- In today's video of Truth OR Myth, we're taking a look at the Beta Canon Design History on the Defiant Class to better understand this starships place in Star Trek's History... This is not a definitive listing of all Beta Canon Info out there in the Star Trek universe, rather, a combination of the facts that make sense, along with my own imagination thrown in to fill in the gaps... One of my favorite scenes featuring the Defiant was in "The Die is Cast" when it was blowing away those Dominion attack ships while rescuing Odo and Garak. No wonder it was nicknamed "Sisko's Fist." 🖖😎👍

The class that shows humans can still wake up and choose violence, we choose not to. I think it's why it's one if my favorite ships outside the D, a powerful reminder that the shield barerer often carries a nasty sword.
Tangent, the whole series is an amazing show on the nature of what it is to be human when the world is inhumane and it's easily become one of my favorites, and all started out with a love of a little ship that could.

The requirement for the ship was anti Borg. But this lends itself to most other fighting requirements. This the ship was just purely function. They were expected to be built en mass to fight the Borg being cheaper in terms of production and all importantly crew.
They were very powerful and packed the punch of a far larger ship.
As with any fleet you need some of these but not in vas5 numbers, until it’s war time!

Good morning my goog tri-nary. The U.S.S. Defiant is a tough little ship and can hold its own against just about anything. That was proven during the Dominion war and now has it's proper place at the Fleet museum and Star fleet history.

“Vulcan has no moon.” 😀 I always imagine the development of a kind of super carrier that could dock and warp a squadron of Defiant class ships to battlefronts. They could also rearm and repair the smaller vessels and get them back into the fight quicker.
Or just enlarge Defiant size into Mobile Carrier Outpost Starship with code NX-85808 USS Typhon to carrying Valkyries fighter

Love this, great job. im actually going at an old AMT Ertl model kit of one again (had the OG one with premixed paints in the late 90s), and it's one of my favorite ships (she was a gift from a cousin of mine who knew of my fondness for DS9 and that ship). She's a nice general purpose warship, and contrary to some fans believing crap they had a nice few of them being made at UP if they had cadets crewing one ffs lol.
Worf loved it. Good enough for me.

Loved the Defiant in Deep Space 9. Even though the United Federation of Plants had a treaty with The Romulans, not to produce any cloaked ships. I wouldn't have agreed to it and developed our own class of Star Fleet's cloaked ships. Thanks for the video.

I flew this ship for MONTHS in Star Trek Online, but it was erased in a patch bug.
The USS BELLEAU WOOD NCC-611917 was manned by a crew sporting the colors of the Starfleet MARINE CORPS.
I would finish a patrol in her and declare, "Sector Marine Corps entirely."

this kind of smallish ships it's the solution at the useless fighters problem like the peregrine in star trek, a small but still a true ship agile and powerful enough to not be one shotted
Every star base having two defiant class starships stationed with them on a permanent basis with permanent birthings for six more, making every star base a potential war hub if and when necessary, in addition every star base to have two intrepid class starships, with permanent birthings for two more, again making every star base a permanent mobile hub not only for defense but for exploration. Defiant & intrepid a core force of Starfleet and the federation.
When would the Defiant Class be considered obsolete? We know that Starfleet designed and used ships for a long time, but time does march on. So is the Defiant Class still a "Tough little ship" by the timeline at the end of Picard Season 3?

Ah, Starfleet's first pure warship, the Defiant Class. Perhaps, at some future time, you would consider covering Starfleet's other first pure warship, the Ares Class.
The Ares is nothing but a fan fiction design, therefore it is not Starfleet's first anything... And given the issues surrounding Peters and what he did to the Trek Community, the Ares has no place in Trek at all!

No it's not, its a boring, obvious fan design that again has no place in Trek thanks to the debacle it's "owner" caused... So it will never be profiled here, especially given the majority of fandom feel the same way I do!

I feel like, in universe, a VERY pissed Sisko started the project by looking at the NX-01, and said, "When fighting the Borg, we can't rely on our shields. So, let's go back to the beginning, to ships that survived without shields. We build from there."
He distilled the standard Starfleet template to something purely tactical, all the better to punch the Borg in their cyborg faces and make them wet their circuits, and made it small and hard to hit, as well as well-armored and VERY well armed.
He almost called it the "USS Ben Sisko's MFing Pimp Hand," with which Starfleet agreed, but had to reject due to the name being too long. Legend has it that Commander Shelby giggled a little, and pitied the poor Cube that was on the wrong end of this class.

