I deleted all social media many years ago, and have been bouncing the idea around to get rid of my smartphone as well. I am 28, and have been told by so many people “but you need it to stay connected with the world”. I disagree, I think it’s the opposite in a way. People are glued to the things and not actually “living”. I connect with the world by spending time in nature. That’s how life is supposed to be in my opinion.

@@Ravntor so right, my Daughter is 16 now and even she has learned that leaving Her phone in her car when we get out together. She would much rather be riding her horse or in a deer stand even just laying in a hammock next to the pond watching her rod n real!! But I guess it's my fault ever sense she's been big enough to sit up in a saddled she's been on a horse and started hunting with me by the time she was 8. I've always tried to teach her that nature can provide everything we need if we just pay attention to the things around us. But as a 16 year old young lady I do make sure that when she's not with me that she does keep her phone on her at all times in case of an emergency or in the case I need to JUST hear her voice to make sure she's ok. Being a single Father I've tried my best to teach her common sense and to keep her eyes open to everything around her and stay away from anything that doesn't LOOK or FEEL RIGHT!!! Unfortunately it also means I'm a bit over protective, she had a guy friend who ran up to behind her in the middle of Wal-Mart and grabbed her from behind while we where walking through there and before I realized it I had reached and pulled my pistol out from my holster and she knew exactly what I was doing and had to quickly grab my arm and sat Daddy he's a friend!! Poor boy almost pissed HIMSELF and started apologizing. LOL So now all of the boys in our small rural area know that her dad will go crazy on anyone who thinks of hurting her. But it comes with being single Father and my 20 years in the Air Force as a P.J team Sgt in the Special Forces Community..

Smartphone and social media addiction is a very real thing that most people have, but they don't even know it or want to admit it. One of the trends that I have observed with people is that they use their smartphone as some kind of ''adult pacifier'' to avoid uncomfortable settings or situations where they are shy. Instead of actually looking at the people around them and talking with them, they hide themselves behind their phones, staring down into their phones. And I have also noticed with both friends and family when having them over, that when having a conversation with them, instead of actually looking at the people and being engaged in the conversation, they rather have their smartphone up to their nose, scrolling through things on their phones. That kind of body language tells me that ''being on your phone'' is more important for them than being in my company, in the here and now, engaged and focused on the conversation.

I use mine for a variety of things but I don't use social media at all, don't always take it with me and often go days/weeks without using it.

    • @flinch622
      @flinch622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Big tech doesn't need you to "answer it". It's a device to data farm YOU - people are the new cotton. Where you go,, what you buy, what you read... all for sale to advertisers and marketers. If we applied these standards to a bookstore of 40 years ago, the equivalent would be a clerk checking your id when entering, then following you around the store with a clipboard taking notes on every book you picked up [and for how long] along with what you did buy. After that, your name & address gets sold to those on lists having declared interest in specific books so they can do their own marketing.
Turning off data sharing? In some cases, the manufacturer collects even MORE data - it caches and posts later, instead of feeding real time. I cannot recall the demand origins for even 10% of what they do. Altimiter? Nobody asked for those etc. Think about these devices in a ww2 setting for example: mere posession would garner espionage charges. That... should make us do some thinking about need vs want, perhaps?

@@flinch622 That's not because of the technology, that's because too many people don't care about their privacy at the moment. Heck, not only do they not care, they actively throw it away - constantly using certain Big Tech companies because it's convenient & popular, even though they're infamous for selling data, personalised ads, etc. Talking to some members of younger generations, they just don't seem to understand why privacy is something they might want to care about. There are things you can do to mitigate a lot of this invasiveness but so few even think about it, let alone make any effort

I loved this video! I am always on my phone watching videos. The thing with not having one is you won’t know what is going on around you and around the world. I don’t own a computer and don’t want one. I remember growing up with only one tv and it never caused any problems. Everyone got to watch what they wanted. Originally had only one phone in kitchen but for convenience got one for basement for when my mom was doing laundry. Everyone has a smartphone, Kids, teenagers, adults. I feel like we are missing out on what life and nature has to offer. I have my dads flip phone. I’ve been tempted to go to phone store to see if I can get it hooked up. I want to get away from the smart phone. I love that you always go out n nature. It’s so beautiful and magical. Thank you Bjorn for bringing that to me. I wish things would go back to how I remember. It seemed it was a slower pace. God Bless you Bjorn. There is still hope.🙏🏻🥰❤️

