It’s a headache. Only have a week with mines and my backup camera is not working at all. And somehow I’m getting no audio when I have the phone in “CarPlay” I gotta switch it to “my Chevrolet “ in order to listen to music. And tech support takes there sweet time to reply back. @REDDELECTRIC
So, out of curiosity, what STOPS working with this installed? I’m seriously considering getting one after watching your video (love all your vids, by the way - 2016 Silverado 2500 Midnight Edition here). But, I like all my factory stuff to work.
- Does the gauge cluster center screen still reflect current radio station, presets, stuff like that?
- Factory mic?
- Factory USB ports work?
- I saw that the steering wheel control can be made to work… any issues there?

@@garyschenck6271 I got it installed and it looks great. It really blends in well and looks OEM. Everything was plug and play and I didn't have to cut any wires. The one thing I didn't realize fully before ordering is that it's essentially an Android tablet with highly customized apps on it. There is a "Console" app that exactly mimics the old screen with the options on it. This is the app you can use most of the time to listen to the radio, adjust menu options, etc.. This works exactly like the original unit and all functions work perfectly. All my steering wheel controls worked out of the box and I didn't have to use the extra cable like matt ross showed. One thing I was surprised at is my truck came with navigation but if you use google maps it doesn't leverage the truck's GPS antenna. they provide an external GPS antenna you have to connect and mount. not a big deal though. Another thing is that you will need an internet connection to pretty much use anything other than the console app. For example, Google Maps (which is amazing on a 14" screen) will not get any map data like streets and street names without the internet. It comes with a dongle you can attach to the back that accepts a SIM card. Or I just bought a Verizon jetpack for $20 a month as I will use it in other places as well. It's really cool and I love it. Is it worth the $1200 price tag? I'm a bit on the fence on that one... I mean I use google maps, and Amazon Music but I'm not sure what else I would use on it. You can install any app from the play store but I'm not going to use it for games at all. You can install Netflix but you're not going to watch it while your driving.
I would also like to say that because its highly customized, there are a few things that were buggy. It came with some instruction sheets with pictures but I found myself not understanding what or why some components were used. There were a few things that were not working right but the customer service is pretty responsive. I have one outstanding issue they are trying to debug where every time I leave the "console" app and go back, it changes the band like from FM to AM and I have to set it back to the station.
@KC2ATE Okay, great. I want to get one just like this!! I have an Android phone well, a galaxy, so it shouldn't be buggy if it's an android tablet but hey. When you say won't work while driving in Navigation? Is that from the app it's self? I have navigation in mine but never used it. Think it doesn't work cause i don't have it set up. Never used it cause I use my phones maps but what would i have to install for my truck to have it on the newer radio screen?

Installed it last night and I’m loving it so far. I ordered new clips off of Amazon because mine don’t want to clip in and hold. I put some flock on them till the new ones come in. I do need to do the camera upgrade asap lol.

bought one. Installed in less than 2 hours. Works great. My only hangup is that it cannot bluetooth to both the vehicle and the android device at the same time

How are the little details on this thing like build quality, color match to factory, button feel and the matching of the color of the button illumination/lights? Can you dim the buttons at night using the factory dimmer next to the headlights switch on this unit as well?
Hi Matt, appreciate all the guidance and the reviews on these units, I think my issue with the 14.4 inch unit on my 2018 Silverado may be the steering wheel controls, I see where you added those when you upgraded from the 12 inch model. Did you run into any difficulties getting the harness connected? I am finding it extremely difficult to unplug and connect in the steering wheel control harness. Also, in reading on other sites I see where there is some concern around accidentally discharging the driver side airbag, is that a concern or are other confusing what that harness actually connects to?
Yes, that harness was super tight all around. No issues with my airbag, I didn't hear of that.

Is there any latency when skipping through songs? That’s the only thing I don’t like about my linkswell. A bit of a delay when skipping thorough songs on CarPlay.
A little delay, yes, but nothing that seems abnormal or bothers me.
Looks pretty nice. Not horribly expensive either. Might need one for my canyon.
Has a ton of features for the price, plus how simple it is to install.
Mine just came in. Took about 12 days from order date if anyone is wondering how long it takes to arrive. Wish me luck. Looking into getting the SIM card to use XM radio
Hope the install goes smoothly like mine! Seems like a few are having issues. Mine's been rock solid without issues. Make sure to go to console in the new unit and select aux and make sure the aux cord is plugged in.

