Why cant the bank take gold deposit instead of cash deposit and pay interest. RBI can print the note and circulate against this gold deposit. Gold is any day more stable than currency.

Bank managers are reluctant and fearful to lend. The crucial reason is accountability. If a loan were to go bad, he would be held accountable. At the corporate level, the reverse happens.
Due to political pressure or otherwise, when a bad loan is granted, the bank invariablely will be saddled with NPA. Earlier, this was the norm. Today, it happens, though, at a much lesser scale.
All these are happening more in public sector banks. Earlier bank customers were either ignorant of or fearful of losses in stock market.
With the advent od social media they are aware of attractive but potential profit in investment in stocks directly or mutual funds. They have become knowledgeable and bolder too.
Interest on bank deposit is pittance like peanuts and negligible . It doesn't even cover inflation. RBI has to take note of the above points.
