    This doesn’t last. In my trade as a carpenter boron which is basically the same as borax, is only a topical treatment for internal use only. Rain washes it off. This is handy man work. Do it properly, if your decking is rotting, replace it with pressure treated decking. Galv or stainless fixings. Then treat your timber with a decking oil so it penetrates the timber. Coat every year or two. Make sure you have 3-5mm spacings in the wet season and your good to go. Don’t just listen to handy men and get your info from them. Do what the pros do. My 2 cents worth

      When you re-coat, how do you prep the deck/surface? Or do you just blow/sweep off debris and then apply?

      @@coppulor6500 either a deck wash solution and scrub it down. Or gentle water blast. Let it dry and oil some more

      @@stevec5192 I really appreciate the response. What product(s) do you like for decking oil? Also, I'm assuming you mean an actual oil and not just a generic term? If so, do you need to put something under the deck if there's a patio to prevent staining? Thank you!

      I only do it before I stain the wood to kill and protect the wood from mold. Basically every 5 years or so.

    what if the deck already has a solid stain applied, would this still provide the same protection ??

    • @josephk9182
      @josephk9182  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No. The way it works is the Borax substance absorbed into the wood. The wood then dry the water evaporates but the Borax salt stay in the wood. When the wood already stained it will be difficult for the wood to absorb the Borax substance.

    Hello. Thank you so much for sharing the information.
    Can I use borax on not stripped deck? I'm waiting for someone to fix the stability of my deck built last year (light oil stained) at the house I recently bought. After the fixing, I will strip and stain. I'm getting tired to see little things running around on my wood. Thanks in advance.

    • @josephk9182
      @josephk9182  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can. When you stain the wood make sure the wood is dry.

      As soon as I got your reply, I went out cleaning and giving a borax treatment to my deck. Very small insects (like half millimeter size) were running all around and I was desperate until I found your channel. Thousand thanks and wishing you the best.

    Does your Borax treatment kill surrounding vegetation like grass or ivy?

    Great info very interesting and easy indeed. Is the the same if I use Borax (much cheaper) versus Copper Green? How many years do you think Borax can protect?
    If this is truly effective, then your video should go viral imo.
    We should have know about how to treat wood and annually inspect our home for terminate, dry rot etc. I did not do everything and now I found termite damage on fascia, rafters that will cost 1-2k to repair, and might need fumigation sooner or later at more money.
    What other products or method to treat wood that was already painted?
    What are other products to treat wood before painting can I use as I have to repair/replace my fascia, rafters and exterior wood on my home?
    I guess you won't need borax if you have pressure treated wood right?

    • @josephk9182
      @josephk9182  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before pressure treated they industry used borax. Borax is more expensive and slow than pressure treated with copper.
      You can only treated naked wood (no paint or stain ) with borax.
      No need borax when the wood is already treated with cooper.

      Joseph K I don’t think it’s possible but can you treat wood that had been painted already?

    • @josephk9182
      @josephk9182  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the wood was painted properly it would not be penetrated by termites. The wood probably has spots in which the paint is faded or gone during the years, so if you able to put borax in these spots you will be successful treat the wood against termites.