Sounds like installation issues, but I don't work for AUcar so I'm not sure. I'm no pro lol.

Not a clue, I haven't seen them. It does seem like a lot of them are the same though..

This is great. The GM infotainment systems severely lacked until 2018. Both fully loaded 07 & 2014 Suburbans felt as they were stuck in the early 2000s.
I looked it up on their site and it didnt list all the features on my Suburban as compatible. Definitely want to upgrade the rear camera as well. Emailing them tomorrow morning. I like the look of the AuCar more than the Phoenix set up

I didn't have an issue with that or change settings for the sensors.
Recently installed the same in my 2016 High Country. Love it! Do you happen to know how to change the function on the 2 control knobs on the front? I can't find anything in settings.
I actually haven't messed with that, I like the current settings.

The device name is GT6-CAR and the firmware is GT6-NA-Q6U.00.108.20230401.145022. The MCU version is RL9ac_KWY. It is manufactured by Viknav in China, like most of these radios.
Question on this device. Does it have a slot for a general sim card? I'm wondering if I could just get a extra like on my phone bill for like a "Tablet" and just use it for this.

It's pretty straight forward to find them. Google search will show you the connector.
Matt, got mine installed and happy with it so far. Only issue is the GPS doesn’t work at all. Where did you mount your GPS unit? In settings I have 0 satellites available always.
I never installed the GPS because I use my phone
My question is, how hard would it be to hook up a sub to this radio? Considering, the big three make it hard to do so with their infotainment center

I just installed mine and it works great. Just one issue. How do you get an aftermarket front camera to work? The rear stock camera works fine.

Does the voice command button on the steering wheel work with the new radio, or can it be made to work with it? If not, how do you activate voice commands now?
Did you have any issues with the dummy plug causing a lot of frequency sound? Mine is bad at louder volumes to the point it’s an annoying hum and climbs with rpms any fix?

Can you PLEASE make a video on how you centered the factory radio screen. The company I bought it from sent me your video. I read through the comments and went into the settings and I only see GM Screen parameters. It moves the screen further to the right. Need help

My Duramax Denali has the factory overhead rear entertainment with DVD player in dash. With this unit, does it require a relocation for the DVD player?

Did this unit come with RCAs? I went and installed a full stereo using audio control amps. But when it came down to it, the factory radio is killing me! I currently have a loop back harness on the speakers to use the amps, but wanted to go to RCAs and have some deck clean up the audio. I was looking at Stinger HEIGH10, but something doesnt feel right.
There are a bunch of connectors back there, though I don't know all of them exactly. I'd check the website to see if it lists them.
Quick question will this unit fit on a 2015 silverado 1500? Specifically mine has only 2 buttons on the heated seats whereas I see you got 3 buttons.

How did you get the wallpaper to change? I've tried to change mine and it goes to live wallpaper setting But I don't know how to access that folder to put anything in it.
That is badass! I have a 2017 and even though just a LT, it has a pretty amazing factory head unit. Apple , and Android plus it has heated seats and they're cloth which I never knew was a thing, thought all heated seats were leather. However that looks pretty awesome! I have a 2015 Cadillac ATS premium performance with the the optional premium Bose system and I think my factory system in my Silverado sounds better! Lol Your Phoenix upgrade compares to the giant Ram truck screen! If my Chevy ever fails I'm definitely going this route

Did you have to upgrade the backup camera to keep the guide lines and do they turn with the steering wheel? Also, when you shift into drive, does the camera stay on for a while like the old factory or does it immediately cut off and go to the radio mode? Thanks in advance..
It all works like factory.
I like the delay in reverse cam, so when I'm pulling off, i can see if I detached from the trailer good lol.
Matt, I bought one of these units because I seen your video reviews. Unfortunately My expirence was not good like many other reviews i had seen before your review. The unit I received had poor sound quality. The sound distorted at about 1/2 volume and up no matter how much I adjusted the settings. There was also a crackling sound coming for the speakers even when there wasn't anything playing. It truly is a great concept and it looks cool, I just could not live with the sound quality. I know, "different strokes for differnet folks". Just my 2 cents. I love your videos and will continue to watch. Keep them coming.