@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics To my Knowlege, the Federation was having a NO-Warships Policy up to a Point in Time and even after that had actual Warships with Classifications that label them as NOT-Warships and the Defiant was somewhere within that Time, if I remember corretly.

Wasn't part of the Defiants issues that it was difficult to manufacture due to its warp core being so complicated. Which is why Starfleet didn't have many of them, even during the Dominion War when Starfleet pumped out as many combat ships as they could.
Otherwise Starfleet would have had entire wings of them.
In fact they should have been producing updated versions of them after Utopia Planita was destroyed, as it didn't need large shipyards.
In _Picard,_ if Starfleet needed to suddenly strengthen their fleet after their biggest shipyards were destroyed, while not using a lot of personnel, the Defiant class mark 2 would be very appropriate.
No... There was no such issue for the Defiant Class!

They should have been mass producing Defiants and made them the backbone of the war effort.
And then afterwards, have them assigned to every planet and colony.
Being landing capable, they could even sit on a landing pad or in a bunker, and then far flung Federation colonies wouldn't keep being attacked by opportunistic raiders.
And requiring the nearest Starfleet ship to rush to their aid, after the fact.
And of course, they could _escort_ every large multirole ship operating away from the safety of the core Federation systems, with the larger ship providing any needed amenities that the Defiants lacked, such as a full sickbay.
Starfleet should have used them as the Federation Bird of Prey.
There's actually nothing to say that they didn't... In fact, canon supports that they did with the episode Valiant, as a Defiant class vessel was given to the Academy as a Training vessel for cadets...

But what I hear a lot it . The X- class several times in a couple of sentences. Now we know what ship your on about but . That's all I hear and can't focus on your script
And with respect back... That sounds more like a "you" problem rather than a script problem... You see, out of over 100000 comments, only you have made this complaint... Most people who watch documentaries know that this is a standard technique when it comes to scripting for that genre! Hope you can work out your issue, and continue to enjoy the channel, take care!
I think I liked the original video on the Defiant better, it had more detail and a better background song perhaps you should remake this again changing the music to something less heavy metal and re-adding the technical and historical knowledge you had in the previous video as well as the new information put forth in this video, or better yet make a 2 part video using the information detail from both this and the old video with the first part starting at the same place as this video but ending with the part about the ship going into mothballs but not for long as the cliffhanger into part 2 which starts off about the dominion the work done on fixing the ships technical issues and going on with the role it played during the dominion war end with its successor being put in the fleet museum maybe extending on what notions in starship designs would result from it creation, just food for thought
Well you can't please everyone... In fact, those (like yourself) with a thoughtful response about their dislikes always fascinate me. Everyone else loves the new video, with several comments about the great music choice. Also, the information in this video is more extensive than in the original, cutting out the rambling rather than the info! So in this case, I think it's simply your own personal preference rather than an issue with the video itself. And as such, this will be the video going forward... For the next couple of years at least, there will be no new video made on this class.
@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics OK I'm just saying that if you approach the video and those to come like a story you will find that what you call rambling can make for a better narrative, also if you remake the video on the constitution class prime timeline or kelvin timeline then you may want to get a consensus on what people will want before you make it and I think what you call rambling is just depth and in Star Trek in general Depth is important since it tends to make the show more watchable especially if it creates a more complex and creative story
Again, that's all your personal preference, rather than an actual problem with the video or constructive criticism. You want a story, whereas, the majority on this channel want a documentary... That's the difference, and this channel will continue to operate as normal, updating the videos as I see fit... Thanks again, take care!

Don't put anything from Star Trek Picard in your videos
Literally, Star Trek discovery and Picard are horrible Star Trek and should never be mentioned at all with old track
Star Trek Picard and Discovery ARE canon, and as such will continue to be put in these videos.
Literally, how you personally feel about these shows is meaningless. My advice, build a bridge and get over it.
