    I seeded my new lawn with Arden-15 this spring. I put down 2 full bags of humichar and tilled that into my bare dirt before seeding. My lawn is coming in fantastic! About 1 month after seeding my lawn started to look like it was about to die, but then I started using PGF complete every 2 weeks and I credit that to saving my grass and making it grow in great! Thanks Doc!

      Nice... I'm dealing with a 4.9 PH at the beach house and have fingers crossed.

    I’ve seeded Arden 15 4 times now using that same daisy chain sprinkler setup. A wifi hose timer comes in real handy for the first 2 weeks. Look forward to seeing how it turns out.

    Just what the doc prescribed. Moving into a new construction in two weeks, it has some form of Bermuda sod in front and side yards laid by contractors about 2 months ago, cheap rye/fescue blend seed in the back (that isn’t taking well). Going to till and level the back with loads of humichar and balance in the soil, then throw out Arden 15. Probably try to toss out a little over the sod as well with a very light amount of soil/sand.

    I didn’t know that about dethatching Bermuda. I dethatched my entire lawn. How to I repair it? My back lawn his in bad place now. As that one doesn’t get as much sun either.

    As much work that doing yard work is, I find it relaxing. Now I want to to watch your new grass grow. Thanks for sharing. John

    How deep should I put the seeds. I have tilled with a hand tiller and then put seeds down and re tilled again, so no seeds were showing. I watered for three weeks no germination. The next time I left the seeds on top of the grass and just put straw down, watered 2 1/2 weeks no germination. What am I doing wrong? Help? I used princess 77.

      Verticutting when it comes to Bermuda and other types of stolen growing turf. Dethatching will tear up more stolens and damages he turf more.

    Did I hear you correctly? Did you day do NOT dethatch bermuda? How do we remove some of the thick thatch that may exist?

    • @Halloweenjunkies
      @Halloweenjunkies 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is the first i've ever heard not to dethatch. Makes sense though, i pull up a ton of runners when i do. I guess the simple answer is dont get thatch build up and you wont have to dethatch.

    • @JBRBaseball
      @JBRBaseball 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simplest answer is if your Bermuda lawn has thatch it isn’t being managed correctly. You need to mow weekly, if not more. Keep it mowed at 1/2” and it will thrive. Letting it get long will shade itself and then thatch starts in that underbelly that now doesn’t get enough sunlight. So to start with a clean slate, your best bet is to scalp the lawn with a very low cut, use a brooming device to pick up all your clippings (very important!!!), and then keep mowed at 1/2” moving forward. What remaining thatch you didn’t get on the scalp cut will work itself out over time. And your lawn will probably look awful for a few months. Brown spots and patchiness until the Bermuda learns to thrive at that short cut that it loves. The runners will also take off and thicken your lawn over time (why we don’t dethatch) which will drown out any weeds that may have grown in at the longer lengths your lawn was at. Bermuda is a funny grass because it’s high maintenance because of the frequency you need to cut, but if you do that and fertilize regularly it’s actually very low maintenance and manages itself!

    Allett sells and recommends scarifing/dethatching. I tried the grounds keeper rake, stopped when i saw how it was pulling up the runners but my grass was wet.

    You could have put some tiny holes in a SOLO CUP. I don't know what made me think of that but I did. I've bought 3 or 4 because I misplace them. Not to mention, I've given some to friends lol.

    Doc, what happens if we already detached our Bermuda lawn, and now a couple months later I have maybe 30% coverage of grass left. I thought my watering and very high temps of around 115 here in southern AZ did my lawn in, but now I'm really kicking myself for dethatching.
    Do I need to re seed?

    I think your son plays off your personality great for entertainment value but honestly I'm waiting to see how the zoysia turns out because I think shady NC yard would work well with it. By the way I'm so jealous of your Bermuda but I have way too much shade. Even with 12 in of topsoil.

    What do you mean “don’t dethatch” Bermuda grass? Doesn’t the thatch prevent water from getting to the soil? More information on this please.

    • @hghghghg363
      @hghghghg363 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm guessing because of the aeration you wouldn't need or want to dethatch🤷🏾‍♂️. I actually found that aerating your lawn helps with water getting to the soil.

    I'm doing a light 50/50 top dressing on tifway 419, and I'm going to add arden 15. Should I put the seeding down first or after I level the soil?

    • @Perronology
      @Perronology 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably after the soil, you don’t want to burry the seed too deep. The seed just barely has to be raked into the soil.

    I've seen a lot of different information regarding Dethatching and Scarifying Bermuda as part of lawn maintenance for southern regions due to thatch buildup. From what you mentioned at the 5 minute mark, is it ever okay to Dethatch or Scarify a Bermuda lawn for maintenance?

      I used a manual dethatch rake to my Bermuda in February of this year on a 4 year old new lawn. I did this as I have been cutting my Bermuda too high and have been following the Bermuda lawn guide cutting my yard at 1 1/4” (lowest setting on my mower). My lawn is the thickest it has ever been. Having said that my front yard is on a slope and this season never got really dark green throughout. I will not dethatch next season but need to aerate as it has not been done in 4 years. I will do a better job of this going forward.

    Can't wait to see how it turns out! I have a big bare patch in my yard that used to be moss. I was going to plug it, but thinking about maybe seeding with Arden 15... decisions, decisions!

  • @TickyTack23
    @TickyTack23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I'm looking to do aeration on parts of my backyard. Admittedly, I've been rough-housing with the shepherds, before my early seed could get well established, and it has compacted the soil and grass so much, it struggles to get any real growth. But the front lawn is looking spectacular!

    I`m wondering why you didn`t get The Johnny (Deere) out and pack the seed bed with those tires? I use a tractor with turf tires to pack my foodplots and it does quite well. I`m anxious to see how the Arden15 does for you.

    I believe the annual rye had a lot of weed seeds. I don’t think I’ll ever over seed with it. I’ve considered using kbg and having bluemuda.

    • @JonnyKaufmanTenor
      @JonnyKaufmanTenor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fall: cool season grasses (Fescue, KBG, Rye, etc.)
      Late Spring/Summer: warm season grasses (Bermuda, Zoyisa, St. Augustine, Centipede, etc.)

    • @tretre1692
      @tretre1692 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Youll want the summer to help establish the lawn for warm season grasses. If you do seeding with cook season, the summer will really hinder the growth of the grasses

      Bermuda is a coverage grass which like to grow low and cover the ground if you dethatch Bermuda you essentially cut the coverage it has off and when you mow you are removing the growth of the coverage therefore killing off the Bermuda and not getting the carpet finish
