor to get ground down to nothing and eventually get that error, but it's usually around 800k pages. You could try swapping the black motor with another color motor to see if the error changes or visually inspect the splines on the motor to see if they are badly worn.

It should, it's a pretty common issue on these models. Once you get the solenoid out you can verify it, squeeze the actuator down as hard as you can several times. It should always bounce back immediately and never stick. If it is intermittent, it is probably just starting to stick occasionally but will get worse over time as the pad breaks down and turns into basically a glue like substance.

Cyan motor not turning. If the cyan toner is not genuine HP, I'd start with replacing the cyan toner, otherwise it is probably a bad cyan motor. I've never seen a motor fail on an m551 tho.

@@0321kashif all four motors are on the main drive assembly. Once you remove the upper high voltage board you can see them. Three screws and one plug and it pops right out.

Rm2-6435 is a fuser rebuild kit, ce506a is an entire fuser. Neither are related to this video or the error code.

@@adewaleanifowose6622 ya then the fox will be the solenoid just like in this video. Not sure on that model if the solenoid is easily accessible tho, you might have to remove the entire fuser drive assembly to access the solenoid.

Disassembly is probably a little different, but root cause of error should be the same.

Depends on if there is a print job in the print queue. If there is no job in the queue that is responsible for crashing the printer, it is probably either a bad cable or the usb port on the printer is bad. That isn't a very common issue on HP laserjets tho, so I would make sure the print queue is empty on the PC first.

when the panel cable is removed the printer turns on normally, when the cable is plugged in again the printer immediately turns off and starts again like that if the panel cable is attached

I do not, but if you have any friends that like to work on cars, they could probably handle it with the video as a reference. It's more of a tedious repair than a difficult one.

@@waynearute5910 sort of....I bracket race and index race and do some NMRA events where the goal is to average 12.0 seconds on the nose. Real go fast racers don't consider it racing, but it keeps me off the street til I can afford a real race car one of these days

@@waynearute5910 depends on if you can find someone honest and reasonable. There is no cost for the part, and it can be done in a hour or two, but finding a good honest person to work on it is the hard part.

Not 100% sure, I have not run into that model very often, but I believe the fuser drive solenoid causes the same error on that model.

fake fake. doesn't work. you think it is fixed but. it just fakes you with the same intermittent error. if you can even get the printer back together.
Watch the part about making sure you get the solenoid arm in the right space when you put it back into the drive. I've probably done 20-30 of these.
It's worked for many people, multiple times, including myself. This isn't always the fix or complete fix, but it will work for most of the 59.F0 error.
