Did Drug Cartels Murder Haiti's President? | The War on Drugs
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- In July 2021, gunmen broke into Haiti’s presidential residence and murdered the country’s president with automatic weapons.
This kind of violent assassination is usually associated with military coups and civil wars. But, new evidence has come to light that may indicate this was a drug hit, carried out to protect the interests of cartels with connections deep in the Haitian government itself.
This is the story of how Haiti’s president may have become another casualty of the War on Drugs.

@@JJ-dc9sh To be consumed when they fully mature into adulthood. The biggest market in Asia is Japan, and they are worth a lot, like abalone. The Japanese don't like to buy fully grown eels from overseas, as they prefer to raise them when they are still juvenile. But not only Asia, the Spanish consumes a lot of glass eels in their paella and as far as I know there is currently an export ban by the EU on European eels (Anguilla anguilla). The ones in Haiti are American eels (Anguilla rostrata). Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica) are currently the most highly fetched in terms of price.

The war on drugs is worldwide. It begs the question do we need to look at our drug laws and change them. Maybe we should legalize certain drugs cuz clearly bans won’t work
Bans work in plenty of countries, like China, but you need to have the guts to do what it takes,
US needs to establish their own drug cartel. Well technically the CIA counts but they need to be more assertive and take control of the drug trade from an economic standpoint. Allow HSBC to bank for the cartels but only under certain US restrictions. Slowly start retracting power away from inadequate leaders in the drug trade. Strengthen government power over drugs. Repeat. We need better leadership in this legitimate trade.
@@tubester4567 not really, in countries like china you would get death penalty, and even so ppl still traffic with drugs, at a much smaller scale but even with the death penalty it happens
@@nicho125 But there is huge difference in numbers. Only a few brave souls dare to try it in Asia, and the few that do, have to be very careful where/how they sell it. In the west, nobody fears the law, many thousands of people try it, they will stand on the streets and sell to strangers. In the west around 10%+ try it, in China its like 0.1%. That means there are much fewer people exposed to drugs in China and they are much harder to come by.
Things getting out of hand in Haiti 🇭🇹
Ya think ?
Mind your own business, anyone who can read history knows the very people who cause chaos in the country, change uniform and then claim to be heros.
I’m glad Haiti got rid of the p dough so called ‘charity workers’ or ‘missionaries’ because they did more damage than any other people! Demonic Red Devils! Trying soo hard to bring a nation down!
This series by vice is extremely insightful and informative. I have a question though, it’s regarding whether or not the “war on drugs” is better resolved through government or individuals? What I mean by this is that vice did documentaries on Portugal and it’s drug epidemic that was completely rampant. Then after the government legalized drug use, violence, overdose and deaths declined. It’s was sort in a sense liberating where the government was hands free, but when you look at the cartels in Mexico there basically untouched by the government and regular individuals are always in the line of fire in violence, deaths and danger. So what really is the best approach to the “war on drugs” ?
REALLY good question , that we need an answer too !!!!!
I'd say while there are drug markets all over the world the place to start would be to legalize/decriminalize/regulate/ the biggest and most expensive markets - the US and Europe - moving the manufacturing into government-run farms/labs. If you take the massive profits away the criminal groups lose all of their power very quickly. No profit to be made = no incentive for drug cartels. It really is that simple.
@Bone Thug You're just not smart enough to understand any of it 😂
Look at the Prohibition Era in the US during the early 1900s. Full-scale legalization with domestic production is the only answer. That's how you take away the power from the cartels; when you don't need to buy from them anymore, they have no power.
There really is no "war on drugs" in the US, The US is too soft and tolerant they dont have what it takes. There are countries around the world that eliminated drug problems. Mainly in Asia, like China. They dont play around, drug dealers are executed. People will say thats cruel, but when you consider the millions of deaths from drugs, and the destruction of society, then executing a few hundred dealers is less cruel. Its more cruel to allow it to continue and destroy your society.
Who else remembered the human spit roast in Narcos when they mentioned 'barbecue' Cherizier? I shudder to think why 'Barbecue' is his middle name. Oh they say later. Damn.
When that lady at the end said "We'd like to congratulate drugs for winning the war on drugs", I felt that😔😔😔

