  • I have been using a Grex Tritium TG airbrush for many years without an issue. Lately I have found paint coming out of the side when back flushing. Time to tear it down, show what I use and how I clean my airbrush and work out what the issue is. Spoiler Alert: the packing seal needs replacement.

Very nice tear down and cleaning video! I'm relatively new to airbrushing and bought my 1st one, a Paasche Talon, about a year ago. I wish I had more time to practice with it but only get to use it a few times a month. Since then, I've been intrigued with the gun trigger style airbrushes and wanted to try one of those. I live in the U.S. and want to support U.S. companies, so I bought the Grex TG. I am impressed with it but didn't realize when I bought it how many more parts are in it to potentially keep clean compared to my Paasche. This video helped me feel better about doing a complete tear down when needed. Thank you. Also, I never thought about the synthetic grease. I will look to buy some to have on hand.

Thank you. I am glad to hear that the video was helpful. Most of the time you won't need to tear the airbrush down as far as I did. I have used many different brands and types of airbrush over the years but I personally find the Grex the easiest to use, clean and maintain.

Use an old Paasche needle to fish the packing seal out of your Grex. It's just a little wider than the Grex seal and engages it enough to loosen and remove it with a twist.
With the the right pressure and properly thinned paint, the Grex is fantastic.

Cool, just a reminder: part # A 120016 replaces both # A120004 (packing seal) and #A060002 (O-ring) as one piece. If you got one A few years ago.

Hello! I have a question. My compressor works, but the arrow stands on zero and does not move. It works continuously. It's something related to pressure. The last time I used the compressor a year ago and everything was well. What am I doing wrong? What can be the reason? My compressor is from Grex's company. Thanks

It sounds like the regulator might be the issue. I don't own a Grex compressor so I'm not sure.

Hi! Great video. I’m having a problem with my Grex Tritium. I have a large air leak that is coming from the front air holes surrounding the the fluid nozzle. I did a complete strip down and cleaning. Still leaking air. Pulling on the trigger doesn’t change the air flow. Is it possible the the packing seal that you changed may be the issue? I’ve had the airbrush for about a year and it’s performed flawlessly up until today.
    Thanks, Chris

Thanks. Air is supposed to come out of the holes around the nozzle. If the trigger is not changing the air flow, it is probably an issue with the valve which is located in the handle. It doesn't sound like a packing seal issue to me. You can unscrew the air valve and check to make sure no paint or grime has built up in it to prevent it from working. Apart from that, I am unsure of any other source of the problem.

@@duckplayingchicken thank you! I should have been a little more descriptive. The air was coming out of the front air holes when I wasn’t pulling the trigger. While it was sitting on the a/b holder. I contacted Grex and representative got back to me quickly and he gave me a short list of things to check. One of them was the shift pin. And it was the culprit! There didn’t appear to be any paint in or around the shaft that the shift pin slides through, but the lubricant that they use from the factory had become all gunky and thick. Maybe paint had infiltrated the area? Anyway a god cleaning and the A/B is working perfectly again!
Thanks for your suggestion, you were bang on!

In addition, the rubber seals on the shift pin need to be changed occasionally.

@@homunculous007 I checked them while it was stripped down and they fit tightly on shift pin, and are sealing inside the shaft that it travels in. The a/b is about a year old, so if I use the a/b about 10 hours per month, how long should they last? A couple years?
