Sadly there really needs to be WAY MORE WOMEN, as cool as Dani!! Luck for me I have one such woman myself!! A woman that understands cars is such a rare find these days!!!
Teaching your loved one how to drive standard is not for the faint of heart. Well done both of you. Good job Dani! You killed it, those 454s have a lot of power.
I agree, you're much better off getting a neutral 3 rd party to teach them, so they can be as hard on them as necessary without it resulting in your divorce.
Years ago I tried teaching my wife how to drive a manual transmission it would end in a argument. Then she would say WHY do I need to learn to drive a manual I'd tell her what if something happens and your only way out of a bad situation is driving a manual vehicle. We live in a very remote location our lane is almost 2 miles long my plow truck is a old ford 4x4 with a manual transmission what if I die wouldn't it be convenient if you can plow the lane. She'd answer then I'll learn at that time I told her whose gonna replace the clutch after you smoke the clutch trying to learn not me if I'm dead. Well needless to say she still can't drive a manual transmission a man can only do so much.
I had to teach my wife to drive stick 35 years ago after her Pinto lost a timing belt. She had one day to learn how to drive my X-11 Citation in order to make it to work the next day. After she got the basics down I took to a street on a big hill and told her stop mid way up. She actually nailed it on the first try slipping the clutch and not letting it roll backwards.
Danni starts the car with the petal to the floor. Dan laughs his butt off...."thats awesome " these 2 are awesome to watch. tried teaching my wife stick at 45 and it didn't go nearly this well
Dani did great. I’ve taught several people how to drive a standard and as always it’s first gear starts that are tough. She’s a natural, she’ll be wanting to put a standard in every thing. Great teaching too Dan, you were calm. That’s key to stay calm. You guys keep up the great content.
Teaching someone to start on a hill is the hardest specifically American cars e brake down low takes the person a min. Wre import right hand on the e brake got your two feet clutch and gas.free.
I don't even have to watch this to know it's going to be a good one. Dannie will learn in no time, it's like learning the controls of another video game. From bobcat to standard shes got this.
One of the best exercises for learning clutch control is to have them slowly let the clutch out and get the car moving without applying any throttle, and without stalling. It forces them to focus solely on clutch manipulation before trying to explain how RPM changes the equation. My boys have insisted on learning how to drive in a stick (which certainly adds a little complexity, trying to learn to drive stick and how to navigate the rules of the road at the same time), and that exercise has definitely helped them learn how to release the clutch smoothly. You did good Dani! Keep at it because practice is the only way to get more comfortable with it.
Taught my sister to drive stick. Used one of my dads dump trucks - 13speed transmission that was well used, no clutch brake, and a 8v71 Detroit- a true man’s truck. My mom though I was nuts but I told my sister if she could shift and drive that a car is easy. At the time the experience was well ….trying… but she got it. She wouldn’t be doing fancy float shifting but she got the basics. And could do it on her own. Years later she admitted that I was right and it was a huge confidence builder just knowing she could manage to drive something so large and difficult to shift. She respected that I could drive it so easily. Hats off to you for teaching!
Dan you have the patients of a Saint man! Very nice job Dani, you went from being terrified to enjoying it with Dan teaching you what to do. Now you can brag that you learned how to drive a standard in a Big Block 454 Nova girl. Congratulations you will be slamming gears in another week!!
I taught my wife's son how to drive a standard by putting the truck in the bottom of a creek facing up the bank and told him to get it out. He got it on second try, stalled on first attempt. Perfect shirt for this event...:)...lol....fun watching this video, Dani's reactions are a blast.
I took my wife to low hill in a cemetery. She killed it few times . Then some asshole came threw there I got out to tell him to drive around somehow I embarrassed her she didn't refused to learn. anymore.
It's always an experience learning standard but Dani did very well. With practice and confidence she will be wanting to drive the cool toys a lot more. 😄
I learned in a 1938 Chevy pickup. My dad wasn't as nice as you Dan. Took my test in a 68 Chevy with a 3 in the tree. Way to go Dani ! You'll be doin burnouts with that rig in no time.
