So this was closer to the time she had just been filming it. Sometime later in another interview, she said to the effect of being in Star Wars ruined her career.
@@padmeamidalatruesenator9756I mean... inside their universe and with all the support material they are the GOAT. But as stand-alone movies... as a Star Wars fan, I find they lack some things story wise.
She was unfamiliar with the franchise, but when she was going to be apart of it, she went out and studied from the source material so she could do her best. That's more than we can say for Disney
@@dehistoriapisciumfish7639 Yeah, right. That is why they let Rian Johnson on the second sequel to write the story book and play Regisseur. The guy even openly said that he doesn't like star wars once. It's all about money like always and that was a zero effort performance of his and then JJ was expected to save Rian's Trainwreck in the last movie. Don't defend that company anymore. They don't deserve it. They had no over-arching plot plan for their trilogy from the very beginning and were improvising as it came.
That fact that she made an effort, watched the original films and didn't go in with the mindset of hating the fanbase puts her MILES ahead of what Disney is doing to the franchise now.
@@javiercortes5232 True. the semi-anonymity does cause people to say some pretty dumb things, however it also allows for reaction and opinion that would have otherwise gone unsaid. Even Umberto Eco can be a egotisctical a-hole about people sometimes.
She wasn't a fan, but actually went out and watched the films, did the research and tried to learn and understand the universe. Even little things like this are worth respecting, even if the films couldn't stood up to the standards of the originals.
I think this is an important thing to note on an era where people are signing up for and taking over franchises they hate and refusing to honor the source material.
If all she had to do was watch a few films and consult the overly enthusiastic ravings of the "Star Wars Nut Community" to " prepare" for a role, then it literally could have been ANYONE cast in the role. Actors and actresses spew such meaningless bullshit about "preparation" to stand in front of a camera and read lines from overlarge bits of cardboard.
I think it's great because it shows she respects her fans and audience...imagine that. Compare that to today where filmmakers want to insult the intelligence of their audiences and lecture them about some random social issue while still expecting their money and then gaslight them by complaining about how "toxic" they are.
Look how humble and likable she is never disrespected the franchise … compare that to the new acolyte show with the main character OSHA who shits on the Star Wars fans every chance she gets. reminds me of Rachel Ziegler disrespecting the snow White movie and still expecting people to come watch the film. The disconnect on modern day actors is unbelievable.
George Lucas's Star Wars prequel trilogy is a pure masterpiece, a wonderful, magnificent, exciting, significant, and extremely rich work that has greatly contributed to the story, universe, characters, lore, and mythology of Star Wars. She didn't know the material, but she went and watched it and respected it. Notice the difference between her and modern Star Wars actors. Writers, too.
Natalie Portman being a character in star wars is the reason i kept watching some of her movies. She has the talent, she has the heart, and she has the love of fans. She is always a piece of our lives.
Wow! Just listen to the difference between her the actors of today. She hadn’t seen a single one of the Star Wars movies and not a single one of us lifelong Star Wars fans gives a single care. We love her anyway. It’s amazing how much being a humble person who gives those the same respect they expect in return makes a difference.!
The people who need to apologise are the ones in Disney, and Kathleen Kennedy is among the first ones who should do so. The actors have little to none to discuss, even Mark Hamill could not do anything about how Luke Skywalker, the other characters and even the whole lore potentials have been squandered
I think Padme is pretty universally loved by fans. Even OT people who aren't as big of fans of the prequels generally think "yeah that's a good character". She delivers one of the most iconic lines, that people are *still* quoting: "so this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause".
I really wish the current crew making Star Wars movies took a page out of this ladies book. She’s so humble, she respects the story and she doesn’t attack the fans.
Yes because the fans are so amazing and don’t attack the actors and directors when a tv show or movie isn’t exactly what they want. So yeah let’s respect the fans that bullied a child into mental health issues and made an adult want to kill himself because of the stuff they were saying about the actors because they didn’t like George’s characters. Mind you George didn’t get any of the hate just the actors. Star Wars fans are the most spoiled toxic fans ever.
@todor7906Are you mentally ill or just fucking retarded? First of all fuck Amanda and to your question without a doubt Natalie can do both with all the respect she deserve, now about the garlic/onion they eat it just because they like it, when they are not already in a relationship and ate garlic like a lot that's a redflag and she wants you to get the fuck out xD
@todor7906you Need help dude. Urgent help. Such thought are not normal. And is not normal either to ask random dudes on the Internet what they thinking about it.
I felt bad she wanted to apologize when I remember people adored her casting. She was warm and kind throughout and beautiful that most star wars fans were in awe of her.
Been scrolling through the comments looking for a comment like this. Everyone talking about Natalie but noone mentions this guy's incredible voice. 😂Know his name?