I just thought of one more question. I bought the aftermarket camera and I am going to hook it up probably sometime tomorrow so hopefully you could give me an answer soon, where did you run the cable into the cab? Did you go to the firewall and drill a hole or how did you get in?
Which aftermarket camera? The same one I got? It uses the stock wiring up to the glovebox.
@@matt13ross apparently not the same one you got this one I purchased from the same people I purchased the stereo from but send me the link to the one you purchased I would rather go with that did you have to splice the wires and did you have to drill a bigger hole or did it go into the same hole at the bezel?
No splicing no drilling. I don’t remember which one exactly but it’s linked in the video description
Are you still using the upgrade wiring harness from the old unit on this one?
The only part I’m still using is the upgraded camera harness.
Does the signal lights make an obnoxiously loud sound when you signal? I had a similar set up in one of my old farm trucks with the speaker you had to plug in and can’t stand the sound
No it doesn't.
Did you have to bypass your Bose system for this or does it work out of the box with Bose system?
Works with bose out of the box.
How does the Google maps look? Also do you have any cons about it vs stock?
Maps can fill out the whole screen, or split it up in with Carplay. No cons unless you really loved the stock climate control buttons.
Can you make a video with the factory settings you make to center the original radio console?
Someone really needs to come with a unit for the newer generation Silverado
I don't think that will happen. Too much tech in the newer trucks.
How are you liking this head unit almost 6 months later? I've wanted to change out my stock one in my 18' sierra but I did something similar to this in a Tahoe I had and it was obviously from China and over time it became really slow and pretty much unusable. Might pull the trigger on this if its as good as it looks and stays that way!

Anyway, Ive had my eye on the phoenix for almost 2 years now and haven't been able to pull the trigger because of the bad reveiws. Right now the Phoenix is on sale for $530. Now that its been almost a year, whats your thoughts on the Aucar, is the Aucar worth the 2x price tag?

I bought one after i saw your video following the link. Love it so far. took a while to get everything running. A few things i wish you could better explain. Backup camera works but doesnt work on the cam app. I noticed you had the same issue in the video but didnt show what you did to fix it. Also dont know what i should or shoudnt change in the settings menu
My camera works all the time. Even with the camera button.
Maybe it's a setting thing I'm missing. Can you tell me the codes to go to the menus. Maybe ill find something there

My 18 Denali hd Bose system sounds amazing for a stock system, with the factory Bose Sub, but the infotainment system blows. This is exactly what I was looking for. But man, what a project.

Any options for front cameras to this display or to the factory display so I can see my kids that might be playing in front of my truck? This truck sits up too high too see small children or cats and dogs or other obstacles that might be in your front pathway, I have the 2015 Silverado 2500HD LML Duramax LTZ Z71 same cab as yours just no sunroof. This video series has been really helpful in preparing for this upgrade. Got mine installed and mostly working (CarPlay audio quality was awful - like a pillow is over the speakers compared to Built-in sound sources - so i switch over to Bluetooth audio most of the time).
One question I haven’t seen elsewhere: i managed to get the OG touch screen centered in the Console app - but did you have to change any settings to get the OG touchscreen to respond to interactions? I can use the on-screen buttons (that mimic the old dash) to switch between radio modes, change temp settings, etc, but cannot open up the original settings menu/etc like you do at 10:22.
I’ll keep playing with Factory Settings to see what I can figure out, but thought I’d ask if you happened to remember! (Acknowledged: looks like this was damn near a year ago for you!)

