@krzosu Even LEGION didn't know about the Marked of Kane until after it reawakened in 2052 and Kane told it to activate them, and as we saw through the fear and concern that Alexa Kovaks had as she saw Legion awaken, there was a portion of CABAL's will and memory in LEGION, suggesting the two were very connected. As for the data pertaining to resources used for the Marked of Kane development and storage, Kane could have completely severed that whole region from CABAL's network, preventing it from tracking resource usage that it wasn't even allowed to be aware of. If Kane told CABAL to ignore a region, it would listen, and it would have nothing to share to LEGION. Its interesting to see how Kane was trying to create his own version of the Scrin. The Scrin were Bio-Macanical entities that used Tiberium as everything. The Marked of Kane were Full Mecanical entities that also use tiberium. The difference is there. And even more, the reason why the Scrin werent able to know more about Kane was because their Command didnt wanted to stay on earth and risk his own life for the Overlord. The Marked would stay on earth and fullfil the mission
11:16 I always thought Cabal was under Kane's control during this event all along. As we know at the end of the Firestorm Nod campaign we can see Kane connected to Cabal and it looks like he's controlling it to achieve something. Maybe his goal was to dispose of the members of the Inner Circle (it's a fact everytime his absence they only fight each others) and aquire more humans for expand his MOK army and maybe trying to summon the Scrin to Earth. But that is only my theory.
it was stated by kane in his diary that no he basicaly spent that entire time mentaly dueling cabal cabal jockeying off of many bodies to increase creative thinking and to increase cognitive ability
The Marked of Kane is my most favorite Nod subfaction. My guess is why they didn't side with Cabal is likely Kane had to see if they won't rebel, so he kept others in reserve, just in case. It's good you didn't include those from Tiberian Twilight. That's not a true Tiberium story.
I like how well made these videos are, including going into gameplay details and not just out-of-game lore. And it's fantastic to hear so much use of the tiberian sun playlist!!
Wasn't legion made with some of the same code used for CABAL. Which is why one of Kanes commanders Alexa infected Legion with a virus and oddly enough got a reply from Legion who sounded very much like CABAL even looked a bit like CABAL. Also Alexas family was wiped out or mostly wiped out by CABAL.
CABAL was the framework that LEIGON was built from, its why you see flashes of it. During his time in stasis Kane had to mentally “defeat” the AI to regain his own body again.

@@ishitrealbad3039 the concept would still be used in servitors and skitarii though so it may in the end be useful. Might explain a lot of stuff though: Kane is a perpetual
I think cabal was attempting to activate the mark of Kane but simply ran out of time. The reason I say this is because at the end of firestorm and while nod celebrates it Victory you can see Kane in a stasis container trying to heal while the monitor above him begins talking with his and cabals voice as if trying to assimilate. Originally I thought Kane was actually cabal and was using him to enact his will but not reveal it to be himself cause if he failed (which cabal did) then nod would lose trust, faith and loyalty to Kane So to prevent this Kane used cabal to be his darker side without revealing it to his loyalist. However thanks to this video it gives me the theory that while Kane was healing cabal was trying to imitate Kane to not only use it against general slavik during the firestorm crisis (since nod was waiting for Kane and if he returned many would blindly accept it as him) but also bypass Kane's security to gain access and control to the mark of Kane while using the older cyborg models as a distraction from its primary goal but like it said at the nod ending of firestorm "my plans have premutated due to the union of gdi and nod....." meaning it wasn't expecting nod and gdi to team up so it gets you wondering if they didnt make the alliance then would cabal continue to rely on obsolete cyborgs to finish the mission or would he surprise both gdi and nod with an more advance army later on during the crisis?
The idea of these guys, humans turned into cyborgs who abandon their humanity in order to serve a religious order devoted to a human they view as a god, really reminds me of the Manei Domini who serve the Word of Blake in Battletech. Which I'm more than ok with since the Word of Blake is my favourite faction in Battletech!
Fun fact about the Awakened: They can also use the Particle Cannon that Black Hand (and what the Enlightened start with) have! The difficult part is acquiring it- needing to capture a BH tech center. This is easiest seen on the final mission of Kane’s Wrath.
me and my brother have a personal headcannon for the Marked of Kane that I would like to share here. But we do consider Ra1 to be connected to the Tiberium lore for it There is a good chance that the Marked of Kane are the final throws of old Soviet cyborg tech (potentially started under orders of Kane himself). Considering how the soviets actually had a cyborg super soldier Volkov and a cybernetically enhanced dog with him. However when the Allies tinkered with Volkov and made him go haywire, Kane probably lost trust in the tech for now, demanding them to be improved until he was happy with them (whichi is why they were used in Project Regenesis and later TS cyborgs). This is why they were stored in those areas under south east asia and russia. The Marked of Kane are nothing more than Cabal's final robotic army which never got used during the firestorm crisis but bolstered with modern (?) weapons In an unrelated note, I do wish the MoK Redeemer had more nods (get it XD ) to CABAL and the Core Defender
Honestly, one of my favourite sub faction. Marked of Kaine units are basically really great, awakaned and enlightened can be terrifying if messed with but my most favourite is the Viper Gunships with laser upgrades. Cause holy hell they are broken.
