Scotland ferries crisis hurting tourism and whisky trade

  • Ferries are a vital lifeline for Scotland's island communities. But a failure to replace the national operator CalMac's ageing fleet has caused major disruption for islanders - harming tourism and the valuable whisky trade.

Two new ferries are so delayed and over budget that today, the boss of the state-owned shipyard tasked with building them was sacked. And other new ferries are being built in Turkey.

Wait, did I hear that right? The Turkish built ferries are on time and on budget, while the scottish ones cost 4 times from the original budget and yet to be completed?!! I don't actually mind that much if they cost 4 times more, it were built 4 times faster, but the turkish ones are due in October while FM still haven't delivered theirs despite started building them earlier!! Infuriating.

SNP bashing for this “ferry fiasco”…channel 4 should really be less bias with their choice of words, I thought they were better than tabloid journalism. Anyway, this issue relates to procurement and suppliers, not to SNP total incompetence. Anger directly to the SNP here is just from politically charged tories throwing their toys out the pram. There’s government failure from procurement all over the U.K. and the world from governments of left & right persuasion. This is not a singular issue affecting the SNP and to suggest it’s an SNP fiasco is quite simply ludicrous

The combination of the yard management and incompetent SDP have allowed this to happen, therefore back to my original question, someone needs to take responsibility for this carbuncle and be sacked...simple.
If your argument is based on saving the yard at any cost, then let's follow that principle through to saving any business that is in financial difficulty.
