It's not a bad exercise. The major problem is that your average gym goers are so chest focused and neglect their upper back strength and shoulder mobility/stabilization to the point where they're very disproportionate and this exercise will accentuate their imbalance. The other reason is because you can overload on the exercise without realizing you're hurting yourself until you discover you can barely move your arm the next day. A proper progression in increasing the weight is necessary if you've never done it before.

Been doing Bradford presses... but now I'm considering adding simply behind the neck presses to help out too. but there is so much controversy around it
Just curious, but no way the guy in the black hat has real traps. They're over exaggerated and does not look proportional. But still very fit and great info all around.
I’m gonna start implementing these again😳…whenever I do front military presses, my front delt gets compromised too much. Behind the neck, I get a more overall shoulder pump.
Really good information! I think I applied these same basic principles to the barbell bench press and particularly a wider grip barbell bench press. I am 55 now and competed in drug free powerlifting (ADFPA) from 1987-1991. I didn't train for years but started training again for health in my early 40s. All I did was dumbbells for years because of mobility, range of motion, shoulders, etc After covid I started getting a home gym and more serious. I began experimenting with a barbell and it's bench variations using only the bar. I couldn't touch the bar to my chest at first but I kept practicing and slowly adding weight. I hear all these people say not to bench too wide because it's bad on the shoulders but I am benching wide just fine at 55 with no problems after benching really heavy for years as a young man. Mind you I couldn't get the bar to my chest when I began. I apply the same principles you guys were explaining in these video and now I may start overhead pressing too.
Yes, Press From Behind The Neck is also an almost certain way to get a shoulder injury! Doing press behind the neck can be dangerous. That exercise besides Upright Rowing, especially heavy going heavy with a barbell, can cause serious injury to the shoulder joints. I should know because I've got one from first performing press behind the neck; it's a risky multi-joint exercise. Maybe one of the very few risky exercises; almost all exercises are safe, but not press behind the neck. Overhead pressing is good, and productive. It is much safer to do press from in front of the neck (in italics); regular standing presses with dumbbells, or barbell. There is a natural path for the weight to travel as you press overhead, and descend the dumbbell, or barbell. If not immediate, then eventually performing presses behind the neck can get you injured; and when you do your mental state is going to suffer, not just your capability for function, and strength. And mass.

Hahahaha
To be fair if the weight is picked correctly and form is good its not a bad exercise but Most people have poor shoulder mobility and rotator cuffs so it’s not ideal
Unless people do it irresponsibly with high loads and high frequency no one will get hurt! No more dangerous than any other movement
I need to do these again. My mobility is lacking because I’m not doing these
The legend itself
I've been doing so much youtubing for behind the neck. there is so much controversy
I simply need more accessory exercises to help my front strict press. I have been stuck on a 230 lb 1RM for 2 months. I really want to hit a 275 OHP by the end of the year.
Been doing Bradford presses... but now I'm considering adding simply behind the neck presses to help out too. but there is so much controversy around it
Just curious, but no way the guy in the black hat has real traps. They're over exaggerated and does not look proportional. But still very fit and great info all around.
.. on that oil regimen..
I’m gonna start implementing these again😳…whenever I do front military presses, my front delt gets compromised too much. Behind the neck, I get a more overall shoulder pump.
Totally agree with behind the shoulders. I go way lighter but I guess eight is all relative.
BTNs are life. Been doing them for 12 years and love every bit of it. Btw Mike definitely has HGH face just like Rich Piana.
Really good information!
I think I applied these same basic principles to the barbell bench press and particularly a wider grip barbell bench press.
I am 55 now and competed in drug free powerlifting (ADFPA) from 1987-1991.
I didn't train for years but started training again for health in my early 40s.
All I did was dumbbells for years because of mobility, range of motion, shoulders, etc
After covid I started getting a home gym and more serious.
Always use the Smith machine for shoulder press now, front and rear, find I'm less prone to injury but still get decent results
👆huge muscle building supps 👆These dudes make every work out enjoyable, next level shoulder exercises
Right!
All Natural, Fucking Boss
And mass.
