I took out to the Greater Colibri camp to a meripo and I landed my first WS that did more than 3k. It was amazing. Edit: wait, just noticed you said /drg for bonus accuracy. Wouldn't /mnk or /nin be a better choice for acc bonus? Sorry been a while since I've had to strategically think about subjob. But I did find an interesting and very long thread about /drg just by chance. Yep, I solo'd drg to 99 too. As well as dnc, the and of course bst. I did start during 75 cap in 2007 but have been still playing and leveling main and mules
Drg was a great sub for DRK zergs with the wyvern earring, also did Sam/drg with love halberd more than a few times at 75 bird camps. Also an LS mate could solo on his drg like no other. He solo’d Simurgh as a drg/blu during ToAU 75 era.
That homepoint comment was 100% meant that you will quickly reach your homepoint via death. As far as early leveling experience, I started out as a BLM, but quickly became frustrated that I couldn't do anything to help out the other adventurers I came across. RDM let me keep an offensive posture, but still help out a struggling random. Going /DRG now is a bit different than the before times because the job traits are so damn good.
I started as whm in 2007 and never lacked for a party. In fact I kept myself anon while doing crafts and other stuff cuz as soon as I uncovered my job and level, party request started... Or teleport requests. I made SO much gil in Jueno doing Teletaxi. I even had an announcement about welcome to my Teleport service and to keep hands and feet inside at all times lmao! 😁
And show of hands for those of us that laid there, dead, just hoping for a raise ✋👋🖖. Since I was a Whm main no matter what job I was in, I was stubborn... I either had reraise or looked for a raise hook up. Lol or better yet, had a husband that we took turns PLing each other.
I was primarily RDM. Loved it since FF1. Turned out to be a fantastic choice for progression, but I had no idea back when the game first launched. I remember my friends standing in Jeuno for an hour or more waiting for a party, and I had to log in with /anon turned on in order to have a moment of peace XD!
So on Nasomi last weekend, we had a full level 1 party. as a squad killing things within 1-2 hits, with signet, we were getting 25-40 exp per kill. we leveld fast enough to not need to rest as we always approached a level at the same moment together. It worked out very well! Better than anyone's ever thought. Having signet buffs helped a lot. I would always recommend partying up with someone else low level, even level one. Give it a try. :)
I remember being in Kuftal tunnel.. soloing crabs on DRG/BLU because I was out of the level range for colibri and nobody wanted to inv me. The BLU spells were so quick and Cocoon was too good. That HP thing was for sure shade lmao.
When a party ended in Yhoator or Yutunhga and you didn't have a warp scroll/ring or a black mage, going out and letting a mob kill you was the best way to quickly leave the area. Did that a lot after making sure I had a buffer to stave off de-leveling when you died.
@@gerardmccormick2863 IIRC it was once they realized that Asuran fists could essentially chain into itself, they changed the formula for tp gain from weaponskills to only grant full tp for the first hit, and 1tp for all others. That ws tp nerf took a long time for DRG to recover from.
@@Huntin4GamesChannel I was ~62 BLM when the multi-hit WS TP nerf hit. As pentathrust and other multi-hit WS started to come into play my contribution to a party went from "my damage carries this team" to "yes, I can cast cast cure 3". Then suddenly I became a crutch again. (I guess it could also be seen as strange that BLM was in a normal party config, but manaburn did not become popular until CoP.)
We need more Brady games content! Ha ha Also, I really would love to hear your thoughts on Corsair. It was my main job back in the day, and it’s absence is why I can’t I struggle to get into 14...
11:12 I really can't think of anything... only Brady may know, when writing this... But the comical value of the possible interpretation, that the job is the go-to choice for _"blood/death warp"_ is just golden. 😂
If the Dragon grew up into a bigger dragon depending on how you played the game determines what Dragon you get. If you sub war, NIN or PLD you would get a tank Dragon. If you sub Damage dealer then you would get mid evil dragon. If you sub mage you would get a Chinese Dragon that heals and dose support. At a certain level you get one of those dragons depends on how you played the game before that.
I partied before 10 a lot when I first started out and never heard of Dunes parties. What we would do is solo to 5-7 ish. Then party up but not the traditional way. We would just solo our own in exp range of each other. So we could still kinda chill and get decent exp. Plus those, ohhh shitt, moment of aggro were USUALLY less likely of death.
I was pretty gung-ho on warrior when I started in 2007. when I returned in 2018, I really wanted to play blu and cor. I'm currently replaying Dead Space.