I learned to drive stick on a 5 speed 77 Chevy c60 with a 366 gas and two speed rear. I was told to get in and learn in a rock quarry. Got good after awhile. Teach her how to drive a three on the tree those are cool. Dani you crack me up you are awesome. Don't get to stressed.
after my first kid i always taught them how to drive stick on the four wheeler first !once they learned the gas to clutch concept it was much easyer to switch over to the car!thanks for the laughs and the flash backs good times!!!
My dad taught me how to drive my new duster with 3 speed. Went pretty good. But he never told me about down shifting going up hills! Car stalls half way up. Talk about panic mode. Pushed in clutch, car starts to roll backwards down the hill. Stopped and after a couple of tries, made to the top. Will never forget that day, even now when I go up that same hill! You are doing great, Dani.
Good for you Danni! Dan, kudos for your patience. Brings back memories of teaching both of my daughters to drive a stick. Yes, Danni, there were tears. Some of them were mine to be honest. I took them out on a frozen lake for their first drives. We started with the Jeep in 2wd so when they dumped the clutch too quick, the wheels would just spin. When they got the hang of things we moved to 4wd for more traction. They killed the engine a bunch of times before they got it figured out. The best part of driving on the lake is that we had lots of room in case they panicked and hit the wrong pedals. They both became skilled and my youngest who is now in her early 30s, still insists on owning a manual.
Oh yes the memories are coming back, I had to learn on a 3 on the tree, now that was a blast, never heard so many swears in my life till then. That's like riding a bike, you will never forget how to drive a stick, I'm 44 years old and my grandfather taught me in a 67 ford galaxie, 2 door hard top. Love to still have it. Great job Danny. Keep up the great work
Dani did well! Taught my sister to drive a stick in my VW, not as easy as Dani. She then got a Vega, which I ended up putting two clutches in. Thank god the guy I worked for then had a lift. Both my daughters can drive a stick. The oldest one, we were on a trip from Minnesota to Wisconsin, first time with a stick, she drove most of the way! Granted, a Geo, 3 cylinder, not a big block. Second daughter we did the parking lot thing in her Neon, one day and she was pretty good. My youngest, my son, didn't have any thing with a stick at the time for him to learn, and he passed away before he could learn. His sisters always held that over him if the topic came up.
Very cool. She did awesome. 40 years ago I had the same parking lot instruction, only difference i had to drive from Niagara Falls to rural Pennsylvania right after my lesson. I was a nervous wreck getting through Buffalo. 70 LeMans Sport 400 4spd, 16 years old, was given the car IF I could drive it, determination got me through it. Fun video thanks for sharing.
Yet Gonna Create a Monster Bro!! Big Smiles here for Both of You! Wait until she learns how to Side Step the clutch at about 4k! This Viewer is making a request for Launch Day. Thank you
She gives the redline right off the bat. She'll be fine .. Reminds me of my 16 year old daughter learned to drive the lifted dodge on 40's big block and 4 speed over 9 foot 7 tall . She was 5 foot then.
Years ago I took an old girlfriend to a High School parking lot on a Sunday with my 55 Chevy to learn to drive a 4 speed. No traffic what so ever anywhere huge lot. Having moving cars around is a no no for the initial trial makes you just more nervous for sure. How ever she did pretty good in learning the 4 speed clutch and gas, brake coordination thing. Nice Job!
That's a perfect example of how to teach anyone to drive as well as to drive stick! Patient, calm and confident. The person learning won't have much or any confidence themselves yet, so they will develop that quicker by feeding off of yours, and will help keep them from panicking. Especially if something goes very wrong. I have taught several people to drive, and 2 to drive a stick. They all picked up quickly and those that needed to go for their driving tests passed first time. I taught my oldest daughter to do both in a 1991 Toyota Tersel. Super simple setup and tough little drive trains. I took her out and had her watch what I did, then put her in the drivers seat and went through the tutorial just like Dan did. And my daughter let the clutch out for the first time and took off with out much issue and that was it with her! She loved driving the stick so much that even now 20yrs later she still refuses to buy an automatic! Then I taught my wife which was much harder, she had no confidence, panicky, and had only ever drove an automatic. I feel it is easier to teach someone to drive stick who has not driven an automatic yet, or for very long, due to their instincts are honed to that and they are fighting with the difference's. However she learned quickly enough. And I taught my youngest daughter to drive a couple of years ago and she was quick picking it up from me, her mother and sister were always nagging at her and criticizing her every move, and panicking when she would make a mistake, but never gave the girl any consistent constructive input. But I would take her out on the weekends when I got home, and she always did great, and listened to instructions, and the difference was me being patient with her, calm when she did make a mistake and explained to her what she did wrong and how to correct it, plus I showed her I was confident in her figuring it out which help her own confidence. So watching Dan teaching Danni like he was, was awesome. Your a good dude Dan! My next adventure will be teaching my youngest to drive stick, I just have to wrestle my oldests car away to teach her.