She just seems so sweet and naturally beautiful, unlike most celebrities these days. I mean, I really don't know much about her, but she gives off vibes most celebrity interviews haven't lately.
Tbf these interviews r from quite a while ago. Back before things got crazy. But yes, she did seem very sweet. I loved how soft spoken she was. Very endearing.
This is the attitude of someone respectful and humble. She had the intelligence to understand she knew nothing about the project and also the way to put the fans forward and create art for the audience, not the paycheck. A true mark of a professional.
The guy who played Stannis in GoT had zero idea what was happening but absolutely killed it, being a professional plus good writing is all that is required
I liked the prequels and have them in DVD. Natalie is both beautiful and intelligent and had absolutely nothing to apologize for. She was the big reason why I watched all of them twice in the theaters.👍🏾

Indeed. Her acting in Leon the Professional was incredible! She was only 12! A star was born. No wonder George, or whoever the casting director was, gave her Padme’s role! She was perfect. She had just the right amount of Princess Leia in her. Not afraid to join in on the battle.

I'm a Star wars fan and also a star trekkie. I grew up with both of these and I love them so much. So I forgive you Natalie Portman and I'm so glad that you took the part to be a part of the STAR WARS franchise.
The fact that she can take that and still respect them. Thats only some fans the majority just want a good actor that will put their heart in it. She clearly has a great heart and cared for her roll, thats all you can ask for.

Ehhhhhhhh that's going a bit too far. The last truly "great" Star Wars movie was Empire Strikes Back. The only thing Return of the Jedi has going for it was the Battle of Endor. Now if we're saying GOOD Star Wars movies, you have to include Rogue One into the conversation. How it compares with Return of the Jedi is up for debate, but it is better than any of the prequels... especially Attack of the Clones.
Natalie Portman is modeling the proper way to deal with criticism from the fan base. The fans don’t like that she lacked knowledge of the source material. But instead of challenging the fans, or arguing with them, she accepts the criticism. She acknowledges her lack of knowledge as a shortcoming. Then she approaches the source material with respect, and explains how she has come to love it. She also addresses the fan base with respect. How is it possible to hear a response like that without loving it? How can any fan dislike an actor who is approaching a role with this much humility? Way to go, Natalie Portman!
@@Max_Griswald yes but it should not function as a blocker for good to excellent actors. An excellent actor will play the character flawlessly with proper directions.
Directors are more important for the broad idea of the movie. The actor/actress should have an idea about lore to better the character though. Look at Sam Witwer. He cleaned up the rough edges for Starkiller (the meditation was genius) and was fantastic with doing Maul's voice acting. I'm not super into DC but Henry Cavill did a great job with Superman even if his director wasn't too keen on getting the character right. It's not necessary for an actor to know the lore but it helps for existing characters and storylines.
Ms. Portman took the job and dove head-first into what must have been an incredible amount of work to catch up on the story. I know a lot of fans criticize those films but she and the other people involved seem to be the last of Hollywood-with some exceptions, of course-to have truly respected the Star Wars community. I consider her a blessing to the franchise and film in general.
The prequels aren’t bad. Are there flaws with them. Yes and Anomaly Inc acknowledged where the prequels could’ve been better while also acknowledged the good in them and did a great job debunking bad arguments about the prequels in his series “Revenge of the Prequels.”
George Lucas's Star Wars prequel trilogy is a pure masterpiece, a wonderful, magnificent, exciting, significant, and extremely rich work that has greatly contributed to the story, universe, characters, lore, and mythology of Star Wars. The spotlight on the Sith and their philosophy strengthened the dark side of the Force, adding depth and complexity to the saga. The political aspect of the prequel adds a new dimension to the Star Wars universe, with Palpatine's machinations in the Galactic Senate and growing tensions between planetary systems, creating a richer context for the later events of the Original Trilogy, the rise of the Empire, the fall of the Republic, the extinction of the Jedi, and Anakin Skywalker's tragic story. The expansion of the universe is also great. New planets, races, creatures, peoples, and cultures are introduced, contributing to creating a larger and more diverse world. The prequel also enriches the Star Wars lore with new charismatic and endearing characters, unforgettable music, "Duel of the Fates," "Across the Stars," "Battle of the Heroes," a super rich, exciting, and comprehensive lore, and a talented cast of actors, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Liam Neeson. Natalie Portman is superb, magnificent, sweet, sensual, and charismatic, giving her character Padmé Amidala queen and senator of Naboo an exemplary strength, determination, and courage. She's perfect, she's iconic. Her evolution from a queen to a senator, into a badass, elegant, and determined woman, is a central characteristic of the trilogy. Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson bring memorable class and presence to the screen. Their dynamic as Jedi Masters is palpable, and they convey a wisdom and determination that anchor the story in the Jedi legacy. The prequel was the rejuvenation of the Star Wars saga, bringing real dramatic scope, real political context, stakes, new superb and iconic characters, iconic action scenes, a much richer universe, a more developed, more diverse universe, and a much more extensive universe. Natalie Portman for Star Wars: no background knowledge but willing to do the research. Dakota Johnson for Madame Web: I really just DGAF about Spider-Man and never will. Just pay me so I can get this hell over and done with.
you honestly can't be serious with that comment...Dakota Johnson was much better than Tobey and Tom Holland, but no where close to Neil Patrick Harris in 2003 Spider-Man
Queen Amidala does not need to apologize for anything. As a Star Wars fan I don’t care if she didn’t know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. So what who cares Star Wars isn’t for everybody
I was too young to be a part of any outrage for casting decisions in movies at the time of Phantom Menace but, looking back, I still can't imagine people being upset about Natalie Portman as Padme! It'd be like people getting upset at Emma Watson for getting the part of Hermione in Sorcerer's Stone! 😂 But the respect and love for Star Wars from her still is appreciated these days, I'm sure.
I don't see why she's apologizing for not knowing a franchise, the people who should apologize are those who know but don't care about what they do to it. Natalie Portman did great in those movies.

Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader is a superb, memorable, breathtaking scene. The connection with the original trilogy is very well done. Anakin's internal conflict between his loyalty to the Jedi Order and his desire to save those he loves makes his story deep and tragic. The prequel trilogy also brought invaluable richness to the Star Wars universe, with a detailed look at the Jedi Order, Padawan training, Sith, combat mastery, and Jedi teachings. Iconic locations such as Kamino, Geonosis, Utapau, Felucia, and Mustafar provide visually captivating backdrops for action scenes, development, and key plot moments. The lightsaber duels between iconic characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, and Yoda are executed with exceptional choreography, adding a visceral dimension to the story. Additionally, Christopher Lee's presence as Count Dooku adds a touch of class, elegance, and charisma, amplified by his Shakespearean speech. The prequel was the rejuvenation of the Star Wars saga, bringing real dramatic scope, real political context, stakes, new superb and iconic characters, iconic action scenes, a much richer universe, a more developed, more diverse universe, and a much more extensive universe. She was great in all 3 movies. She brought a character to life that previously was only referenced and she did a great job
I can’t be the only one, but I feel as though she has an amazingly beautiful voice. I could hear her read from my grocery list, and it would still sound like the most beautiful poetry ever written.
She’s so beautiful she’s forgiven, she’s also not rude and insulting the fans. She has class
Natalie has a special beauty to her. Shes more my age. I grew up with her ever since Leon The Professional. In middle school we all knew who she was & thought that move was cool.
Indeed. Her acting in Leon the Professional was incredible! She was only 12! A star was born. No wonder George, or whoever the casting director was, gave her Padme’s role! She was perfect. She had just the right amount of Princess Leia in her. Not afraid to join in on the battle.
BACK OFF! I seen 'er firsT.

She draws attention to something I don’t focus on enough. This happened in our universe, in a different galaxy, and it was a long time ago.
She's one of the better things about the prequels, so no apology required 😂❤

It doesn’t matter if the actor knows the source material or not. What matters is if the director and managers know the source material…
It helps if the actors know the source material, but producers and directors are much more important in needing to be fans of the source.
@@Max_Griswald yes but it should not function as a blocker for good to excellent actors. An excellent actor will play the character flawlessly with proper directions.
What matters is the level of midichlorians in your blood
Directors are more important for the broad idea of the movie. The actor/actress should have an idea about lore to better the character though.
Look at Sam Witwer. He cleaned up the rough edges for Starkiller (the meditation was genius) and was fantastic with doing Maul's voice acting. I'm not super into DC but Henry Cavill did a great job with Superman even if his director wasn't too keen on getting the character right.
It's not necessary for an actor to know the lore but it helps for existing characters and storylines.
She's gorgeous
I just want to give her a hug, she had nothing to apologize for, I was one of those prequel kids growing up.

I for one never thought Natalie Portman was at all to blame for the problems with the Prequels.
The prequels aren’t bad. Are there flaws with them. Yes and Anomaly Inc acknowledged where the prequels could’ve been better while also acknowledged the good in them and did a great job debunking bad arguments about the prequels in his series “Revenge of the Prequels.”

Star Wars isn't just about space battles during the war between good and evil, before that there was a political background that led to the events of the original trilogy, including Palpatine's rise, political machinations, the creation of the Empire, the fall of the Republic, the Clone Wars, the fall of the Jedi Order and the great tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, a truly shakespearean tragedy, a great greek tragedy with mythological influences.