In order to judge the ethics and operations of a country whose politics are steeped with corruption and integration with organized crime and the black markets you have to step back and understand the actual rules of the system at play. They clearly aren't engaging in democracy in its purest form, the rules and ethics at play that actually determine outcomes are hard to truly grasp as outsiders, and there are so many outside elements at play that many in other countries would probably have a hard time understanding beyond, "it's obviously a complicated situation with no quick and easy solutions." In some of these places, not Haiti specifically, you tend to see one brutal, corrupt, dictator replaced with another and the cycle just repeats itself. In many of these places, organized crime closely resembles governments. The lines differentiating the two get blurred rather quickly and the people find themselves siding with those who are either least likely to cause suffering and death or those that provide support and care regardless of ties to corruption or violent activity.
It's funny that many in first world countries describe voting for their nation's leader as "picking the lesser of two evils" whereas the situation in countries with much less rule of law and democracy takes this to a place that would motivate most people living in industrialized democracies to be much more grateful for what they have.

Netflix's Narcos continues as we speak. Damn!
I don't think all this is possible without a blind eye being turned by the U.S. Just how did they know Moise was compiling a list; could it be he told some trusted foreign diplomat who told someone in the DEA who told someone else to deal with it? It got dealt with.
Now you get it! Clinton’s are responsible for a lot of this
America got a hand in everything that goes on around the world
The video literally mentions that he had spies in his own protection detail. I'd look there first.
If by "drug cartels" you mean the DEA/CIA yes
Correct
The president was a puppet of the US. He needed to go? - yes, did the way he was dealt with was good? - no
@@tomaszzalewski4541 He WAS a puppet, at one point. But as soon as he made it known he was going to crack down, that's when they took him out
@@03stmlax sure.
@@03stmlax any proof?
your god damn right it will keep flowing
What a chaos-filled country is that! May God help its helpless people
I remember when you guys were just a magazine...good times
Big love to Haiti
One day everything going to get better ❤️❤️
They shot the corrupt president. It's a start
Just imagine how much problems would be gone if we let drugs be legal & affrodable for users and regulate it
Yea then we would see nonthing but zombies on the street
@@fncsrugrat4x296 actually most pplz on the streets are puppets/zombies..
@@abrockkalypse exactly and if they made these drugs legal and affordable then there would be more zombies walking around
@@henri3221 same thing with guns. If you want it you can get one.
@@fncsrugrat4x296 is the same dude
This explains a lot from another perspective.
It explains nothing. That bullshit story is full of holes.
Well done 👏
Nice job to the young men at the end. Defending their homes. What he said was true, if the gov can't do their job we'll defend the street
Ye but there will be 30 other groups with that idea similar in mind but might have way more differences . Its that saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend, as soon as the group they want gone is gone all them groups will want to be in charge hence a civil war with loads of groups claiming power all over again
Also let's say they get a new government in, they don't do what America says or rhe cartels then the new gov is killed then it repeats all over again
Well there were cases of "defense" groups in mexico fighting against cartels... then turn into a cartel themselves
@Bozza YUP! You are exactly right. I'd be willing to wager that's exactly what will happen but it's obvious to anyone who pays any attention to history.
the US definitely had a hand in this
no
It is true.
@Marek Cracovia no governor' but guys for us can be yes
Sounds like the President shouldn't have been there in the first place 🤔
Great journalism
Make vice great again!
Its crazy how gangs are just walking the streets with assault rifles
Jamaica 🇯🇲
that's a big chunk of south america and africa you just described
Come to central México, will show you
@@aztekempire thats bullshit. I lived in central and north mexico (puebla, cdmx and Monterrey) and never saw anyone walking openly with guns except the polices and marinas. Your lying.
@@aztekempire why do you want to make your own country seem dangerous?
