I did an "accidental" hard cut about a week ago. We went away for a while and the grass got pretty high. I cut it at the same setting but the stocks really started to show. I thought I ruined my lawn ! Sure enough it's turning nice and green again after a week. I cut with a riding mower so it's hard to keep the grass as short as I'd like it without scalping it. Thanks for the video and explanation about how Bermuda grass grows.
Thanks doc for your advice, here in Spain 🇪🇸 you dont find such good info about lawn care and treatment, all my neighbors think i have artificial grass thanks to your tip, right know im spreading your knowledge to all of the because results are amazing, sincerly i cant find here most of the product you use but can handle my lawn care with good quality fertilizer and a sort of humichar i found here. Just want to say thanks to you and keep it up, you are my lawn care guide to whats next to do on my lawn💪👏
So glad for this post, as I was just contemplating doing this. I live in AZ where it’s 105-110. I water a LOT but wonder if this hard cut / almost scalp could be too hard at these temps?
I have a regular lowes kolbalt push rotary mower. I figured out the other day that if I pull the height setting out of 1" and let it go all the way down, I think it got me aroud .5". I sharpened my blades and put on that height, def seeing yellow spots and green but I feel like I didn't hurt the Bermuda. Don't know if others tried it with that, my yard is too small for one of those reel mowers..
I like mowing with a John Deere subcompact tractor. It has a belly mower you can take on and off pretty easily. I like the power and the humming of the diesel. Plus it has the capability of using various implements with it. If I was gonna go with a reel mower, I'd have to look into a bigger riding one because my yard is over an acre.
The lowest setting on my mower is 1 1/4” and that is where I have been mowing at this season. Not sure how to get it lower except with a2nd pass but that will only be minimal
So much good information packed into 22 minutes! Can't wait to see the "after" video. I'm in Visalia Ca, curious what your daytime temps average during the summer months.
doc i have a question for your next Q and A. more of advice i guess. what about shade areas. the tree in my backyard has been cut back to maximum. my idea is to plant some st Augustine in the shade areas. is this a good alternative. my only concern i see is big weed treatment and pre -emergent. have to look at a different table.
Totally see what you're saying, but this big yellow thing here in texas does a good job of keeping it in the dark. I might try my luck. Can always starve it for water maybe and thank you! I think if invasive is all that could he a problem then no problem at all.
Do you have any videos talking about your fence flower beds and how you keep them looking the way they do? I noticed you built them out after getting the new fence but was curious if you had more detail on how you created them and what you planted? Thanks!
do you have a video on how to fight weeds that will not die? I have lots of crabgrass and other weeds that don't seem to be affected by any post-emergent.
Hey doc, are you no longer recommending using chicken feed to boost organic matter? That plus humichar is much more cost efficient than using dirt booster.
I'm a little confused, why would you do so much fertilizing (complete & balance) in the middle of summer instead of just spraying super juice and some mild applications?
No accident this was just in advance of July 4th Holiday. It's gonna look fantastic and all that hard work will pay off. Quick question Doc - Dirt Booster or Chicken Feed ? Which one to put down in July?
In the springtime you used alfalfa pellets as part of the organic components. I have not seen alfalfa pellets used in your videos since then. Is their a best time to use them? Also, Would you use alfalfa pellets or crumbles in a super compost pile ?
I'm curious if pre-emergent is also recommended here during the summer? Is it summer safe as I see you mainly highlight the need for it in fall, winter, spring.
If you have not applied it this year, then yes do an app. It's always best to avoid the heat with it but it can be done anytime on an established lawn.
Doc I heard you say dirt booster, however I went on Amazon to order dirt booster by Anderson but it’s a 20 lb bag and the one you had you mixed with water. The one on Amazon says use in a garden. I’m looking for the one for the lawn. Help!
Doc….how short did you end up cutting your grass for this hard cut? Been cutting mine at 5/8” last few weeks after vacation and noticed exactly what you described where previously I was cutting at 7/16” and I was getting “should have brought my putter” comments 😂
Doc all of a sudden I’ve had a late burst of nutsedge and spurge weeds in a few sports. What can I do about this? I don’t want to hurt the Bermuda because it looks great. TIA
@@HowTowithDoc we have a lawn where there is nearly every grass type in it and there is a patch of bermuda grass i always wondered why it likes being cut so low the front lawn is all one grass type but the back lawn had bad turf put on it it was all one grass when we laid it then every other grass species grew in it
So I emailed a really smart turf and lawn specialist who alot of experts lean on when it comes to the science of it all. And he says your roots are going to create microbes in your soil naturally, putting down microbial packs are not necessary Says they could even eat the nutrients your putting out for your turf. Especially with a mature lawn like docs that has had 5 years of thousands and thousands of dollars of care and extras like humichar. Doesn't hurt but not necessary. Idk I been putting on my lawn but also wonder is all this TH-cam lawn extras worth it?

