    This was my first PSX game. I have nothing but a warm feeling for the original Tekken. It was very impressive for a 1994 arcade game and even more impressive for a 1995 console game. Not to mention Galaga! It's the little things that count.

    When I first time played Tekken I've already have played Tekken 2 & 3, so it wasn't the best experience.
    However, I did enjoy playing it, as I'm a fan of the Tekken series.
    It's still a fun fighting game even though it's somewhat basic compared to the sequels.
    Now, these days I'm a happy owner of many Tekken games.

    The way I got Heihachi as a kid was by setting it to one round and using King. He has a set of low kicks, three in a row that stagger the enemy and leave them open for more. I'd get them into a loop and just cheese that one move. Took a few attempts but got it in the end.
    When I finaly did it I had to leave my PlayStation turned on for about 30 hours until I got a memory card and could save Heihachi and finaly turn the console off.
    Never could do Galaga for the Devil outfit tho 😢

    I started with tekken 2 at the arcade and ended up buying this one two months before tekken 2 launched on the console to hold me over.
    It feels like a beta to the tekken series.

    It's a good video, but you can get the music from the arcade version on the ps1 version. You need to go into the options menu and you will see bgm select. You will see that it has been set to "arrange". Change it to "original" to get the arcade music. The same also applies in Tekken 2 and 3.
    You can change the difficulty in Tekken 5's arcade history. You need to hold select and you will be able to adjust settings. I think you need to use the square button to select options instead of X.

    • @GFrom
      @GFrom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought I mentioned that you can listen to the arcade music on PlayStation. Maybe I said it in my Tekken 2 Review, I don't remember.
      In my Tekken 2 Review I talk about how I finally figured out that you can change the difficulty.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching! :)

    I'll say this about the original Tekken: one thing I thought that it did have going for it was a sense of mystery and foreboding. The real-world stages had an uncanny valley feel to them as well, coupled with the soundtracks, which gave them their own individual character.
    The Monument Valley stage, in particular, brought all that to the fore. Windermere too, but that's mainly because I'm English and have holidayed in the Lake District! 😁

    Are you in the PAL region? The PAL port of Tekken was criticized for its slower gameplay and lag.
    The US and NTSC-J versions run the exact same as the arcade.
    Sorry about that. The ps1 port is more responsive in the other regions. PAL got hit HARD

    • @GFrom
      @GFrom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I am. Oh I wasn't aware of that. On the Mega Drive I was used to the slower gameplay, but I didn't know we got screwed on the PlayStation as well. Thanks for letting me know!

      @@GFrom It's true. Until somewhere in the PS2-Era, most European games ran at 50Hz compared to 60Hz, about 17,5% slower than its US and Japanese counterparts. That's why the Arcade version of TEKKEN you find on Tekken 5 runs faster; it's because you have to run that (and the Arcade versions of TEKKEN 2 and TEKKEN 3 on there) in 60Hz Mode.
      Also, did you know there is a fourth game for you to unlock in the Arcade History in Tekken 5? It's called Star Blade. If you want to unlock it, do this:
      You have to unlock Star Blade from Devil Within game mode. Go to the first room in Stage 4-2, there is a breakable wall underneath the higher ledge. Transform to Devil Jin and press L1+Square to blast at the wall.
      There will be some tiles appear after the wall is destroyed. Jump over the tiles and move on to the next room. There will be a spaceship from Star Blade in the middle of the room. Collect it and continue to beat Stage 4 to unlock Star Blade.

    • @GFrom

      @@dynastymusou8906 It's a common problem for refresh rate conversions. Many games built to run at 50hz were way too fast in 60hz regions, assuming the reduced vBlank meant they could even run. (cough cough Elite NES)

    Remember that we came from the SNES/ MegaDrive(Genesis) to this game. Tekken 3 didn't exist then so we wasn't comparing it to that. It's like GTA 3, they needed that foundation so the developers could master the hardware

    I totally disagree. I still enjoy Tekken one and although the graphics are dated they were great at that time. If you are gonna compare it to Tekken 3 or anything after Tekken 3 of course it wont hold up. I still like Tekken 2 the best. Definitely slow compared to 3 and graphics aren't as smooth as 3 but the characters and level atmosphere design were the best in my opinion.