His manipulation to form a massive clone army and eradicate the Jedi with Order 66 is a central element of the story, explaining how the Galactic Empire took shape following the fall of the Republic and how Anakin fell to the dark side to become Darth Vader, a fallen hero who just wanted to save those he loved. Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader is a superb, memorable, breathtaking scene. The connection with the original trilogy is very well done. Anakin's internal conflict between his loyalty to the Jedi Order and his desire to save those he loves makes his story deep and tragic. His journey to the dark side, with key moments such as his confrontation with Count Dooku and his heartbreaking final duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. The prequel trilogy also brought invaluable richness to the Star Wars universe, with a detailed look at the Jedi Order, Padawan training, Sith, combat mastery, and Jedi teachings. Iconic locations such as Kamino, Geonosis, Utapau, Felucia, and Mustafar provide visually captivating backdrops for action scenes, development, and key plot moments. Beloved and iconic characters, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, General Grievous, Jango Fett, Watto, Sebulba. The action scenes and lightsaber battles are among the most memorable in the saga. Epic battles such as the Battle of Geonosis, the podrace on Tatooine, the Battle of Naboo, and the battle above Coruscant are very memorable and iconic of the saga. The lightsaber duels between iconic characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, and Yoda are executed with exceptional choreography, adding a visceral dimension to the story. It expanded the lore of the saga, and complements the original trilogy being inseparable from it. The Star Wars prequel is a masterpiece, and the Star Wars trilogy is a masterpiece and together form an incredible whole, a single great story of exceptional galactic epic. The story of Anakin Skywalker, from his Jedi training to his fall to the dark side of the Force to his redemption as a Jedi by saving his son, destroying the Sith, and restoring balance to the Force. The story of the Galactic Empire, once a democratic Republic, and the story of Palpatine, his evolution from senator to chancellor to becoming the emperor of the galaxy, his manipulations to establish his authority in the senate, to create his own Galactic Empire, to overthrow the Jedi Order, and to keep Anakin with him as an apprentice. and the technological advancement towards digital, modern technologies, computer editing, special effects, to create new worlds, new extraordinary and extraordinary world-building, new peoples and to build the extraordinary story of the Star Wars prequel, a true expanded, gigantic, extremely rich universe, with infinite possibilities, exploring new planets, new peoples, new civilizations, new technologies, new worlds, just like Avatar.
"You are softer than sand, milady..."
She rocked entire series. Love her
Also her smile is always stunning
Yes She is ❤ I love her ❤
She has nothing to apologize about. She did the most amazing job. Look at the female now at Disney SWars
Yes
Shes so likeable. I miss when actors were like this. She's so humble and intelligent, perfectly cast person for that role.
👸🏻♥️💥🎉🔥
From "I apologize with great respect" to "She's a powerful leada! Yasss! Yasss!" How times have changed.
Natalie Portman for Star Wars: no background knowledge but willing to do the research.
Dakota Johnson for Madame Web: I really just DGAF about Spider-Man and never will. Just pay me so I can get this hell over and done with.
you honestly can't be serious with that comment...Dakota Johnson was much better than Tobey and Tom Holland, but no where close to Neil Patrick Harris in 2003 Spider-Man
Isnt that a completely different movie and background tho, why make the comparison at all
Queen Amidala does not need to apologize for anything. As a Star Wars fan I don’t care if she didn’t know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. So what who cares Star Wars isn’t for everybody
Different times, nowadays everyone claims to be a Star wars fan
@@ludomirsteinbruck9376 Yeah but I am a Star Wars fan
Oh my gosh, she is even more beautiful now that's she's older. I absolutely love Natalie Portman. ❤❤❤
One of the most underrated characters in the entire franchise. Natalie Portman nailed this performance.

But the respect and love for Star Wars from her still is appreciated these days, I'm sure.
I never disliked her in SW. She was great in it, her performance and her looks were fantastic. Especially the looks.
🔥🥰🌟🩷👸🏻💪⚡🎉💥👍
She doesn’t need to apologize; whomever made Episode 7 and everything after that needs to apologize!
Natalie Portman. She’s so sweet.😍
You judge actresses for the characters they portrayed? What a FAIL!
@@JohnSmith-mf3dh And you think I’m saying that for that reason? What a HUMILIATION!
Portman is far far far away from being 'sweet'
I don't see why she's apologizing for not knowing a franchise, the people who should apologize are those who know but don't care about what they do to it.
Natalie Portman did great in those movies.
She's so humble and respectful.
she is very pretty but the prettiest thing about her is her voice
True
I still love Natalie Portman, been in love with her since I was 13 when episode 1 dropped