Nice review. Do you have the factory Bose system? I have one of these and am having issues with the audio. They gave me a 3.5 mm plug to insert into my console aux port but it doesn't go anything.
Yup I have Bose. Put the aux cord in. Then set the console to aux.
Also mine wouldnt work unless i had the mychevy bluetooth on with the new radio bluetooth. They will both connect. That got me sound from bluetooth on my phone music. Try that. Then go to console and hit aux or media.
I just watched your other video on the 12" radio. Does this radio still have the HD radio capabilities? What if you don't have seat warmers, does it come with blanks for the seat warmer buttons? Does the HVAC start if you do a remote start?
Not.sure about HD. They come with blanks. HVAC works like factory.
I got this after your video. Only issues I am having. I have to go to “console” and press play for music to play on apple car play then switch back every time also how do I get videos on TH-cam or anything else to come out of the speakers?
Plug the aux cord into the center console (nothing else plugged into the cord). The go to console and select aux. then back to CarPlay etc. only have to do that once

I’ve been considering this for my 2017. Ever since i got the truck in December the factory screen has been glitchy and will change songs and hang up on my phone calls. Very annoying
This (so far) has been so worth it, makes the inside so much nicer.
You probably have looked at a lot, so any idea where I can find a compatible’14 all terrain front seat. Mine is worn and heated seat no longer works

Just purchased after watching your video, looks good only problem I'm having is getting the time to stay set. Once I set it its fine but when I turn the truck off and back on its back to an hour earlier than what it should be. Did you have this issue?
I never messed with the time on this unit since I always use Carplay. My old unit had that issue though (different brand).
Is there a fix for this? Ima order this unit maybe. Just seeing which one is good 12 or 14

I just installed this Unit from AuCar. At the moment im getting pure static from the front speakers. No rear speaker noise at all. Im using aux L/R cords for the rear pre amps. Steering Controls aren't working yet. The screen is off to right on the factory screen.
I have all factory speakers so I’m not sure about that. I go over the screen adjustment in the video. Did you install the steering harness?
Got the speakers working. My only issues now are that it play music only if it connects to Chevy MyLink 1st. So the phone has to connect to the screen and mylink at the same time. I have to Uninstaller and reinstall android auto for it to work. But there's no sound with it. My Spotify is playing and music is counting down...but no sound. Also the aux L and R red/white I thought were for pre amps. They must be be foelr something else. So im going today to get a line converter to hook the subwoofers.
Make sure to connect the bluetooth on the phone to the new head unit, not Mylink.

So I ordered mine from Aucar and I have the exact color of trim bezel arhat you have but that color wasn’t an option to pick on their web sight. With that being said I ordered it and obviously it’s a different color and I’m trying to figure out the paint code so I can paint match it to the factory bezel color do you have any thoughts on where I can get the color to match or how did you order your with the matched paint?
That’s just the option mine had. I’d suggest taking your stock trim to a paint store. They can get the exact color for you.
What car launcher and music player are you using?
Do all of the factory usb plugs work for the Apple car play or do you have to use a different plug they supply. I have a Denali and I have multiple usb ports. Dash and center console that I would hate to loose functionality.
Different USB plug for Carplay (or just use wireless)

I use them for a dash camera, powers on when truck starts and does not stay on when the truck is turned off.

Also, does it have LTE cell that you have to pay for or can you use a hotspot for its connecting to the internet?
Comes with a SIM card but I use hotspot from my phone

I have a 2018 Silverado LT with cloth seats. I was curious if you know if can update seats to heat/ac seats with center console? I’ve read so many say it can’t be done etc

For camera input? I just tried them all until I found the wright one.
How would we go about adding subs and amplifier. Is there additional hookups we could attach or it can’t be done?
I think it has aux out. Check their site. I’m planning on adding the OEM kicker sub.

Did you go into the settings menu? You need a code to get in, 7890.

Hold in on the open apps icon in the bottom right for split screen. Whatever app you want on the top should be open first then select the one you want on the bottom.
I got a 2014 v6 Silverado Texas edition and want to add a screen ( with apple play and the extras ) and a backup camera also . My truck didn’t come with a backup camera so are my only options those backup cameras that come with a backup plate ??? I would love to get the backup camera and even a 360 bird view camera if possible . What are my options price isn’t a problem
Idk about a 350 cam. But you could maybe? Install a factory tailgate camera.

Did the radio change effect any of the onstar features? My 2017 show speed limit and actual speed in the drivers info at the same time. If onstar is turned off this feature will go away. What did you do with the pheonix radio?
Probably lose onstar but I’m not positive.

Yes I have them but they don't work with the new radio. I'd imagine you could wire them to though.
In eq settings adjusting the gain and low high filters has no effect.how do you get them to adjust
