Sadly it already is very much so and has been for some years now, in all honesty I miss winXP & Win7, but even when Win7 was fully supported when I did a search it was already showing me what I was just talking about with family or friends. It's going to be even more, the thing is Linux is still not supported by the large majority of program developers nor the gaming community devs, a few here and there but this is where we are today and the future.

I loved Windows Classic UI from the Windows 98 days and would love to see that make a return. I don't see a reason to have ever removed it as an option for people who wanted it. Also, another thing Windows 98 got right and is something you touched on, installing features during setup that you wanted and not installing those you didn't want. Sure, it had a typical selection in which it would just install whatever was preset but you also had an advanced mode where you could go through and check items you wanted and uncheck those you didn't want to your heart's content. They can make it happen, they just need to give more power back to the end user.

I agree with you that we need classic GUIs and compatibility with all previous hardware. If AI were logical and not hardware-bound, drivers could adapt automatically. My reason for not upgrading to newer versions is that I get lost when I'm looking for familiar paths to the functions I use or need. And I know what you're going to say, use the search engine or make shortcuts. It's not as easy as you think if your first language is not English. Basically, everything remains in English and the search engine does not find expressions from other languages. And I'll find a way out of the labyrinth in games, but in Windows I'll get lost because they'll move the thing I'm looking for under another branch, chapter, or it won't be accessible in the new image at all.

All jokes aside (hopefully what I said was jokes and not predictions), microsoft realy shouldnt limit the customization of windows UI, cause its not microsoft that knows how YOUR workflow is best, its you the user itself knowing whats best for you.

I do not use my laptop that much these days. In 2020, I replaced (upgraded) the hard drive with a much faster one and loaded the original factory software (bloatware) that it came with in 2013, onto it. I installed reputable antivirus software, turned off all updates, only access the internet "now and again," print documents as required and of course, playing music off external hard drives. Devices like my smartphone and tablet, have taken the place of my laptop, not rendering it obsolete, but for convenience sake. The good new we got PowerShell (project Monad), WPF (codename Avalon) was finally released, and parts of WinFS landed in SQL Server as FILESTREAM.

I don't want to have to set a plethora of video and audio file types, just to have separate default apps for music player and video player. It's so obvious why Microsoft made it so difficult for people to switch defaults apps from Microsoft apps. They can't sell people's data if they can't track them on their own apps. I've been a Linux user for 20 years and this is misleading.
Yes, Linux is a lot better then it was 20 years ago. However, as a Linux user and a tech that helps users on a daily basis, it's not for everyone and it absolutely is harder then Windows.
I've had to deal with the aftermath of this several times. A grandson that loads Linux on his grandma's computer because he says it's better than Windows but then she can't load her Hallmark card creator program that she bought at Walmart and the computer ends up sitting in the corner not used.
Windows is a consumer operating system. Linux isn't. Linux is an extremely powerful kernel that literally runs the internet. But operating systems based on the Linux kernel are enthusiast operating systems. The more they are tailored towards the consumer market the less Linux they become and the less attractive they become to people who like Linux for what it is.

I have made a Windows 7 ISO also. Added all the updates, and some other programs that I use often to the install. Later, I modified it for USB 3 when I bought a new AMD Motherboard and went Ryzen.
I've noticed the opposite, a lot of games will work with Windows 7, but some require some altering to make it happen. Which is why I've been slowly making Windows 11 look like 7, but it's challenging since the Icons are to bland and flat. I won't use Edge or Chrome - I do not like snooping from companies. DuckDuckGo is my search engine.
So, Windows 11 is a little more easy to use since I've made changes (Start11), but the Settings are a mess. I don't enjoy typing everything into a Search Bar just to find something. It's as though people who don't go outside, aren't around animals, and don't use their voices to talk to people are the ones doing all this stuff since Windows 8 to 11.
I know many people still that won't be getting a new computer any time soon, especially if they aren't 'gamers', because of the very strong dislike of Windows 8 to 10 and 11. I also know many who like Android vs Apple because Apple is very restrictive of personal data - but they don't want their Windows to look like a tablet.
Using Avast is all the security I need, as well as security with my Router. I can usually leave the Virus checking off since I'm very aware of what's on my system and I haven't come across an actual virus in years.
It takes a little bit for all the processing for installing Windows 7 that I've modified but I haven't had to reinstall in over 3 years. I also keep a couple backups of my Dual Boot system..so...it's all doing very well. I agree, get in there and change, stop some processes. Windows is becoming more bloated. I disabled/removed all the Voice Assistance junk and more from Windows 11. :-)
Nothing is "perfect" and I don't care how many clueless people use that word incorrectly so often, it won't be perfect..and I'm okay with that.

