The dog is smart! The fish were stuffed with onions. Onions, garlic, ramps, etc can/will make a dog sick. It destroys their red blood cells. There were only small amounts in the fish and it was the meat that he was trying to feed the dog. However the toxins are cumulative, so it might only take a small amount. I just went through this with my chocolate lab. She loves to play ball. being very unlike her while I wasn’t home, she grabbed an onion off the counter and played ball with it. Four days later I thought she was going to die.
This makes me smile... We took my 6 yo grandson boating last weekend and while we were in the cove swimming I made him a fishing pole like this and he was thrilled. Grandma's cool ya know.
Omg yes! Teach them to fish while they're still young, and they will never do drugs, they will spend their money on fishing rods, reels, and all that good stuff.
depression Those are edible, right? People put them in gumbo, I think. I would just be following this guy around going, "Can I eat that? How 'bout that? Will that kill me?" His dog has better survival skills than I do. 🙄
In '85 my grampa took me fishing for the first time that I recall. We got up before dawn, dug worms, walked through a little wood maybe a mile to a 'friends' pond, he showed me how to choose a stick, he had line and some hooks, he showed me how to make a simple pole... I even found a red and white bobber floating in the reeds which he helped me draw out and attach to my rig. One of my only memories of him but dang if it's not a good one! Thxs for the video, it reminded me of him.

Mr. Hansler, I’m aware that I am one of many folks writing comments on your videos. I just want you to know this is the first time time I’ve ever commented on TH-cam (or any other social media place). I work in Austin in the tech industry. I own 34 acres 40 miles east of Austin and have lots of rattlesnakes. I was raised on a ranch of 1300 acres in north Texas that was started by my great grandfather. I’ve been taught a lot about country living by my father and his father. Here's one for folks who've never made cordage (string, line, rope, etc): practice the technique with unwaxed dental floss. It's cheap, easily available and works really well. You'll astound yourself, and you'll be learning an ancient survival skill that most of the people in the world no longer know. Great video!

I gotta say, I absolutely love this dude and this channel. I was a vegetarian for 12 years for many reasons, one main reason being that I live in a place where I didn't feel I had to eat animals to survive, and I wanted to give it a try to see what the other side was like. But I always maintained the attitude that there is no issue in eating animals provided one is respectful and humane such as Bob when hunting for food. Even my current vegetarian friends love this channel and hope this attitude and way of life eventually becomes the norm. Great channel and content Bob! :)

