Not gonna lie, that was some very cleaver editing putting Scotty and that "season 1" Admiral (I forget his name) in a conversation like that. Very well done! Also, I like that Scotty was included in the Excalibur's design. Sure, he was an "old head", but the man was smart as a whip so I imagine he had little trouble absorbing the new technology concepts into his cranium.
I haven’t forgotten the Excalibur! It was the ship that convinced me to pre-order STO, the ship skin my T6 Temporal Light Cruiser has worn since the day I unpacked it, and the only ship I repeatedly wrote to Eaglemoss to request. I really hope Fanhome makes one to celebrate STO!
I was in love with the Excalibur Class for the longest time. I remember it being the flagship for STO, shown in all the ads and promotional material. As one of many constitution redesigns, its one of my favs. It wasn't until i upgraded my ship that i realized how small it looked next to me on STO.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I remember the early game in those days gave up a Saber as our first ship and I worked hard to get my next command as a Excalibur. Ah a new cadet made captain due to Borg attacking. These days my girl the "Command Battlecruiser" is all that i need now. I got all the parts to design my own custom ship that has elements of the Excalibur and Excelsior, while most like DPS builds, i love tank/support builds.
I want you to know that your sunny disposition and commitment to your brand of wit is appreciated greatly, especially during a time when the news in the real world has become so dire. I'm quite sure that I'm not alone in this sentiment as well. My best wishes to you and yours as we move into an uncertain future.
What I absolutely adore about this is that it feeds that part of my fandom of wanting to know the details of things like federation (and other species/nations) infrastructure and day-to-day operational roles that this class fits the need for
I can see production of the Exacilbur class continuing with those further afield within Federation Territory, it was probably cheaper to build and its heritage would make it popular amongst new shipbuilding member worlds.
Speaking of Montgomery Scott, his appearance in the 1701D was, I thought, a very clever aligory about gasoline engines. In the episode Dyson Sphere, Scotty steps on Laforge's toes regarding the warp core's temperature; it was too hot and on the verge of a meltdown, until Laforge explains that the core was designed to operate at that temperature. FF a couple of decades, Im watching a forensic files where a man was nearly convinced of arson, until they found lead particles in the gasoline accelerant. This proved the man innocent because there was no leaded gasoline in the area for some time. It had been used as a solvent by the original builders decades ago. What does that have to do with Star Trek? Well, lead is primarily used as a radiation inhibitor, most commonly heat, so they used to put lead in gasoline to help absorb heat, keeping engine temperature cooler. However, modern gasoline is unleaded because modern combustion engines can operate at higher temperatures. So, in the 1960s (OS Star Trek era) most cars used leaded gasoline. By the 90s (STNG era), leaded gasoline was virtually phased out. Scotty's alarm over engine temperatures (whether intentional or not) I thought was a very clever aligory for leaded gasoline between the 2 eras. My compliments to the writers.
In my head cannon, after my beloved pioneer cruiser had been destroyed I was asked by the temporal time admiral to pick a new ship….that ship was this and while fighting the onslaught of the Terran Empire fleet this ship served me well. Thanks.
It's a shame some of the early ships weren't scalable for a long time. Good to see some lore on some of the forgotten ships. Thsnk you. Btw, did you ever cover the Exeter Class?
Its not a bad looking ship. for me the neck needs adjusting as the proportions seem off ( as per the Sovereign underside I think it needs some supports reaching up to compliment its swoop) . The secondary hull lines also I feel need a bit more "meat-on-the-bones". The nacelle supports need tweak too imo. However the space frame over all has a good look
They should make a new Star Trek series with Picard son in command of one of these Star ships after all he said he was a connie refit kind of guy . They could CG Scotty into the first mission chatting with him on his first mission as a friend of the family
I think that some of the SNW enterprise design was taken by this Excalibur design. With the way the impulse engines are placed and the rear of the secondary hull where the main shuttle bay looked very similar
I sincerely love the Excalibur class. I feel like as a design it had so much potential. Your fanfic of the class's development and history does it so much justice.
Just out of curiosity, have you ever done a video on the Decatur/Belknap class tactical cruiser? I have Starship Design Volume XXXiV number one, and it's a featured ship there
I wonder if that now means we will see the other connie variants of sto getting videos i want to see how you would fit the vesper and exeter on cannon.
If you hear a heavy cruiser version of the Sovereign Class that uses the design of this ship as a base, can anyone estimate how long, width and height this ship would be?
Sir I have a idea for Section 31 ship in between inspired by the Crossfield to honor the USS Discovery I dub the Aegis class plus later Aegis Mark II with everything
Does anybody else here ever feel a twinge of sympathy for the actress who played Cmdr. Shelby owing to the hair's breadth she came to being a series regular on TNG right before it reached its golden age? I know that if it had been me, this fact alone would've driven me to a substantial amount of sad-drinking thereafter.
Wasnt an idea behind this design that it was a way too powerful warp core for its design so it cord devert power to weapons or shields etc really fast?
I like what you've done but I think you could have Incorporated some parts of the Constitution 3 or Neo Constitution near the end of the video with this vessel being an inspiration and stepping off point to reinvent the Constitution class into the Neo Constitution or AKA Constitution Mark 3 due to its design I think that could have easily worked for the Excalibur history
No, because this class had nothing to do with the Connie III, so why would I lie? There's a difference between altering dates to conform with canon, and completely making up the story that already exists...
Wtf even is a retrofit anymore? I refit my bowl of cereal with milk. I refit my head with a haircut. I refit my spouse when they got lippy. I refit my face when i put the skin off someone elses face on my own face. Like...wut?
What if i tie a string from the guitar to a chair? Is a chair a retrofit? Im just playing. But im right tho. But also, your vids are great and ive ben here for years. Since ive got ur attention- great work and thank you@@TriAngulumAudioStudios
Well no, you're actually not right at all lol As you have not listed a single item that is a component or accessory to the ship itself! Things attached directly to the ship IE Phaser Banks, the Warp Core etc... Chairs are not considered either as they are not integral to the ship or its operations. Rather they are an addition! 😜😜😜 And thank you very much! Lol I enjoyed this funny banter lol Your face... lol