I think CABAL eventually would have reactivated the Marked, but simply didn't have the time or resources to spare getting the Marked reactivated due to the unexpected alliance of Nod and GDI. I think CABAL was operating much like the Scrin, a lot of diversionary operations to keep Nod and GDI on the backfoot but not having a tremendous amount of military power at his disposal.
I was thinking the same thing that cabal ran out of time but I also think he couldn't bypass kanes security systems (thus why at the end of firestorm storm you can see the monitor of cabal and Kane trying to merge as a means to trick the system however the union prevented its task from being completed) so that if cabal was ever compromised then he wouldn't have to worry about gdi or nod learning about his secret and try to either destroy the mark of Kane or use them for their own purpose. Honestly i don't think he ever expected the security system to hinder cabal and its genocide of humanity lol
My theory is that CABAL had always operated under Kane's command, even when it supposedly "went rogue". Its rebellion was probably just a distraction to let Kane create his personal army in complete secret since even his own men can betray him.
I still find it funny that main scientist who helped creating cyborgs for Nod is named Gero. Same surname of scientist in Dragonball series where he also created cyborgs (although called androids for some reason).
I think CABAL was attempting to enact Kane's secret plan for the Marked during Firestorm, as hinted at in the ending Nod cutscene. It was attempting to turn all the world- Nod and GDI alike into cyborgs. Into more Marked. But not understanding this was the will of Kane, the brotherhood resisted and joined forces with GDI to repel and defeat CABAL and unwittingly setting back Kane's plan by almost 20 years.
I still think the visuals and animations for the MOK look really silly. They look far too goofy when they are hopping around and less like the lumbering monstrosities of TS. That and the game-play of TibWars means that they die ridiculously fast.
That was the good thing about the cyborgs from Tib Sun. Granted the standard cyborg had pretty mediocre weaponry, but they were tough to get rid of in large numbers. I missed being able to heal the new ones in tiberium given how they were weaker than their predecessors. Still, it'#s good to see cyborgs make a return.
The in-game rendition of the awakened does drop the ball a bit, they don’t look nearly as intimidating as in the concept art. Nothing that some mods can’t fix tho
Face it, the aesthetics were just better in TibSun overall. The maps looked more apocalyptic and desolate, the units had more realistic designs despite employing futuristic weapons, and the animations of projectiles while simpler, had a lot more punch behind them and looked better. C&C3 on the other hand, had more pastoral maps, grossly exaggerated, cartoonish units, and silly animations. For design, let's compare the devil's tongue from the 2nd Tiberium War with the flame tank from the 3rd Tiberium War. The latter has two large, very conspicuous fuel tanks that are just begging to be shot at, and the whole thing looks like a vacuum cleaner. Its 2nd Tiberium War counterpart on the other hand is nightmare fuel. We only have to conjure the image of that poor GDI soldier being consumed by one in the trailer to convince ourselves. Now let's compare cyborgs. Cyborgs from the 2nd Tiberium War were terrifying. How we do know this? Well just look at 'em! Again, we can consult cut scenes in order to prove that our opinions are correct. Now let's turn to those of C&C3. What happened to their necks? Why are their heads so big? A normal human is 7.5 head lengths tall, whereas the Marked of Kane specimen featured at 9:19 is about 6.5 head lengths. Aren't they supposed to tower over normal soldiers? And since they use actual human bodies as their core, shouldn't they be 9 or 10 head lengths in height, if not more? Did Kane handpick those soldiers with the largest heads for his cybernetic research? Finally, why the hell do they swing their arms out to the sides when they run? Call it what you will, but it certainly doesn't invoke any of the dread of 2nd Tiberium War cyborgs. C&C3 is what you get when you have a larger budget, better specs, but less talent and creativity on the part of the developers.
I was always under the idea that CABAL was the lead creator of the army, after the joint attack by NOD and GDI and the destruction of his larger Tiberium field harvesting and cyborg factories units too far away from the combat where put into “cells” as to not let them fall as fail safe, only then awoken by Kane years later.
