  • On Nov. 20, 2024, Tyler Perry, Kerry Washington and Ebony Obsidian came to
Arlington National Cemetery as part of a ‪@theuso‬ visit to honor the legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Battalion,
known as the "Six Triple Eight." This historic, all-Black, all-female unit of the Women's Army Corps served overseas
during World War II, ensuring U.S. service members received long-delayed mail. The visit included a solemn tribute to Maj. Blanche Scott and Master Sgt. Allie Harshaw,
unit members from the 6888th Central Postal Battalion buried at ANC and a Public Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I'm waiting for a movie telling the story of black units during WWII that took part in D Day. I had a rare opportunity to talk to one of those old guys I met when I was stationed in Holland, just out of the blue. This old man described the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan to a T! This was around 1992 and that movie didn't come out until 1998. I wish I could have spent more time with him. But when I came back out of the post office on base he was gone. Like he was a ghost. But I distinctly remember him telling me that he was from the south and decided to stay in Holland because they treated black soldiers like heroes and took care of them and in America black soldiers were being hung. I met that old man while he was setting on the bench outside the post office on Soesterberg AB.

How they came there to get the job done and did so beautifully is wonderful...restoring hope & love to those waiting at home...by way of letters...When your loved one is away for weeks or months and to not get a call or letter is difficult...Just to get word that they are alive & ok is perhaps the best news hoped for.

Wow those ladies are standing tall together in spirit. Bring tears to learn the degradation leading to triumph. Phenomenal class.

Much praise to all those Black American soldier women !!!
I was a cable-dog during Desert Storm... I ran a switch board for our teams. Communicating with family back home was essential for maintaining their morale.
Can't wait to learn more about those incredible women.

Beautiful honoring of these wonderful women, long overdue but their service under oppressive conditions shone and will always shine.
