    The time delay is usually 30-90 seconds. This allows the crew to evacuate the protected space. The time delay time is in the STCW standards.

      another major point is that If CO2 is released from main bottles to the common manifold before opening master valve, there may be difficulty in opening master valve because of the bulk CO2 pressure acting on it. Because of the time delay, positive opening of the master valve is ensured before releasing CO2.

    How to blow through the co2 line with provided arrangement , distribution valve remains shut (how to open it). If want to open alarm will come. Please explain?

    Why we need release co2 bottle without that also we operate main co2 cylinders so what is the purpose of providing that this is my dout sir can you explain me

      Yes you can... But that you will have to operate one by one bank and that's going to take a lot of time... So to prevent the loss of time pilot bottle is given so that all the bottles release at once

    Hi Sir, my doubt is how to ensure 85% of CO2 is released in protected space with in 2 minutes . Also explain the entire concept of 85% ?

      See the pressure gauge..... Suppose 100 baar pressure it is showing initially then after 2 mints it's about show 15 bar I. e 85% has been released... No other reason

      @@nareshlaxkar24 Pressure and volume are not directly proportional so the reading on the pressure guage wont provide exact calculation... The manufacturer himself designs the system in such a way to obtain at least 85% in 2 minutes... Also, After releasing make sure all the required bottles are released to ensure the req is met.

    at the time of engine room fire if two person is missing what should we do, release co2 or not?

      No...first carry out the serch and announce on PA system...After Finding the person only we can release it.

      Then there are procedure... first you need to identify that where these persons went... if you are sure that they are not in engine room...then only you can release co2.

      It is to make sure that the fire has been extinguished in engine room..and all the volume has been calculated as per the volume of engine room.There are formulas based on that this 85% concept here.when you see onboard co2 distribution diagram,you will find for cargo hold there are less number of bottles as per loading condition of cargo hold but when you count the total number of bottles then you will realize that all the bottles will we used for engine room to safeguard the engine room because without engine room the ship can't move on.

      Master valve opens automatically when you open the valve in control cabinet but if in case it fails to open we will open it manually

      @@nareshlaxkar24 sir like all the bottles have been punctured but master valve is not opened by pilot bottle. Then isn't it hard to open master valve as all the bottle pressure is acting on it?

      Its not like that....it will open...2-3. People with the help of F Spanner can open that.... by the way only one person can open...just like main air bottles valve for 30 bar for main engine,only one person can open like that you can open...no issue with that