I still have my original Nokia 3310. Some 18 months ago, like Bjorn, I decided to bring it back to use and ditch a smartphone. Closed all my social media accounts except for YT, which I mostly watched on a PC or laptop anyway. The only thing I miss occasionally is convenience of WhatsApp to communicate with my children faster, but not having it is more of a nuisance for them than for me. I also went back to writing notes, letters and greeting cards by hand, doing basic calculations on paper or in mind, and remembering phone numbers, just to exercise my brain and cognitive capabilities. My adult children think I'm going nuts, and regressing as I'm getting old. They can't understand how a PhD engineer can consciously choose to live that way. Sad thing is, I have more energy, physical strength and stamina now in my 60s than my IT-career preoccupied, sedentary, take-out eating children in their 30s.

But I am all for limiting the usage or even completely getting rid of the thing. People are zombified and sometimes even wound up to do some terrible things becausee of the over usage of social media, which is very easy to do with a computer in one's pocket.

I use it only at home when I watch TV just in my living room and only take it on longer trips (in case I need 911) and it travels in a Faraday bag. It isn't utilized as a cell phone anymore. I know they can still track, so I turn off location and use a VPN. I also use my browser to check my FB and not the app. Cellphones are the DEVIL! I will never get another!

I've gone my entire life without owning a smartphone. I've seen others with them but I myself have never relied on smart phones my whole life except for when I needed to upload a picture of documents/etc. in which case I quickly borrowed my mother's smartphone for a picture then e-mailed it and that's pretty much all I've done with smartphones... I'm well into my 30's now and happy to avoid these weird smart phones!

I try to do monthly game nights and they seem to do well without looking at their phones 📲 for a few hours (3-4 hours) which is a start for them. It’s a start but I plan to have Sunday dinners for my older children with no phones 📵 at the table for 4 hours. I agree being more present in life at what we do and capturing life back. The reason I use a smartphone is for photographs and I bought one with the best possible camera. This is because I do not have the photo equipment with me everywhere. The motifs usually appear when you are not out taking pictures. The phone is also used to navigate the drone and control other software for photo equipment.
Otherwise, I use the phone itself little. I rarely call or text and rarely receive calls.
Had it not been for the photos, I would have done well without a smartphone. Maybe I had not needed to have a phone at all.
Thank you for sharing a great video once again.

Yea mate , 3 years since I took controll of my digital addiction to my smart phone and stopped using the iPhone .
Over the past three years , I’ve learnt to value face to face communication so much more .
I really don’t miss the constant distraction , from the present moment .
And my PSYCHIC ABILITIES , are getting stronger , as they are exercised more , without being constantly “ ON CALL “ and distracted by stupid insignificance of likes , and alerts from the phone .
When a friend thinks of me , I can see them , and return there loving intentions , undistracted by tech .
IF anyone wants to develop there inner abilities , put down the phone , redirect that attention WITHIN , to learning how to breath , and meditate etc.
Inner seeing , inner hearing and “ THE KNOWING “ all get stronger , when attention is redirected , “ WITHIN “ .

I really only used my phone for text messaging my siblings and children, but if I could find an app that would let me do that without reactivating the phone, that's what I would do. Good to see you looking well and may I say happier. I had a smart phone so I could contact my son who lived in Jamaica at the time and I did like to take photographs of trees and flowers and sunsets etc. However when the lockdown nonsense was on and you were told you could have 30 minutes exercise I went to a park which had been locked at the gates but got in through the bridle path. No one around and I did a dance and listened to the birds. But when I returned home it came up that I had been at Barwise and there was a photograph of that specific area which I hadn't taken. I was bloody fuming. So out came my Nokia, last used in 2013 and although it doesn't take photographs it does the text and calls. I only got that because I used to go to the Lake District and my son wanted to check I was ok. If there was a signal. I'm going to use cash too. Sick of the stupidity of those who are in power. You are so right. Yourself and your mind come first all the rest is garbage.
