    Mr. Townsend, let me say that's by far the longest video I've ever watched. Let me also say I've learned more in these past 3 plus hours than in any 3 years of watching these videos. As far as the placement or mapping goes that's 99% common sense, use what's in front of you to your advantage. But I have come away with a much deeper understanding of the value of layering, going back and putting on some more, touching up and layering again. Not at all like oil painting on canvas where the black or green on your brush goes on as is ! For you to take the time and trouble to make such a video for the education of others is simply astounding. Don't let this go to your head but you do have talent, awesome talent, and you come off as a pretty nice down to earth guy too. Wicked combination. Thank you for the vid and a long and fruitful career to you.

    wow, nice to see an artwork on an automotive (motorbike) job; as most "art" especially airbrushed art is on canvas, tee shirts, cakes, or as illustrations on paper! Great to see the use of airbrushing these projects, as when you say "spray paint a car" in TH-cam, it comes up with flat coating a car in one colour (using a normal or HVLP spray gun)- as in what a crash repairer does when repainting a car.

    when cutting some of your stencils try using a swivel knife, it has a smaller blade and gives you the ability to rotate the blade without hard stick line edges also try using a catapillar stencil for airbrushing, usually you will have to make your own but it gives you a wide range for blending and soft disappearing flow of paint.

    This is definitely the best airbrush tutorial on portraits i have seen out of all the videos i have watched... thank you for explaining everything so clearly from ink preferred airbrush and color mixture to stenciling and the actual step by step airbrushing the portrait.. everyone tries to quickly show you things but they skip so many steps or they time lapse the video and a beginner honestly cant learn to much from a time lapse or a person rushing through the steps.. I really appreciate this video i will subscribe right now please make more tutorials on other aspects like letters color blending and tips for a absolute beginner like me i recently purchased my airbrush and was so excited to airbrush a name and a picture and my letters and everything else looked horrible I couldnt control the consistency of the thickness of lines i would either make them to thin or to thick and if i had to stop and then come back to continue a line i tried to continue the line exactly the same thickness of the part of line I already had and I couldn’t make it look like i never split the line in 2 pieces you can see exactly where i came in and continued the line because I pulled back a little to much on the trigger so it made a circular little splatter so the line was ruined and when im trying to make a name on a shirt some oarts of the letters are a bit faded while other parts are darker and some parts are thiner while others are thicker its a total mess ..please make tutorials for a absolute beginner like me i really appreciate and admire your art.. you are an amazing artist your design looks excellent or whatever word is the highest in category of excellency then thats what your art is .. keep up the magnificent work bro god bless

    Hello
    Only one word, AWESOME. I make models for a hobby, 1 was a 3 Ft 3 In Corvette with over 1,000 pieces, I replaced all the handrails with hand made solid copper soldered ones, And some people say how do I get the patience to do it? It is the only thing I think I can ask you because I couldn't do that. And I do use a Mini Air Gun. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks Ryan, great video, really enjoyed it. Im just starting out and I noticed a lot of artist come back to their white highlights at the end and get "white" highlights, when I do it, I get a color shift. How do you prevent the color shift?

    • @ryantownsend2334
      @ryantownsend2334 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Be very tight with your highlights and control your overspray. Plan for the color shift. The color shift comes from the overspray on top of a different color than the rest of the painting. Use the rules of color theory to push it into the right direction.

    look up some of Charlie Whites or Dave Willardson's techniques. My old airbrush teacher and friend Sol Dember has some books that you might be able to purchase and see how to do a lot of types and techniques in airbrushing. Charlie is considered to be the big grand daddy of airbrushing. Checkout the chrome football that is used in the superbowl ads along with the lips used in the rolling stones logo etc.....their all Charlie's. You can learn a lot from their stuff. Check out papermoon graphics from the '70's. Charlie help start that company with their first airbrush cards. good luck.