I have taught 3 girls to drive manual transmissions (my wife and two daughters). My daughters were actually the easiest because they had no experience at all, they both tell me that they have great memories of it, I don’t point out it’s why I prematurely went grey lol. It’s a great tool to have in your tool box of knowledge Danni, you did great and have a great teacher, congrats.
Dan, i commend you on your patience! Danielle, dont get discouraged, once you get it, its forever! And good on ya for your willingness to try! My brother tried to teach his future wife how to drive a civic, they were not happy with each other. I went for a few laps around the block with her and the rest is history.
Danni, I taught my younger sister to drive manual. It took me three tries ( 3 different times out.) and she caught right on. She was very nervous, it was my 1st new car. Dan & I never yelled which is most important...
Nice job Dani, you picked up on it quickly. Maybe Dan can teach me how to drive a BBC Nova 4-speed. It might take me a few burnouts to get it figured out. 😉
That was fun to watch. Brings back memories of teaching my daughter. She is now teaching her last of five kids to drive. But they are automatics. Not the same thing. But she learned on a stick shift.
You did a great job teaching Dani to drive a stick shift! My boss in 1983,yelled and screamed at me.ive never learned to drive a stick, probably because I like automatics.
Dani you did great you had a good teacher. This reminds me of teaching my gf to drive stick in my 12 second 72 plymouth satellite drag car, she got it in a few tries and was doing burn outs in a week, great times.
First off she looks fine today. Then Dan, I don't know if I'd have as much patience but you nailed the patience. And last but definitely not least, Dani did GREAT! I can't believe it was her first time. She really nailed it!
I don't usually make comments like this, but y'all are so cute together.😆 It's not just learning a new skill. It is also spending time together and making fun memories.
Love the look on Danni's face when she thinks she's doing something wrong. I'm sure the Nova is not an easy car to learn on. Very exciting to watch her 😳 go through the gears
That may have been one of my favorite videos! She did awesome with the big block stick shift. That’s how everyone should learn to drive stick. Great Job Dani!
I taught my wife (GF at the time) to drive stick in my 85 Toyota Camry - four cylinder five speed. She managed to roast the tires in that car. You are a brave man to put her in something with that much power.
Great job Dani! Dan was a cool and calm teacher for sure. My Dad was a bit tougher on me. I learned on a just as difficult ride, a 75 F-100, 351w, manual steering, manual brakes, and a 3 on the tree. Oh and bias plies lol. Once you get the hang of it its kinda like riding a bicycle, once you learn you never forget. - Jamie
Good job Dani! I learned to drive a manual on my dad's 63 Corvette 327 w/4.56:1 gears, so I can relate to her trying to learn a manual in a car like that.
Way to go Dani! I remember well that look of pure joy when you get how it works and nail it! I've taught at least 6 teenagers to drive stick, and it was always fun....I loved this video...kudos to both of you!
OMG Guys that was a Great video! Dani You did Great! Dan you were an excellent teacher as well. Wow how cool to learn stick in a bad ass Nove w/ BB ans 4 speed! Bangin Gears! 🤘🔥
I absolutely loved this video. Laughed the entire time because it happened for Dani the exact same way it happened for me. Except mine was a small block Chevy. I had the same panic moments, cried because I was so anxious and then once I got it I was so proud. That is until I had to go in traffic. I felt like I was gonna die. It's not easy to sit and watch someone try to learn something that's so easy for you. So good job, Dan keeping it fun and laughing so she didn't feel so bad. You two are great!