I had a few sad job change ups when i played back then. I wanted to be a dark knight for so long but then the price of gear and spells made me change my mind and love them from afar and have a preference to invite them. I swapped to SAM since my sister was leveling smithing and handed me a hauby (current price was 1mil on ramuh at the time). Also wanted to try mages but again spells and gear drove me away.
Man I hardly ever hear anyone mention Ramuh. It's crazy. I never remember my server in any other MMO I've played. I couldn't even tell you what server I'm on now, but Ramuh. So many good memories.
I still remember my first job as a taru when I got to lvl 40 on BLM and decided to change to DRG. Disaster. Ended up leveling RNG when sidewinder was the definition of destruction
You can party at level 8 in valkurm dunes for good exp. The goblins and lizards on the highlands side are lower level. Not as good as the north west lizard camp but it is doable as a last resort.
I shifted around so much... but PLD became my first 75 mainly because I was an addict to those PT invites. Although in my heart I wanted DRG I only got it to 75 during the hax that was abyssia.
I started game way back with the 2hr. Drg was the only class I wanted and eventually got it. Was my first 75. If parties died in a high lvl area I was always able to survive and finish the fight. Drg skill timing I could be tough.
This fucking guide. I spent so much time reading it over and over and over waiting for the game to release, and while I loved it I'm convinced some of the misinformation in it lead me down the wrong path more than once.
Part of me wishes there was a version of 11 as envisioned by the brady games guide. Where the races and sub-job combinations are diverse, unique, and function as described.
I believe it is WHY-vern. Thats how my Irish grandmother always said it. It's part of her family crest. Sorry for so many comments XD Im buzzed and replying as I hear things, as though this is live.
Of course it wasn't the best combo but I do remember playing SAM/DRG on occasion because you could solo Light SC without using your 2h. You could achieve this by using jumps to build fast TP between weaponskills.
The Brady guide on Drg is pretty decent actually. Nothing offensive about it. Man, did I love me some Dragoon though. The leveling wasn't nearly as bad as people said, nor was Dragoon "bad", even during the lolDrg phase. You often fought bats, flies and other flying mobs that where weak to piecing damage. As you mentioned, it's gear selection prior to CoP getting released was honestly pretty laughable. I mean, below 75 cap, gear wasn't all that bad. You had access to battle gloves, the republican subligar , merc captain and centurion scale mail too. It's just things went down hill after the Scorpion Harness save for some rare pieces like the Ose Harness or Sky gear. Relic body was nice as well. Another weakenss Drg had was the lack of a decent secondary weapon type to use. It had a B in staves, but those had limited uses in a standard party. I mean, it had a C in swords, but only rapier types and was pretty much a non option in a standard party. Wall of text I know, but Dragoon was always a fave in 11 and It's my go to melee in 14.
I've said before but I did WAR to 30, then went and got whm to 21, back to war to 75 with a 21 whm sub. Then swapped to PLD. This was back in 04. I always wanted to lvl DRG, like really bad but never did. Even when I log in today my DRG is still like lvl 15.
Same, the job lacked the added abilities a wyvern pet brings to being a dragoon. I would have liked them to have added puppetmaster too, but seeing how some jobs in ffixv are gimped compared to ffxi versions.
so im typing this with the video @2:00 so im sure you will be touching on this but before ToUA DRG was the only job with a change of a subjob that can change so drastically with a melee sub you have a "dmg" wyvern and would do dmg breath attacks and a mage sub made it have "Healing" breath attacks that would cure you they also had the third type of hybrid that with a weapon skill of course would do a elemental attack and using magic would use healing breath. i typed all that out to make the point of because of this mechanic drg was my favorite job of all time. of cruse because retail had some kinda of LOLDRG mentality i can go out in the world as /rdm or whm and kill goblin pets for not bad EXP and even doing normal mobs if i was feeling ballies. now time to enjoy the video and see if you touch on this because idk if Brady games would have. edit: so i guess i just needed to get to 2:30 and you talk about this yes if you where at 25% HP or less (redHP) healing breath would trigger with the AF head it was 50% hp
to avoid fatigue, have you considered leveling a mule up to a specific job instead of your main character? in a way having multiple characters (with varying races) with different jobs and switching between them for content.
I do recall weird bugs with DRG and the wyvern way back but I can't pinpoint them. I do recall having to wait for 2 hour in instances even when they didn't die which was frustrating.
