    Another helpfull trick you can do like n°10 for visibility of your meshes is to isolate the ones you want to work with. You just need to push ctrl+1 and all the other things except the ones you had selected will disappear from your viewport until you press the combination again. I've been using this alot beacause you can use it for both object and component selection.

    Just would like to add that when moving the pivot; by holding 'D', you can also snap to vertex (also hold 'V') or grid (hold 'X'), that way you can place it precisely where you wish to put it.
    Thanks for the tips though, there was a few that I did not know and shall come in handy.

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I know about snapping but I wanted to do 1 tip per item

    instead of hitting ctrl+H to make an object disappear, you can add it to a layer. this way, you can turn it off and on quickly and easily for the rest of the time that you're working on it.

    I don't use Maya that much anymore but these that you call "tips and tricks" are the basics of maya...

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And ?......

    • @xThirdOpsx
      @xThirdOpsx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Hermes
      And all I want to say is that you should be more coerent with the title, it should be "My top 10 basic tips" not even "tricks", because again these are basic things you should know if you use maya. Also in number 4 you sad "there is no additional mesh going on", like...are you serious? If you really know what you are talking about then you should know that hitting 3 on the keyboard actually subdivides the mesh, but its not applying the subdivision to the original model, its just creating another model and showing you that model with the subdivision you have set in the smooth mesh panel in the attribute editor (see here prntscr.com/cotxas), if you still dont belive me try to hit 3 on a high poly model, you will see that it will take several seconds if not more to smooth preview, thats because it is actually subdiving the mesh and show you the result apart from the original model. No hate man, just want to be clear. Cheers

    • @josephbrandenburg4373

      I'm curious about Maya. What about it is better than Blender? What is your favorite tool in Maya- what can you do with Maya that yoh can't do with any other tool?
      I keep trying to learn it, but I don't like the interface. It seems limiting and slow, maybe just because I had a bad teacher. But it doesn't seem to be worth $1000 a year compared to Blender, which of course is free (I have donated to Blender, though).

    difference between detach and extract in maya?

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Extract let's you "stretch" out a face without removing it from it's original location. Detach cuts it so you can move it

    1:50 how about the b for background lol

    • @pandabearlp
      @pandabearlp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ''b'' does stand for background and I am sure Mike knows that, but that is not what he was trying to convey. He was trying to convey communication code as to not confuse similar sounding letters. The proper universal code would have been ''bravo''. Here is the list: A = Alpha
      B = Bravo
      C = Charlie
      D = Delta
      E = Echo
      F = Foxtrot
      G = Golf
      H = Hotel
      I = India
      J = Juliet
      K = Kilo
      L = Lima
      M = Mike
      N = November
      O = Oscar
      P = Papa
      Q = Quebec
      R = Romeo
      S = Sierra
      T = Tango
      U = Uniform
      V = Victor
      W = Whiskey
      X = X-Ray
      Y = Yankee
      Z = Zulu

    • @MLS.22
      @MLS.22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      :3

    • @SSegal
      @SSegal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You both make valid points, but using "background" for "b" is easier to remember and adequately clear, in fact, one of the words he uses is "berry" which is a bad choice as "b" can sound like "v" and "berry" can sound like "very". "b" is also for "brush" for the area affected (tip #7). And of course "d" for "duplicate", "h" for "hide".