We all have to start somewhere. This brings back good memories. I taught my Niece & Nephew to drive a manual trans. Being an old guy, I grew up with manuals. Well done, Dani.
You're doing awesome Dani. I never got my wife out of the parking lot, lol. Now you need to take off alone and hone your skills. You have the basics down. Now you just need to practice.
I never realized how quiet Dani really is. You two are amazing. She did an awesome job first time driving sticks in a race car. Dan you have amazing patience. And Dani you should have confidence as your first time on camera. You did great
I had a 1970 Red Nova close to the same color as your 57 convertible. I converted it to a 4speed 350. Had a group of us that worked together an virtually everybody had a Nova. You bring back some cool memories with that BA Ride thanks.
I've watched this 6 times, and now I'm absolutely positive that the Nova rides too smooth.
😆 Ageed😁
Dani has the personality/face where you have to laugh and there’s no way you could be mad at her 😂😂, she’s the coolest 🤙🏻
SHE IS CHILDISH
Sadly there really needs to be WAY MORE WOMEN, as cool as Dani!! Luck for me I have one such woman myself!! A woman that understands cars is such a rare find these days!!!
Teaching your loved one how to drive standard is not for the faint of heart.
Well done both of you. Good job Dani! You killed it, those 454s have a lot of power.
Oh. I agree. There can be some very tense moments for sure. Prepare for the worst. Arguing that is.
I agree, you're much better off getting a neutral 3 rd party to teach them, so they can be as hard on them as necessary without it resulting in your divorce.
It is very similar to loading/unloading a boat at a busy boat launch. Full stress lol.
Years ago I tried teaching my wife how to drive a manual transmission it would end in a argument. Her smile and little chuckle was priceless when she finally got it ! Great job Dan for keepin it together !
Outstanding Dani!! No problems you got this until the first stop sign with a hill!! Love it 😀
Dani did great. I’ve taught several people how to drive a standard and as always it’s first gear starts that are tough. She’s a natural, she’ll be wanting to put a standard in every thing. Great teaching too Dan, you were calm. That’s key to stay calm. You guys keep up the great content.

Good job Dani, and don't cry! Just remember, you can always push the clutch back in, if it's lurching.
I don't even have to watch this to know it's going to be a good one. Dannie will learn in no time, it's like learning the controls of another video game. From bobcat to standard shes got this.
Keep up the practice Danni! We all learned the same way.
Your opel wont be as hard as this beast to drive.
Look at her face what opel dan will never see the nova again lol

I taught my kids the same way!
Just remember Danni: "If you can't find it--grind it." Dan can always fix it between projects! 😆
You are so right!
When Dani had it and you said you got this the ear to ear grin on her face WAS priceless.
I love you guys and the haters can sit and spin.
Learning stick on a big block 4 speed aint easy, good job Danielle!
If your going to learn. Go Big.!
Usually this would end in a fight, but Dan and Dani got this. Good job both of you
It would be a big fight if this was my wife and me. Lol. They did good!
@@unclemarksdiyauto Same here. LOL
@@jack002tuber LOL!
You two genuinely like each other, otherwise this could have gone really bad.
You can drive anything if you can drive that beast. Good job Dani!
You go Dani you will soon be cruising the streets in a fancy 4 speed car . That’s great and you got good teacher. Stay safe. ✌️😎👍
Awsome Danni, brought back memories of teaching my Wife how to drive a stick over 40 years ago!
That laugh you had when you both started the car the first time in the lot was great.
"If you're ever worried about anything..." "Scream?" Love it! Great fun you both are.
Dani you did great, all this in one session. You have all the Hot Rod things against you yet you "Recovered"! Great job both of you.
Nice Job Dani! if you still have problems put the gas pedal to the floor and sidestep the clutch pedal and hang on👍
well I just seen a comedy show at it's best? Queen DD driving stick.... I remember trying to get my wife two drive stick.... LoL 😂🤣😂🤣 love this video
Wow, I remember those days! Dani did good! Pretty soon she gonna be banging gears!