“Absolutely nothing”
“Except cutting and watering” lol
Would be nice to know what your cost per 1k sq ft you have in all this on an annual basis. All seems great, but at what cost?
So glad for this post, as I was just contemplating doing this. I live in AZ where it’s 105-110. I water a LOT but wonder if this hard cut / almost scalp could be too hard at these temps?
Wow. That’s hard work and beautiful finish.
Sup doc! I look forward to watching every video you make thanks for the knowledge!

Hey Doc, love the channel and your products. I’m in the Atlanta area. Who would you recommend for a top dressing/leveling service?

I think the St A will be too invasive. I would look more towards a NON-SPREADING shade tolerant grass.

Would dethatching have similar results? Like getting rid of the brown stuff and allowing the green to get healthier?
We don't dethatch Bermuda.
@@HowTowithDoc thanks! Glad I didn't buy a dethacher yet!
@@HowTowithDoc so I shouldn’t use a thatch rake on my Bermuda grass? I thought it was ok?

I'm a little confused, why would you do so much fertilizing (complete & balance) in the middle of summer instead of just spraying super juice and some mild applications?
SJ is a supplement... PGFs are a fertilizer. Warm season LIKES ferts in the summer. SJ we save for the microbe sprays.
@@HowTowithDoc got it thanks, that wasn't clear from Bermuda calendar as ferts are optional and Balance only in spring. Thanks for info
Any Video's on how much gap you allow between your spreader runs?
No "gaps" we just make sure we get even total coverage. You have to understand how far each product will throw and adjust on the fly.
What if I already cut at lowest setting on my rotary mower? Not sure if double cut can apply the same way without a reel mower.
No accident this was just in advance of July 4th Holiday. It's gonna look fantastic and all that hard work will pay off. Quick question Doc - Dirt Booster or Chicken Feed ? Which one to put down in July?
Either one... DB is just an all-in-one with Humichar and fungus booster
Would you pull cores after you get down a hard cut since Bermuda likes being beat-up?
In the springtime you used alfalfa pellets as part of the organic components. I have not seen alfalfa pellets used in your videos since then. Is their a best time to use them? Also, Would you use alfalfa pellets or crumbles in a super compost pile ?
Dirt Booster seems very expensive for a lawn application. Wish it was more affordable. How many square feet does a 20lb bag cover?
I live in Colorado what grass would be good?
I'm curious where have you been for six weeks?
I love your fence. I know you got it at your beach house too. I’m having a house built in Savannah and was wondering which company you used?
Parker Fence and Deck... Curt is a great guy.
Doc are you still putting pgf down when you apply growth regulator? Or does that defeat the purpose?
19:03 American Goldfinch
When the best time to level the yard?
usually spring but you could do it now no problem
When the yard is unlevel is the best time. 😂. I've been doing mine over time.
How do I get the Bermuda lawn guide
Thank you for sharing this info sir..

www.dirtbooster.com/ You can spread on your lawn.
How long can I store Super Juice once I've made it?
A couple of weeks is ok... keep it covered and cool.

The Inverness Club is amazing, one of the best in Ohio. Maybe they’ll invite you up for a round afterwards?
Thanks Doc

Use image in a small spray bottle and treat each one at the root. Pain... but protects the lawn.
@@HowTowithDoc thank you Doc! Appreciate all your videos, teachings and willingness to experiment and show your viewers
Looks good we are supposed to get rain in West Tenn tonight it has been 3 weeks everything is burnt up.
good information
Is it good to cut that low
If it's Bermuda... then yes. The lower the better.

dirt booster one size bag?
Yes, in this first year one size.
Thank You
I think your dog is getting ready to help you put down some organic matter

Fungus... not microbes. The spores need to be placed, roots can't create them.
Gotcha! He was referring to the root cycling effect. Thanks Doc! I know the Recharge works on plants which bermuda is so I'm going to keep using it.
👍💪😎
You all need to make bigger spray bottles!!!
