    FFXI is one of those games that dosent hold your hand all the way through the game, wich i love.
    It's also one hell of an adventure in an overwhelmingly amazing world.
    Many of todays mmo / games in general, lack the sense of adventure & depth.
    And FFXI is a proof of that, visual appeal is definitly not everything. (then again, in my eyes its still beautiful)
    FFXI is my lady thats round around the edges & squishy soft to hug.

    I spent so much time in this game - if they remastered it and got it on a new engine like FFXIV engine and I’d seriously do it all over again in my 40s haha

    I'm still hoping out for a Classic version of XI. Imagine starting from the very beginning and they release expansions over time. How cool would it be if they could add mobile cross platform play and progression.

      Sounds like Nightmare Fuel lol and non profit. Most gamers or to be more correct so called "Gamers" are very VERY VERY Lazy/Handicap and want ADHD Gameplay. So yeah not to be mean or anything but I hope they dont waste their time with it. Yes I agree it be nice but its just in Theory though, because most other players have a life now too so Not a lot of time to play and we all remember this game requires time... "Lots of Time" lol

      I would LOVE to see an official classic server for FFXI, managed by Square Enix. I think it would draw a lot of people from classic era private servers if only for the security of longevity, but it would be especially popular if they included it with the FFXIV subscription (and current retail FFXI). I know a lot of people don't want to try or return to XI because they're already playing XIV, and don't want to pay for two subscriptions, and who can blame them?

    I like the idea of an MMO going on forever. However, I do like to see endings to story lines. And that's what I appreciate about XIV right now. The main story they have been focusing on for ten years has come to an end but the game continues with new story lines. It keeps the world alive and the characters going but it's also not like a soap opera where it's a long drawn out plot that goes nowhere.

    • @Huntin4GamesChannel
      @Huntin4GamesChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh definitely, plots should tie up and close up, and then new ones start haha

    Finding that new experience to fall in love with again as FFXI did previously when it first graced our presence. I miss the experience of a wondrous adventure where I was completely in the dark not knowing what to expect and just mystery around every corner. Playing more and more, getting stronger, learning the game's intricacies and adding to my knowledge all which showed my potential and growth within the world. I felt accomplished and the game constantly was throwing stuff at me to get better. This type of game just doesn't really exist anymore for the future market. I do want to find another game like FFXI to rekindle that love again. I do miss it a lot. Going back to FFXI while is nice once a while will never truly recapture the feeling when I first went on the adventure 20 years ago.

    I've been playing FFXIV with long breaks for many years. Binge the expansion, take a 3 month break. Binge the patch, take a 3 month break. I'm not into the endgame raiding, so this works for me.
    I feel like I've "completed" the current version of the game each time I finish a patch and take a break.
    Regarding character lore- I recently started a new character in FFXI after a 10 year break, and named her after my FFXIV character.
    My headcanon is that my FFXI Adventurer is another part of Azem. Vana'diel as a whole is a shard. Iroha's original timeline may just be what happened to the 13th (Vana'diel?) in FFXIV lore.
    I came back soon after finishing Endwalker and played Rhapsodies of Vana'diel for the first time. Everything just fit together so well for this to make sense- at least to me.
    Then there's the latest FFXIV patch which I won't spoil, which is making me even more convinced of this.
    There is real potential for a major crossover between Eorzea and Vana'diel. I doubt they'll do it, but it could work if they want it to.

    My issue with D&D (and a ton of games in general) is your same concern with Warhammer. I love the planning stage. I do research, make spreadsheets, flow charts. etc.. Then when i actually start doing whatever it is that I was planning, I get bored or distracted with something else. I tend to enjoy the 'idea' of things more than the things themselves. This is probably why I still love oldschool RPGs more than anything, cause most your time is spent in your menu; planning, selecting party members, comparing gear, setting spells, etc. The actual battles are kind of monotonous background music in comparison. This is the same reason I have a hard time finishing projects or even games for that matter. Once I feel that I've adequately planned what I need to do in order to finish, there's no desire to actually finish it anymore.

      You described what I've gone through my entire life. We must be a somewhat unique personality type. I think of things in logical steps kind of habitually. I constantly think of things in terms of A to B to C - Z and figure out the "why" along the way. I do this with everything. In games I end up researching, making notes of progressions and efficient choices to be made but then when I play, half the time I shut the game off lol. I played FFXI for 6 years or so. It is my favorite game ever.

    I appreciate your enthusiasm for this game. It’s meant a lot to many people over the years. I do hope that it sunsets at some point. A game this great deserves to end ppl deserve the opportunity to reflect on the journey.

    Due to the nature of ever-expanding games like MMORPGs, I feel like each player sets their own "end" point. Each of us has our own goals and motivations, and once we've reached those goals, that is, realistically, our own ending. We can always create new goals for ourselves, but that's basically creating a new challenge or adventure. It's up to us as individuals to decide where our journey ends, and I think that's part of what makes games like these so compelling -- our own, unique stories.

