Boy the way you just flipped that first trap upside down and set it trigger side into the ground scared the heck out of me. I kept thinking it was gonna go off!
Great video, I have learned a ton from watching you. At 58 years old I just finished my first season. 10 beaver locally in SW Ontario. I had a nuisance job on a small residential cottage property where I set a single castor mound with a 330. I also put up a trail cam to watch the trap. I ended up with 4 beaver in the 330. One short video from the camera showed other beaver coming up to the caught beaver. I set a foothold on a drowning rod with a one way slider 6 inches away from the 330 where the beaver were exiting the water. I ended up with 2 on the slider setup. The last two caught were a double, one in each. Question I have for you is do you find beaver bitten all to hell in your sets? I have three that are not salable, two must have 40 bite holes each and one with three or four. I'll tan these myself. Are these chewed up beaver caused by territory dispute with home and transient beaver regardless of which is in the trap?
Do you have to put up small flags in the area to let others know that there are traps in the area? Like fishermen who wade fish along shorelines? Just curious. Your work fascinates me and now that I am retired, I'm planning on moving into less crowded digs with some small acreage and I get a lot of good education from you and others who have been so fortunate to have grown up and lived the lifestyle that you do. Thanks for all your videos and I look forward to the ones to come!!
330maniac Can you look at the video and verify something ?..... I think that big one was caught on the way away from the caster headed out to the river! That might be a bank den run it was in or it approached on land and slid in the water between the mound and the trap (witch would explain it being caught at an angle if it came in the water from the side) please let me know what you think
Wow after looking you are correct! I got that beaver coming out from the shore! But there was no bank den hole in the back there. I walked back and checked before I set. The shoreline was all collapsed. Did it walk past my set to dig back there or something?
Sweet thanks .... My theory is that it came up to its own spot just to the right of the set (when in the water looking at land) smelled the lure and walked over to the set to check it out then slid into the water to go back in the river and that's when it got hit
@@330Maniac I live in south Louisiana. Couple years back I remember an article in the paper, the the town Lafayette had just lost there Beaver trapper... He got old and retired... Anyway, the mayor wrote an article in the paper saying that he would give $30 a head for Beaver. He also said in the article he didn't care whether you shot them, trap them, hit them over the head with a baseball bat, or ran over them with a car, just bring him some Beaver heads. = ) Edit; They were pretty bad. I think the bounty still stands.

Hey bud why the mud? what does it trick the beaver into doing?
Mud makes them think another beaver is in there territory
@@330Maniac thx brother.. If you use Ig @north_woods_trapper. I have more questions ha
Nice
Wow, you got a grandpa beaver. Is beaver meat good for eating? I have heard some people say it's good, never have try or though about it.
Great tasting!
Same way I trap am hear in Michigan in march
What do you do with the beavers?
Sell them
I had to look it up, but the largest beaver ever trapped was 110 lbs! 62 is huge though!
86 lbs is my personal largest as well
@@330Maniac 😮
You make it look to easy to get them beaver out of the trap without setters.
I've done it lots of times! Muscle memory
hes got that old man strength, the kind that takes 40 years to get
How much did the first one weigh? Had to be 65lbs or more
62 lbs
Do you skin them and use the pelts, or are you just trapping them for the bounty. That 62 pounder, would probably make a hell of a hat. = )
I sell them whole. They aren't worth much. I mostly do it for the challenge and experience