You are by far the coolest survivalist I have ever seen. First time I have ever come across your channel. You are informative and straight forward. I definitely will be watching more of your videos.
Is this how a raw Texan speaks? Theres something stylish about it and more importantly, something rustic and natural, a natural thing that a person from anywhere in the world can identify with. I mean, in my town, old tough men speaks jus like this, and they know stuff just like this. My salutes. You guys are the real natural human thing, and maybe thats why all of them other ones from other countries relate to u and speak the same style no matter what the language is (i mean only the raw natural guys). Theres just something universally common about you rare lot around the world. The things u endure, the things you eat, the way you carry on unlike some city folks who wud just say yuk, freak out , run and eventually die prematurely. Once again, respect to you. Thanks for showing us a glimpse :)
As a Texan, old enough to remember when almost all boys were in the Boy Scouts and such skills were considered essential training (although not necessarily all scout troops teach or taught how to harvest and prepare cactus), I appreciate very much what Bob is sharing. Prior to WWII, 95% of Americans lived in rural settings and were likely to have a good grasp of the things Bob shared. Today, sadly, upwards of 99% of Americans live in cities, crammed together like cattle (or sheep) in slaughter pens. These skills (and the ability to look a snake in the eyes and not flinch as he steals your fish) are what are going to ensure that "We the People" survive when the SHTF. God Bless Bob.
Loved the video. Great tutorial video. I could almost taste the smoke on those fish. I've never had a opportunity to eat the cactus 🌵 fruit but I sure would like to try it. I would have definitely eaten the crawfish.
My wife goes nuts over how probably prepared I am I was a boy scout and it taught me a lot. You are the extension of that. Thanks again for another great lesson to put in my toolbox!
I just watched your bio about the health issues . I send my love and prayers to you and your family . I hope you have had some success with your sight returning . You make wonderful videos , I can feel the love of your family right through the video . God bless .❤️😎
Fish cabobs looks great.. I wish I had your survival skill set and knowledge.. I'm not very good at the use of plants foraging and making tools out of them.. But still learning.. Great video...
"Better than Okra!" That's a bold ass statement right there, especially in Texas, as we tend to love our okra. That must be some good Tuna. I've never had it green before. I've also never seen fish processed that way. Have to try that sometime. Great video, I've watched it twice, once with my wife.
Greetings from the UK! What an excellent video, really enjoyed it. Just one thing , a small float or bobber might have helped if it had been a long session with few fish. There is an old method of bite indication which used a feather quill attached at both ends but with no weight so it lay flat on the water. When a fish took the bait, it either pulled the quill straight under or it rose upright briefly and then sank giving a very good indication, perfect for a slack line. I’ve subscribed now so look forward to your next adventure.
Bob Hansler : I’m binge-watching your latest videos, asking myself, “How can I find great property like his!?” I’m also laughing and smiling while learning...Best Combo Ever. You and Les Stroud are now my go-to’s for survival teaching/living. I truly appreciate your content and production value(s). God Bless Sir. CJH
We will keep these coming, hopefully health willing for many many more years to come. Have so much more to do and show... and it would not be possible without help from supporters such as yourself. Huge compliment getting paired up with Les. Given a successful surgery in July, get ready to see some amazing stuff. Until Next Time, Bob Hansler
What a great American - a full exposé in this rarefied atmosphere of sharing these secrets of Texas Bush Skills. Bravo 100 times over... What an artist!!!
Extremely different from what I have here in northeast Oklahoma and it's only a 4 hour drive to Texas from here, maybe less. But within Texas: in the northeast is more heavily wooded and hilly with lots of streams and small bodies of water in the western central area you are getting into semi-arid, the trees are more like bushes and few sources of water except shortly after rain Those are the only two areas of Texas I can speak intelligently about as I haven't spent much time in any other areas. Having said that, Oklahoma is somewhat the same. As you move from east to west, the terrain changes as does the climate (somewhat) along the same lines. Been wondering for some time about the edible things I know about in northeast Oklahoma, as in how wide spread is/are lamb's quarter? Sand plum trees? Blackberries? Mulberries? Polk? Cattails? Did learn a couple of things from the video, though. Briar shoots are edible. Making string/line/twine from yucca leaves. I knew about prickly pear 'apples' but had never heard when is best to harvest them. Thanks for a great video!
This man has been in the shit . . . that kind of calm comes from facing death head on. Very good video, way better than any I've seen so far. Thank you for a very relaxing, calming, and inspiring video. You're an amazing teacher.
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks so much for your sage words at the end. This is great information to know if you find yourself in a bad situation, and it can keep you alive if things go right. If you take off into remote areas with no gear, and no knowledge of your surroundings, planning on going full Davie Crockett, you just might become food for something else. Thank you for pointing that out. No enough folks who make these videos do that.
Now this is a great example of a man who don't follow the same trail as others.. And I would love to meet him and his Dog and enjoy the outdoors like I used to..Keep upright and Kicken ...
Very good Bob👍 Made a hook when I was a teenager from a fish y bone and worked very well. Used to stuff trout with wild onions, watercress and nettle. I like charred prickly pads as well as the fruit. Can't wait to see you and Wooded Beardsman adventure. Have a great day
Good informative video. I loved how you did the reality check at the end and used the scout motto be prepared. That can keep someone from being overconfident and putting themselves in a bad survival situation.
Beautiful heeler you've got. It's a terrific breed, I've got my third one now. They're some of the smartest and most loyal dog breeds out there, and they're especially good for being sole companions to a single person and they're terrific outdoors, although I've found with time and training they make a great family dog too. They're just so damn intelligent, fun, and they're up for anything if they're bonded to you.
I tried it in our school camping i am the one in our class that watch this so i tried it and it worked! They are amazed and i show them your channel and they loved it btw love your vids
Loved this video, so relaxing to watch while I work on my artwork. I love learning skills like these. But my favorite parts are: Huck enjoying the water ("Huck, get out of the water!") Huck barking at whatever. Huck turning his head uninterested from the tasty fish (picky eater Huck is!). Thanks for sharing all this info!

