Saturday morning for me .The floor is all over the place .Good clip .
considering the board is 6mm thought the screws were going in a bit deep

Damn….I put felt paper down over the wood floor as a water barrier then screwed the hardiboard down without using thinset/mortar. Felt it flexing a tad over the joints so found this video to show me how to do it correctly. Now I have to unscrew allllll this hardiboard. Can I reuse it or do I need to buy new sheets without holes. Thank you and nice art work

Thanks for this great video. You mention that the adhesive is to level the floor or as a gap filler. If the floor is already level would you not just screw the HardieBacker Board straight Onto the flooring you have?
Thanks for your question! The tile adhesive is required to ensure the board is 100% adhered to the floor and also to help with floor deviation. The manufacturer warranty only applies if it's "glued and screwed" to the wall or floor. Hope this helps with your project!

What exact "adhesive" are you using? There are several choices at the hardware stores. I cant get a straight answer from anybody. I'm trying to adhere my hardiebacker to my plywood sub-floor. Thanks in advance for your help.
I was told, as long as its cement based white adhesive its fine. End of the day the mechanical fixing, screws are more important. The purpose of adhesive is to fill in voids, so your cement board doesn't crack on a uneven pressure.

You say doesnt have to be flexible. But what about if it is a wooden floorboard?
Hi! The adhesive used to affix tiles to the backer board does not need to be flexible, this is not affected by the substrate under the board. Please note the boards must be fixed securely with no vertical movement before tiling begins. Hope this helps!

Sorry i was referring to the adhesive used under the backer board. My subfloor is floorboards which i will be attaching the Hardie backerboards to. Can you please suggest an adhesive and whether it needs to be flexible or not?

I don't get why there needs to be a gap between the cement board if your just going to fill it in with mortar, which seems to eliminate any benefit of a gap (to prevent swelling issues).
Hi! It is advised to leave a 3mm gap between floor and wall edges which should then be filled with a good quality bathroom sealant. It is not advised to leave a gap between the boards themselves. Good luck with your project!
On another Hardie backer video it says to leave a 3mm gap between the boards. Is that still the case?

Do we still have to use the tape if there is no gap.

Hi there! Thank you for this video, however I need to ask our day to day English terraced homes contain the wooden mis-shape plank floorboards are you saying we can use Hardie backer board by using adhesive over our plank floorboards to lay the Hardie backer which I find our floorboards have a few gaps in. How does that work?!?! Or should I use a ply board over my original plank boards in order to lay adhesive for backer board? I want to tile my bathroom floor. Thank you
Hi, thanks for your question.
If the floor is in poor shape you may need to replace some of the floorboards before starting the installation. The key is that the floor is as flat and stable as possible. If the gaps are only small you can apply the tile adhesive directly onto the floorboards. It will take up any voids and give you a flat surface to apply the HardieBacker boards onto.

Can I say if that is the case, applying adhesive to our plank floorboards what happens when we need to lift the tiles up due to central heating pipe leak... does that mean the whole original plank floorboards needs to come up because the adhesive is solid rock holding on to the planks so therefore it's damaged?
Isn't it best to screw down the waterproof backer board to the original plank floorboards rather adhesive? Thank you ❤️
Hi! The manufacturer guidance for this product is to use both adhesive and screws to secure the boards before tiling. Using screws only would likely void the warranty of the product.
The boards will lift from the original floor if needed, although they will leave behind dried adhesive, debris, etc. The condition of the floor after removal will depend on how carefully the tiles and backerboard is lifted.
If you want to protect the floors from any adhesive, you may wish to use the BAL Flexbone 2Easy floating mat instead of a backerboard. This product lies on top of the substrate and allows you to remove your flooring installation easily. We would suggest using tiles of at least 600x600mm size if this method is used.