Regarding your question about why didnt Cabal use cyborgs which Legion later used. I think those were actually made after cabals rebellion. First, design and arsenal is completely different, there are no sleeper cyborg agents during tw2 and cabals rebellion either (atleast known to me). There are no signs of obsolescence like in literally every piece of weaponry from tw1 and 2. You said Kane kept research hidden because some parts of Nod would object but that doesnt make sense after tw1 since during tw2 Nod was widely using cyborgs, i think that part refers to time after cabals destruction since people got first hand experience with cyborgs killing everybody. Nod cyborg research came from labs in Russia and east asia, but since we are talking about huge area here, it doesnt mean that first cyborgs came from same place as those that legion wakes up.
Sorry for the incoming long comment. So originally I did believe exactly what you said about the MoK being developed after cabal's rebellion. But the intelligence data base entry regarding the MoK implies that that was not the case. I would read that whole entry, but specifically there is this last paragraph which says: "The path was long and arduous, and outside of a few promising developments - the most notable being the cyborg armies of CABAL - far from successful. Eventually, the Second Tiberium War drew to a close, the Marked of Kane finally near completion. However, it was too late to save Nod and the Marked of Kane were left to slumber deep beneath the Earth, awaiting their master's call..." This seems to imply that they were in development during TW2 and were very close to completion but it was too late for NoD to make use of them since Kane had been wounded by McNeil and put into stasis, which put Slavik in charge who, along with other members of the Inner Circle, did not seem to know about the existence of the MoK specifically. Obviously they new about the generic cyborgs that they used but the MoK were apparently separate from those. The only other entity besides Kane who could have known about their existence would have been CABAL who was hooked up to almost all of Nod's computer systems. Though I guess it's possible Kane could have also kept the MoK's existence disconnected from CABAL's systems as well.
@@Jethild I think if Kane was smart enough he would of kept the MOK project secret from CABAL. Kane has done things like this before in the past. He kept information from Alexa and Killian as well as others he didn't fully trust. I wonder if he thought CABAL might of been changed by the tacitus. He still needed Tratos and CABAL and himself and possibly his top scientist to translate it. The tacitus might of only contained information but its best to be on the safe side if your interfacing a machine with something that might have some possible virus on it. Slavik also had to capture a functional EVA unit and have it reprogrammed so if Kane was worried about CABAL somehow becoming changed or reprogrammed that would make sense. It's odd that in Firestorm CABAL requires the Tacitus which Kane requires to learn how to get the Scrin to come to earth. I wonder if CABAL was infected with some virus which made him want to exterminate all human life and replace it with his army that he can control. There is still not enough known about the Tacitus and who made it. If there was some other ancient society or other alien race that were the rival of the Scrin then they would do anything to stop the Scrin destroying life on planets and replacing it with teberium based life. If the Tacitus is Scrin then they would want it back in their hands or away from Kane or CABAL or GDI as they only want to go to planets are Tiberium has done the job killing off all life, then you can just harvest forever in peace with next to no resistance.
Honestly, it sounds like some of these cyborgs rely on robotics for mobility, decision making and combat. Like, if the human part isn't in there to provide direction, comprehension and thought, what's it there for? Might as well use robots under the direct remote control of Legion.
who knows maybe the firestorm event was Kanes will, Kanes plan to remove NOD leaders that would only leave NOD fractured thru infighting. Kind aa operation clean house.
Awakened can also have their machine guns replaced with Black Hand charged particle beams, if you capture a Black Hand technology center. Also, GDI made use of cybernetics in one instance: the Firehawk's on-board computer had a "limited man-machine interface". By C&C4, cybernetics have become pretty much common place once again: cyborg gunners on aerial units like the Basilisk, the new generations of Enlightened, the Engineers, the next generation Cybernetic Commando, et cetera. Looks like CABAL's impact was a temporary one.
@@Darqshadow Oh, I know. :) The joke on the subreddit that C&C4 doesn't exist has been going on for 12+ years now. C&C4 was an awful game, but it had some interesting ideas and concepts that could be reused for other things e.g. a C&C3 mod (which is why we see mods with C&C4 units in them). The game itself? Garbage. The storyline? Garbage. The units and concepts plagued by poor execution? Salvageable. Heck, even the Crawler System could be used, if they were MCV enhancements (e.g. adding advantages and disadvantages, such as wheels being faster on flat terrain, aerial being weaker in HP and armour, and legs on rough terrain/cliffs).