Bob, this is a really well-prepared and thought out video. Thanks for the practical, non-hyped approach!
I learned the 2 piece twist from this one. bloody marvelous skill. thanks Bob!
The wat you handled that snake was just amazing.👌👌
1:40 when you speak under your breath to your mom
Oh
oh.
Lol
Oh ok
obviously white people will call child services
Woah. Half an hour passed?
your so right i thought i was watching a 10 minute video lmao
Ivorymagnus wait really?!?
Ikr
So easy to get lost in his videos.
Sup my oh yeah yeah brother
Loved the video.
Great tutorial video.
I could almost taste the smoke on those fish. I've never had a opportunity to eat the cactus 🌵 fruit but I sure would like to try it.
I would have definitely eaten the crawfish.
Wow an actual fishing for survival video, unlike the other bs survival fishing from home vids other TH-camrs make 😂
Surviving? He's just hunting, he doesn't have to
@Kota Laflin that's right
i surely doubt survival fishing would be commercially profitable u moron
Too true man
You will Figure it out He’s not trying to make profit, wtf. He’s trying to survive.
Aw that dog's the sweetest :D
My wife goes nuts over how probably prepared I am I was a boy scout and it taught me a lot. You are the extension of that. Thanks again for another great lesson to put in my toolbox!
I just watched your bio about the health issues . I send my love and prayers to you and your family . I hope you have had some success with your sight returning . You make wonderful videos , I can feel the love of your family right through the video . God bless .❤️😎
Just stumbled on to this video. Great video well done, you are a TV show waiting to happen if it hasn't. You are the real survivorman.
Fish cabobs looks great.. I wish I had your survival skill set and knowledge.. I'm not very good at the use of plants foraging and making tools out of them.. But still learning.. Great video...
Just kind of randomly stumbled across this video and I'm glad that I did. Thanks for sharing!
Very nice. A little outdoor adventure. Congrats! 👍😊
"Better than Okra!" That's a bold ass statement right there, especially in Texas, as we tend to love our okra. That must be some good Tuna. I've never had it green before. I've also never seen fish processed that way. Have to try that sometime. Great video, I've watched it twice, once with my wife.
Bob, You are simply the best outdoorsman/survivalist on all of these UT channels. Hope you can keep up the good sharing.
Happily supporting via Patreon (as of today). Keep healing and making videos as much as you wish Sir!

Bob Hansler : I’m binge-watching your latest videos, asking myself, “How can I find great property like his!?”
I’m also laughing and smiling while learning...Best Combo Ever.
You and Les Stroud are now my go-to’s for survival teaching/living.
I truly appreciate your content and production value(s).
God Bless Sir.

We will keep these coming, hopefully health willing for many many more years to come. Have so much more to do and show... and it would not be possible without help from supporters such as yourself.
Huge compliment getting paired up with Les. Given a successful surgery in July, get ready to see some amazing stuff.
Until Next Time,
Bob Hansler

Well said Sir.
You have MANY great years ahead of you and plenty of time to share your knowledge with the world.
God Bless!
Jus as natural as u can get,it gets no more natural, awesomeness
What a great American - a full exposé in this rarefied atmosphere of sharing these secrets of Texas Bush Skills. Bravo 100 times over... What an artist!!!
Thanks for the video.
It was great to see the natural materials of Texas. A whole different climate than the Northern Pacific rain forests.
Extremely different from what I have here in northeast Oklahoma and it's only a 4 hour drive to Texas from here, maybe less.
But within Texas:
in the northeast is more heavily wooded and hilly with lots of streams and small bodies of water
in the western central area you are getting into semi-arid, the trees are more like bushes and few sources of water except shortly after rain
Those are the only two areas of Texas I can speak intelligently about as I haven't spent much time in any other areas.
Why do i watch these videos before lunch? Those fish are making me hungry
Kyle Wilshusen right lol! it ALMOST makes me want to fetch my own food
Huck is just so chilled. The look he gives when he’s in the water is honestly priceless
Now this is a great example of a man who don't follow the same trail as others.. And I would love to meet him and his Dog and enjoy the outdoors like I used to..Keep upright and Kicken ...
Very good Bob👍
Made a hook when I was a teenager from a fish y bone and worked very well.
Used to stuff trout with wild onions, watercress and nettle. I like charred prickly pads as well as the fruit.
Can't wait to see you and Wooded Beardsman adventure. Have a great day
moral of the show: When travelling, if over a body or water, pack some fishing line, some hooks, save your life.
Also paracord! Stuff is incredibly versatile
FINALLY a good vid on making cordage, the same technique works using thin treebark...
He definitely knows what he is doing I wish I could be out there with him the things I can learn wow
This dude is really cool. I really like your fishing gear..
7:48 Something so comical about the dog just chilling in the water
Loooool
I tried it in our school camping i am the one in our class that watch this so i tried it and it worked! They are amazed and i show them your channel and they loved it btw love your vids
Loved this video, so relaxing to watch while I work on my artwork. I love learning skills like these.
But my favorite parts are:
Huck enjoying the water ("Huck, get out of the water!")
Huck barking at whatever.
Huck turning his head uninterested from the tasty fish (picky eater Huck is!).
Thanks for sharing all this info!