FFXI players: Wow DRG is soo cool, the wyvern really makes the job stand out! FFXIV devs: yeah.. let's get rid of the wyvern and make that job a complete meme. kek
You forget to add that it's because of the wyvern that DRG was so hard to balance in 11 by the developer's own admission which is why it was so inconsistent with how useful it was where-as DRG has been a top-tier job in 14 since it's inception. It's a meme because of the player-base, not the developers. Also, you realize DRG was a larger meme in 11 than it EVER has been in 14, right? Loldrg literally comes from FF11.
@@zakisslackin995 Uh pet classes exist. They're called Summoner and Scholar lol. It's not that Yoshi-P doesn't like pet classes, they're just difficult to balance. SMN in 14 is a good example of that. It's had some of the biggest ups and downs of any job in the game. At times it's been considered underpowered and nowadays many people consider it a top tier job. I don't think Yoshi's ever said BST is off the table completely, they'd just have to figure out how to implement it while keeping it balanced. Hell, need look no further than BST in 11. For a vast majority of it's life, BST was considered nigh on useless for endgame but nowadays it's top tier there cuz the 11 devs have basically given up on any concept of balance in retail 11. While I loved my wyvern in 11 that I had for 10 years, I honestly prefer not having one in 14 because it allows DRG to be far less frustrating to balance for the developers and it shows. I've played 14 since 1.0 launch and ever since it's introduction, DRG's been one of, if not THE most well balanced job in the game. It's essentially been top tier all throughout the games life without really ever being considered overpowered due to it's great balancing.
Brady didnt highlight that sweet sweet purple AF gear though. Poor Drg had it rough early leveling especially heavy aoe use mobs killing wyvrens off easy or forcing you to rest to heal it and losing tp. Prior to ToAU they struggled hard in gear too for tp gain with only Hectomb gear to rely on for Wheeling ws but that %slow just a slap in face. Had 1 drg use Joyuese Spirits Within spam on Kirin and spammed sleep pots opo-opo neck when slept by kirin using all that extra galka hp back in day.
Spears were always my favorite weapon in general, and yet I did not use DRG much at all. Why? Because the wait times for party invited as a BLU were killing me, and imagining what Hell would await we as a DRG, made not even want to try it. I did kind of play it in FF14, where it is my favorite melee job, but sadly I'm real bad at meleeing, so even in that game I don't use it all that much.
Puppetmaster was great. It replaced DRG as my fave for a while. It was especially great when suddenly my Soulsoother started casting Regen 2 and I easily kept my Eva and guard capped while soloing. Then I took on an IT and it wasn't even a challenge. Was like... "wait a minute" and started making unconventional parties with classes people weren't inviting, have Nutcracker main heal while I was still doing SOME dmg. Was nuts. We grew a LS from that lol.
Yes! That dragoon section is why I chose elvaan xD and after my first disaster in valkurm dunes it was settled. A couple of gobs that kept getting zoned to the konschtat side were causing all sorts of problems until a drg in full af popped in - jump - high jump - both gobbies dead and it was settled. It was my first 75. Also it's wai-vern. Or "Y"-vern
When I first started playing.....I was trying to make WAR/RDM w Great Sword happen. After I got chewed out in a party for it, I switched to DRG. Never went back. Until RUN came around. Who's laughin' now?
6:28 I heard you say "Jar Jar" instead of "Tarutaru" and forevermore I'll think of Tarutaru as the Jar Jar of FFXI. Jarujaru Binks. It makes too much sense.
I think you're interpreting the comments about partying at level 8 too much in light of dunes-75 partying. 7 or 8 is around the time "even match" starts to transition to "impossibly deadly" for most jobs and chaining them even more so. A partner or two makes a huge difference and lets you mow down evens and weaker toughs with impunity into the teens.
God, listening to these videos for the 3rd or 4th time makes me realise 1) how hopeful I am for Horizon 2) how disappointing XIV was in terms of originality and innovation
Took WHM, THF & NIN to 75 then out of nowhere decided I was gonna be a BLM. Took that to 75 and decided I wanted to be a PLD. Quit for 11 years then came back and decided I was a DNC lol. And yes, they were saying that DRG soloing just meant you are gonna die.
Shoutout to the best DRG on Valefor and leader of the LS "loldrg", Byxfluzba. I miss you buddy.

