  • With the help of her family and the NCA, Telephone Operator Edmee LeRoux finally received the grave marker she earned as a Soldier in World War I. Although denied Veteran status until 1977, the 223 "Hello Girls" Wore Army uniforms, faced hardships and did their part to protect freedom in World War I. LeRoux faced even greater challenges when, living in France, fled the Nazis before World War II. She then died in 1945 of cancer. For some unknown reason she was interred at Fort Lincoln Cemetery with no marker. May 3, 2024 about 60 people gathered to honor her, and her 222 fellow Soldiers.
Veterans or their spouses can apply for NCA burial benefits and Cem.va.gov. Signing up for pre-need takes 15 minutes and will lift a heavy burden off your loved ones during one of the worst days of their lives.