    • @Huntin4GamesChannel
      @Huntin4GamesChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a great point! My “end point” goal kept evolving with time

    Hey man, been following you for a long time. I met my wife on FFXI almost 20 years ago and we're still going strong. Anyhow, the BEST game for Warhammer 40k is coming out Sept 13. It's called Darktide and it's by Fatshark. It's a new iteration of the Vermintide series which is excellent. I'll be playing it on Xbox primarily. Grimnirs Axe1

    I think a game can go on forever as long as there is a thing to do and the game is cared for. I think that with an mmo, there needs to be something to attain. It doesn't always need huge and massive content patches but sometimes i do wish ffxi would have an expansion drop. a new job to shake something up. a new ilvl bracket to push into and past. I think an mmo can last forever as long as its guided into forever especially if it isn't a sandbox style game.

    I loved the social aspect of FFXI along with the never ending mentality behind it. Not only could I always be improving my character, but I could help everyone around me grow. Our relatively casual LS went from barely being able to get AF gear to doing sky, sea, salvage, those picture thing NMs, and even some HNMs. I loved watching our LS grow

    11 needs a remaster with features from windower built in, its great but tedious in many areas, from travel, to waiting to join battlefields to week long lockouts.

    I'm mixed on this. On one hand, a game that never ends gives me a reason to keep playing a game I enjoy. A game that never ends also keeps me from playing other games I want to play. If there was a definite end, I could say I'm done and move on. With a game like FFXI, there's so much to do that I'll get sucked in forever while my backlog of games grow.

    I just miss FFXI. I've played quite a few MMO's. And there have been 2 I have loved. FFXI... first by a landslide. And LOTRO. I've taken a most jobs to cap in FFXI (75 era), one "class" to cap in LOTRO (minstrel, like a whm in ffxi), and one class to cap in Guild Wars (ranger... like a rng believe it or not). Nothing holds a candle to FFXI. And honestly, if it were F2P, I'd still be hooked on it. I really hope 14 comes to Xbox soon. I want something similar, but just enough different I can play it without missing XI too much. Thanks for another great video.

    Hey Huntin for games.. I am having a hell of a time getting a ps4 controller to work without input lag on windows.
    Can you do a video on how to get a newer ps4 controller to work on ffxi wirelessly without input lag?
    Just a ps4 controller video would be huge I think for the community. I think I am pretty close to figuring it out so, this isn't so much a plea for help for me, it's just more for anyone who is starting their ffxi journey and reducing their barrier to entry.
    I almost called it quits altogether a couple times trying to get this dang thing to work without any critical issues.

    • @Huntin4GamesChannel
      @Huntin4GamesChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh no! I haven't tried the PS4 controller, but i'm surprised it has extra lag. what did you work through to fix it?

    • @Strawhat_Pirates3D2Y
      @Strawhat_Pirates3D2Y 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Huntin4GamesChannel I did~ The answer was to buy an Xbox controller. Worked flawlessly, wirelessly just needed to do the usual FFXI config button mapping and that's it.
      Go figure. Say 'no' to Sony peripherals on Windows. I guess I was trying to fit Square peg through a round hole.

    No offense but modern mmo games are trash. Perfect example is lost ark. Games are too easy and hold your hand 24/7. They are super boring. FFXI is the only mmo I can play.

      This is true. I've played every modern mmo basically yet for the past year I've only played ffxi (as a new player even) they're way too hand holdy and surface level games. Sad to say youre not ginna find the ffxi experience with anything else. Except maybe EQ2 and wow classic are the only games I've found relatively similar. Modern mmos just don't have that *spark* ffxi has.

    The MMORPG of Tomorrow for me needs to do a few things.
    VR for immersion at home, focusing on 1 to 2 hr events after work. A none-VR mode of the same thing for players that get sick playing this way/cannot afford the gear. If one runs out of time to play for the day, rewards should be given based performance up to that point made by server calculations. 30 Minutes is a lot of free time, but not many MMORPG-events can be cleared in that time. So partial participation for partial rewards. Also removes the issue of disconnecting at the designated handing out the rewards moments, wasting your entire effort.
    A mobile app interacting with the game server during commute/break/vacations ect. This App should be able to move your character ingame to the position you want it to be once you get home for example. Do a limited amount of a part time job with your character, including minigames and passive actions that gives you rewards (farming materials, crafting, helping out at a store/guarding the town for monetary rewards.), manage the auction house, inventory and other taks that you don't want to do during your prime time of playing the game. Should also allow your character to join live events such as besieged upon notice (passively or with a minigame with better rewards).
    Scaling difficulty shouldn't turn the game into a platform game like FFXIV. Actions by players should impact behaviour of the enemy unlike in FFXIV, where it is just the same script running every time. crafting and pve rewards need to be equal and released at the same time for beginning, mid and end level of a content season. Make key materials come from the pve content. This way neither gil becomes useless nor the content gets abandoned.
    Things like mobile app connecting to game server need to be secure, passive actions require good anti-RMT protection, VR and normal mode require a lot of work too.
    Probably that's why we haven't seen anything like this properly implemented yet, despite being technically possible for a few years already.