Who needs a Neo-Constitution when you have this beauty!
I've always been a fan of Star Trek's small & quirky ships.
so this is one of these ships who came in for a refit and came out all sovereign class
Lol indeed! Lol
This and the Noble class, the poster children for STO in it's earliest days!
The Excalibur Class will have its day. keep bringing great videos like this to fans of this channel.
very nice Truth OR Myth Beta. like this video
Many many thanks Dom :)
One of the unsung hero classes out there:)
TBH, the Sovereign is a tough act to follow. And lots of great Sov beauty shots here too!
I remember this well due to that great STO artwork.
This was a fun episode. I gotta say I do dig the design of this ship. The lore for the ship was interesting too.
Nice and epic ship I think the Terran Rebellion could build this ship to augment its Defiant class Battle Frigates
I’ve always enjoyed the Excalibur Class in Star Trek Online mixing Vespers and Consitution Class Mk 2 parts. Making my own kitbash
Lovely ship. I want one.
Speaking of STO. What I’ve sometimes done is put the Nacelles of the Excalibur class onto a Constitution II. Lovely ship, the Excalibur.
Fantastic video really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it

excalibur and exeter are my favorite connie updates. looking forward to the eventual coverage of the latter.
Wait you were a STO beta tester that’s pretty cool and great story for the Excalibur
Yes I was... the good old days... lol
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios yup simpler days
I prefer this class over the one we got from picard
A lovely ship ❤
Indeed!
One of my favourite ships in the early days of STO

God bless the constitution linage

It wasn't, it was merely it's own evolution of the TOS design!
I love your videos !! 👌🏻
Awwwwww, thank you very much!
I read that Scotty included a bowling alley in his original design but Starfleet Command vetoed it.
I like this ship already
I was a beta tester also and still play 😂!
Captain Calhoun's ship!
Calhoun's ship was an Ambassador-class heavy cruiser and her replacement was a Galaxy-class.

This is the first time I’ve seen this class. I like it. The pylons aren’t my favorite, but they’re OK.
I sincerely love the Excalibur class. I feel like as a design it had so much potential. Your fanfic of the class's development and history does it so much justice.
Its not fanfic, it's Beta Canon with date changes to conform with canon!
Will there be a Exeter-class?
Eventually!

I don't think captain Freeman would approve of this class
LOL
The only thing that bothers me is that in my opinion the secondary Hull looks a bit small compared to the rest of the ship.
Is there a Montgomery Scott class?

All good :)
What about the Vesper of the Ambassador era?
What about it?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios it's forgotten and should be remembered. Especially when it's an early sto ship.

Not of my favorites, however has an innegable Constitution class look.
Make the secondary hall a bit bigger in whip move the nasal's back forward a bit and the ship would have been a lot more sleeker..
Well as its a STO design, you need to talk to them about that, not me! Personally, I think it's great as is!
I may be getting it wrong but shouldn't this design be based on a ship captained by Mackenzie Calhoun?
No, that is incorrect
it is a nice ship. but. it looks like the impulse engines are pointed at the warp nacelles. fix that and it would be perfect
Uhmmm this is a STO ship, like the intro said... So any changes, direct it at them, not me!
Hella lot better looking than the🤢 G 🤢
Meh, not overly impressive.

Interesting design... a bit on the small side for the era.
No it isnt, see Saber, Defiant, Nova, Intrepid etc etc
I would’ve loved to see the Excalibur class in Picard. Sadly that show was just wasted potential.
No it wasn't... Just because you didn't care for it, doesnt make it's potential wasted... You should learn to think in ways that are not so selfish!
What an awful ship. The designer just downloaded pictures of all previous trek hero ships and pressed the remix button!
100% Disagree!
Does the captain have to remove the ship from a stone?
Lol, how'd you guess? Lol
@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics it was either that or some bint in a puddle would hand it out....
@@yodaslovetoy They thought of that, but they were afraid the Federation Citizens would start yelling about the violence inherent in the system.