Taught my sister to drive stick. Used one of my dads dump trucks - 13speed transmission that was well used, no clutch brake, and a 8v71 Detroit- a true man’s truck. Awww. Love her heart, she's a tough one bubba, better hold onto her. Very proud
One of the most honest and funny videos. Great success. Dani, next week go for burn-outs, donuts and wheelies.....
Don't even tell her the part about being stopped on a hill.
She'll have a panic attack.
Dani is all about practice and confidence.
Keep at it and you'll be fine.
Great video as usual.
I learned in a 1938 Chevy pickup. My dad wasn't as nice as you Dan. Took my test in a 68 Chevy with a 3 in the tree. Way to go Dani ! You'll be doin burnouts with that rig in no time.
With every shift now we know why it is called double d speedshop.
😆
.
Never a bad spot and look at it this way Dani you are in total control of everything in a manual car.
Just takes me back when I taught my son. Never laughed so hard. I feel for both of you. Danni you really did great. Everyone starts out like that's
You did really good.. some people can’t get it to go.. 😂
Buddy, you're a good teacher.
Very calm, encouraging, and too the point. Awesome job, and your girl did good too.

That was fun. Thanks D and D for putting this up!
Love her giggle when she got the shift

Dani, you did AWESOME!!!, And Dan you did amazing teaching her. Great job to you both.
Poor Dani, she looked so nervous, but she she did great. Dan you da man for teaching her. So mellow you are.
I don't imagine the old Nova is the easiest to learn on 😲.Love you Danny 😉. Smiles 😃 from Huntsville Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Great Job Dani! You got this girl.
Vary awesome indeed. Nice 👍 on getting the stick shift Dannie. Sweet. Keep up the great work. Okay.

First off she looks fine today. Then Dan, I don't know if I'd have as much patience but you nailed the patience. And last but definitely not least, Dani did GREAT! I can't believe it was her first time. She really nailed it!
Great job Danielle!! Good teaching Dan!!
Much respect man you got a lot of patience much love from Norwich Connecticut
I taught my wife (GF at the time) to drive stick in my 85 Toyota Camry - four cylinder five speed. She managed to roast the tires in that car. You are a brave man to put her in something with that much power.
If Danny gets comfortable in that car. She can drive anything!. Well done!
OK one of the most funny and honest videos in this category. Dani, Next week, burn-outs, donuts and wheelies......🤣😂😅.
Nice smile Danni, you nailed your first lesson. Now its just practice, like riding a bike. Good job Dan. Stay safe guys.
This was amazing 🤣🤣 I love the "no pressure but here's another slight issue added on" every few seconds at the beginning. She did great!
- Jamie
That was great she did great for a first timer in a car like that and you had some patience there
Good job Dani!
I learned to drive a manual on my dad's 63 Corvette 327 w/4.56:1 gears, so I can relate to her trying to learn a manual in a car like that.
Nice job! Really fun to watch and brought back great memories. Thanks.
Its ok to cry when you're learning something new! That's gold
You're doing awesome Dani. I never got my wife out of the parking lot, lol. Now you need to take off alone and hone your skills. You have the basics down. Now you just need to practice.
Way to go Dani! When Dan finishes the opal you’ll be a pro!
I taught my daughter to drive.... That was two years ago and we have only just started talking again.... You are a better man than me Dan!
I never realized how quiet Dani really is. You two are amazing. She did an awesome job first time driving sticks in a race car. Dan you have amazing patience. And Dani you should have confidence as your first time on camera. You did great
When in Doubt, Both Feet Out!! Fun video, learning to drive a standard transmission. Watch out when stopping on those hills!! Lol!! Cheers!!
Dan, you're a VERY patient teacher!!! Great video!!
Nice job Dani... job well done !!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know Dan,Danni is going to want a 4speed with a healthy 350 in her Opal. Just saying lol. She did superfantastic. Excellent job 👏 👍.
I had a 1970 Red Nova close to the same color as your 57 convertible. I converted it to a 4speed 350. Had a group of us that worked together an virtually everybody had a Nova. You bring back some cool memories with that BA Ride thanks.