I am on Windows 11 because I have no choice if I want to use Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) . With Windows version 22H2 (22621. 1250) or some similar versions they brought back the search bar from Windows 10. I do not know why they didn't have this in the first place. I also like the rounded corners they added for a new look. Also Having an option to use a different start menu ( choice to use new or older start menu ) would have made people happier to use Windows 11. The right click menus are the other problems. If they give users an option to what they want, listen to your users. People would jump over. Since they do not then we choose to stick back with what works. DUH

Windows Central has covered quite a few bits that they have heard about Windows 12:
    - They are working on Windows being capable of scaling down its functionality depending of the device capabilities through extending modularity
-That screenshot was a prototype of a tablet mode, other layouts are also supposed to exist. Windows UI itself might become very adaptive depending on the device features.
-Classic mode are impossible in a way you think about them, because starting with Windows 11 uses completely new shell composer based on DirectX and UWP to display UI components like taskbar and start. Therefore, all those features would have to be recreated from scratch
    - Some may have noticed that darkmode isn't systemwide in Windows 11. That's because a lot of apps are being rebuilt with WinUI
    - Microsoft already provides a feature linking Android with Windows. Now that they are back at making phones themselves (running Android) they are going to double down on that

The reason a "classic" mode will never happen is two-fold... first is that they want a unified UI, second is can you imaging having to maintain multiple UIs?

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Wouldn't be too bad if they built the ability to skin the UI into the code. They could even open it up and allow the community to make custom skins. Something similar to Plasma.

There is nothing wrong with 11, but the issues I have with 11 is that it took things that 10 did and made them a little more tedious. Like removing the show all icons on the task bar to having to allow each icon independently after each new program you install. WTF were they thinking with that. Same crap with default apps. It's much more complicated than it was on 10.

That's the big question. I don't know if Microsoft will double down or make Windows 12 have really low system requirements like they've done in the past.
The backlash alone that they've gotten because of the windows 11 system requirements may make them change course. They did it with the Windows 8 start screen so it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities that they will change course with Windows 11. We just have to wait and see.
As of now Windows 10 is still in support so I think we can make a better educated guess when we find out what they're going to do with system requirements for Windows 11 when Windows 10 loses support. If they double down then we're screwed but I'm thinking they might change course. However, that's just my hunch.

I guess my computing hobby is going to come to an end in 2 years, because I'm NOT going to use Linux or Mac. Give the desktop users what they want. No bloat, no spying, and our old interfaces back. I'd be happy with a high-DPI Windows 2000 UI. TF do I need AI for? Use that silicon for actual processing.

I heard Microsoft introduced their own official workaround for installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. Could you possibly do a video tutorial on that and explain the potential downsides? I’ve tried to figure it out, but all of the walkthroughs I’ve found don’t really seem to explain it well. I can’t afford to upgrade my setup right now so I’m stuck on Legacy BIOS and TPM 1.2 even though it gives me the option to go up to 2.0.

I even use phone camera as a webcam. I spend all day using phone without touching it.

if they don’t bring back the ability to move the taskbar to the top or sides i will forever hate Windows, i spent years becoming used to having my taskbar at the top and upon updating to Windows 11 my workflow efficiency was cut in half due to having to relearn using a taskbar mounted on the bottom edge.
Yes, i know there exist UI mods (explorerpatcher comes to mind) to re-enable previous features but the sheer fact that i need to utilize buggy 3rd party programs to enable something that used to be natively baked in is simply insulting.
I am seriously considering just switching back to 10.

I am comfortable with Windows 10. Windows 11 says that I do not have something it needs on my system - so my computer cannot be upgraded - but it works fine for all my needs. ? An operating system that can configure itself to a wide range of older hardware - yet give some surprising new features like A.I. - would be great. It is hard to imagine that Software companies think in that way. They typically want to exploit the latest and greatest hardware and require folks to open their wallets for a major upgrade - which - at least at this writing - has become expensive.
I came across one software company in the field of software synthesizers - who - as their product has developed - has included older and rarer hardware synthesizers under midi - into the mix - so that older equipment becomes relevant again. Spectrosonic Omnisphere seems to be an exception to the rule - as it has become more inclusive in its development over time.
A great OS with this type of adaptive behavior would be on my Wishlist for tech Entrepeneurs to investigate and develop. I think A.I. as part of an OS directed toward this adaptive behavior would change the field of technology - and save older generations of computers from the trash heap - while - at the same time - pushing newer hardware to the next level of performance.
