There's been scuttlebutt they may not want to demossion the B-1B's. The B-1R concept came out years ago, but there's been some reviews of this idea recently. They may in fact do a reconditioning with updated avionics, an onboard area denial weapons station (arsenal ship). Along with this refit, updated LO engine pods with F-135 engines.
Ideas for scenarios: could 2020s Sweden defend from Russian strike? Could 2020s RAF defend against biggest German bombing raid from ww2? Could 2020s 10 RAAF F18 super hornets or F35As (replacing 10 F2A buffalos from 453 Squadron) defend HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales, against Japanese air attack off the coast of Malaya, north west of Singapore by 88 aircraft? I would love to see these, I don't think any of these simulations are unfeasable and would be enjoyable to watch. Could use Falklands/middle East for sweden vs Russia, would be cool to see some viggen too :). Could use channel for german bombing raid and Falklands/channel/ middle East maps for the battle of Malaya. Hope these give you a few fun ideas and help you sleep better at night. Thank you for putting so much effort in and I hope the baby gets easier to manage :)
I gotta say, it might be sad for you guys to miss on that perfect mission but for us Viewertons, this was very exciting, especially the end when it nearly turned into a nail biter kind of suspense with that one Flanker causing all kinds of trouble! The Bomber performing its job well but then suffering some kind of "malfunction" (yes I know its the dumb AI but there are unexpected difficulties arising in real life too, so the AI basically "emulates" the Factor X that can happen in real life), the necessary adaptation of tactics to the changed parameters, the successful "by the book" bombing run including shooting down a Flanker right when its airborne and finally the last hostile causing all kinds of trouble and even causing tragic losses (you will be remembered as heroes boys) and the final push towards the safety of home....this is the stuff movies are made off!
Here, I thought I was coming up with a new idea suggesting a B-52 refitted as an AWACS with tons of long-range air-to-air missiles to clear air space, and they had already tested it. Thanks for the enlightenment and entertainment. I'm glad to see the idea was actually feasible.
Cap, I have a cunning plan... Re-do the mission, with 2 Bone-R's and get your pilots to hit: Aircraft flight 1 (so first two AC in the flight of 6 (or however many you have flying) AC, assuming Runway Left and Right being hit by consequtive AC) hit first third of runway, AC 2 second third, and last 2 AC final third of runway, damaging all of it. I noticed that although all got their bombs down on the runway, it looked at one point like all hit the start of each runway. Great mission though, enjoyed that one.

Would be interesting to flip this round and see how much easier/more effective it is to run a more conventional lineup. Boner could definitely carry enough bombs to take out the 2 runways. Then have 6 of the F15's running pure CAP loads (pref 260s but could also be interesting to see if the F15 can get it done with 120s) and 2 F15s and the F16 running CAP/SEAD. Also means youre less likely to have boner go full pants on head and kill himself halfway through the mission
There have been cases where the escort fighter outweighed the bombers it was escorting, such as the Bf 110 vs. the Ju 87. There was also the YB-40 - a B-17 converted into an escort gunship for other B-17s. It outweighed (and struggled to keep up with) the bombers even before they dropped bombs.

So I've not heard of an instance where a bomber escorted a fighter, but this scenario reminds me of the story of "Old 666" a B17 setup for recon. It was was on its own when it was intercepted by 17 Japanese fighters. After 45 minutes the Japanese had to abort due to fuel and Old 666 made it back to base while completing its mission. There was an episode of History channel's Dogfights that featured this story.
the soviets/russians had a version of this concept funny enough, called the Tu-160p (or Tu-161 depending on where you searched) which would carry an A2A radar and 12 r-33s internallly

Hey cap, can you maybe make and or adapt a panavia tornado gr1, gr4, and f3/ADV set of mods. I think it would be cool because it has been the RAF’s main strike aircraft till recently and you could also do gulf war re-enactments with the gr1 and then the jp233 runway busting munitions

Well, disregard, no idea where you would find Snake Eyes, but those were them. Of course you dropped well above the allowable airspeed and would have ripped the fins right off.
Considering how much the US spends on secret military projects and the creative ways that budgeting can be done. For example, turning projects over to private companies to keep things off the books. Then suddenly there are cost overruns on one project that is actually on the books. The "cost overruns" actually fund another "privately funded secret project." I have no doubt that there is at least one possibly two B-1Rs prototypes in existence. Look at the project costs for F-35 project, it will eventually cost somewhere near $2 trillion when all is said and done. How hard would it be to move a few billion dollars from the f-35 project to the gen 6 aircraft project to advance that project much more quickly then would normally occur?
I really wish your B-1R model was human controllable. It seem that every time you feature the B-1R the AI turns in to Joe "Babbling" Biden and loses the script. As an Bot controlled asset, perhaps, you should've sent the F-15E ahead (because the F-16C was never going to even match the B-1R speed), with the Boner on "overwatch". Sadly, because of the AI failure the answer to your video's title is "No!".