Colibri definitely changes the DRG world lol, so awesome
I had an all dragoon party a few times. All sub white mage. Quick kills and entire party able to heal all.

edit: so i guess i just needed to get to 2:30 and you talk about this yes if you where at 25% HP or less (redHP) healing breath would trigger with the AF head it was 50% hp
I was more of a samurai and ninja but I also dabbled in dragoon.
Just a little dab’ll do ya
Love the Brady games guide, never used it but, but nonetheless still love it
Saw it at GameStop for $11 had to do it
So amazing and mostly not helpful
Dancer also gets the Accuracy Bonus Job Trait.
to avoid fatigue, have you considered leveling a mule up to a specific job instead of your main character? in a way having multiple characters (with varying races) with different jobs and switching between them for content.
With other game’s 100%, with XI it always felt wrong somehow haha. Maybe I’m weird I dunno, XI was forever a 1 character game for me
the funniest things about these job guides are the macro flavor text--- i remember people doing that crap back then too
Love it man.. need to link up with you on Eden
Wow...
I think i played like you ... Shifted so much i liked everything pup is my current main
And its y vern
I do recall weird bugs with DRG and the wyvern way back but I can't pinpoint them. I do recall having to wait for 2 hour in instances even when they didn't die which was frustrating.
Colibri, the yummiest of s.
Tuesday night stream... DRG/WHM GoGoGo!!!
i did worm partys in la thene at level 8 first day i played back in 2004 that was the last time i ever party again before level 10-12
FFXI players: Wow DRG is soo cool, the wyvern really makes the job stand out!
FFXIV devs: yeah.. let's get rid of the wyvern and make that job a complete meme. kek
Blegh yep
You forget to add that it's because of the wyvern that DRG was so hard to balance in 11 by the developer's own admission which is why it was so inconsistent with how useful it was where-as DRG has been a top-tier job in 14 since it's inception. It's a meme because of the player-base, not the developers. Also, you realize DRG was a larger meme in 11 than it EVER has been in 14, right? Loldrg literally comes from FF11.
The one ability that made a meme for DRG in 14 has been fixed too with the addition of High Jump completely negating the long animation lock.
If only Yoshi P liked pet classes, then maybe we would of had baby drg... rip bst ever getting into xiv q_q
What do you think the Brady guide would have said for newer jobs (ToAU+)?
Edit: Also, death warp :p
Puppetmaster was the best and my favorite to level in both party and solo.
Or "Y"-vern
At first if you logged out or even zoned you lost it.. also drg could not use Osode. I think all they could use was the Crimson set.
Just Crimson and Coral, if I remember. But nobody really took coral seriously anyway; good ws set, I guess, but definitely not coveted.
Yes! That’s right, I knew it was something up thrrr, I couldn’t remember a DRg wearing it as soon as o said it haha
I don’t think I ever saw a drg in it as pld and rdm seemed to have first dibs on it
Wasn’t the drg/sam penta thrust nerfed in the first six months of zilart’s release?
Ya it was really early, I was aware of it but never saw it with my own eyes
When I first started playing.....I was trying to make WAR/RDM w Great Sword happen. After I got chewed out in a party for it, I switched to DRG. Never went back. Until RUN came around. Who's laughin' now?
6:28 I heard you say "Jar Jar" instead of "Tarutaru" and forevermore I'll think of Tarutaru as the Jar Jar of FFXI. Jarujaru Binks. It makes too much sense.
Taru-Taru Dragoon/ Thief for life !
Best mmorpg ever made.
I don’t care which alternate universe you look at... no one has EVER said “this party needs a DRG” 🤣🤣🤣
I remember we always said loldrg
God, listening to these videos for the 3rd or 4th time makes me realise
1) how hopeful I am for Horizon
2) how disappointing XIV was in terms of originality and innovation
Took WHM, THF & NIN to 75 then out of nowhere decided I was gonna be a BLM. Took that to 75 and decided I wanted to be a PLD. Quit for 11 years then came back and decided I was a DNC lol.
And yes, they were saying that DRG soloing just meant you are gonna die.
omg omg omg, can we talk about those macros? I totally want to use them.
Right???
The macros were a great system. Lots of cheese with those.
No gameplay through this :=
Yea.. they sold a good dream
What a beautiful concept
It is pronounced O-so-day
loldrg
Fifteenth!
It means you die easily
Yeah, yeah subjobs and racial traits, blah blah blah. BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT THOSE CRINGE MACROS FOR A MINUTE?!