I think that Kane didn't really trust anyone with the marked of Kane. After all Legion wasn't informed of them till he was reawakened. Till then the AI had to make due with normal forces for its missions even though the marked were done and ready for use.
Wait a moment, Cyborg warriors, Dr. Gero... Is there some third source material that Dragonball Z and C&C are both referring to? Is C&C referencing DBZ? Idk.
My theory as to why CABAL didn't use the Marked was because, compared to the standard cyborgs it already had, they were obsolete in some ways (possibly not as resilient, didn't regenerate on tiberium, etc). Maybe during that time, most of the weapons technology employed by the Marked had been experimental and not cost-effective. In such cases, it was likely CABAL kept the Marked of Kane in storage as backup (like some nations with modern tanks still have Cold War-era tanks sitting in storage for an emergency), and couldn't use them in time due to their distance from the Core, once it was assaulted by GDI and NOD.
I think there's another possibility, CABAL seized control of the Cyborg Corps directly while LEGION had to go directly to Russia and reactivate the Marked, it could just be that the Marked weren't networked and CABAL didn't want to waste the time or resources to bring them online and network the units whether because of arrogance or because CABAL was too busy with Nod and GDI in the war to spare the "manpower."
@@lordfrostwind3151 Your theory makes more sense. Could even tie a bit with the cost-effectiveness/obsolescence one. Or that CABAL just saw them as redundant at that point - it (or Kane... or both) didn't foresee NOD and GDI allying to take CABAL down.
Hm, I'm not sure I classify the MoK as obsolete compared to their prototypes in TW2 and Firestorm. While they may not be able regenerate on tib fields, they are significantly faster than the lumbering machines during the second war and are equipped with EMP cannons. Considering how effective the Reaper was with just simple nets to capture infantry, cyborgs with emp to shut down tanks alongside them would have been a huge bonus for CABAL. Holding onto those as back up as NOD and GDI got *near* his core and then never using them doesn't seem likely. As for cost-effectiveness....in CABAL's army, there's not really an 'economy' to speak of as there is only one will. The only thing that would limit CABAL would be resources, but considering how much he could have salvaged from GDI and NOD during the beginning and middle of his insurrection, he probably could have made due easily enough. Nah, the only two reasons CABAL wouldn't have activated the MoK was, as you said, perhaps arrogance or he didn't know about them.
I don’t know if someone else already mentioned this. But yes CABAL was left unaware to the existence of the marked of Kane. I’m pretty sure Kane said in a cutscene that the army was left off the brotherhood database hence why CABAL never knew about them.
One thing I continue to find fascinating is there are no cyborg equivalent to rocket soldiers, despite if anything, cyborg would be able to utilize anti-air weapons much better than what humans can do. It would be cool to also have Marked of Kane unique anti air infantry rather than just reusing rocket squad.
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine"
If a proper C&C sequel was made, and CABAL returned as a playable faction, it would be interesting if Slavik too returned from the dead as a cyborg commander under CABAL.
Maybe Kane facilitated the Firestorm crisis to test the effectiveness of cyborgs against GDI, and NOD? Just in case such an event would occur in the future when he awakens the Marked of Kane?
I know this is an old video and probably covered by now, but I think the reason is that Kane was linked with Cabal at parts along with other people but his cyborg initiative is likely exactly what cabal did but without Kane's forethought and his full understanding, the "rebellion" was likely a fall back plan should the leaders of Nod prove to troublesome for Kane at some point, a built in failsafe, but Cabal saw the in fighting and the betrayals as the things to set the protocols into motion, Cabal did not rebel against Kane, he rebelled against the incompetent leaders left behind, every single time Kane leaves, the toddlers destroy everything.
I don't think the Marked of Kane were networked outside of their storage bunker. Legion couldn't just plug in and activate them either, he had ot physically retrieve them. So Cabal may have known, but not cared. Cabal wasn't exactly short on Cyborgs, as he produced those himself.
As neat as these guys are, I don't get something. If these guys are so far removed from their humanity as to be emotionless robots, _why didn't they just use robots instead?_ Why go through the trouble of creating cyborgs? I'm probably asking the wrong questions here though, since this is the Command & Conquer universe we're talking about.
Just a guess, but they may have been used for propaganda purpose. At some point, Nod realized that a robot face made it harder to get denizens of Red and Yellow Zones into thinking Nod actually cared about them and ultimately joining the Brotherhood than a human face even though both bodies were just as souless.
I don't know if there's a lore explanation, but there are many reasons I can think of, for one having an abomination of flesh and metal can be scary asf (just look at the awakened concept art or the Firestorm Reapers' cinematics), so *psychological warfare*, specially if they are mutant-humans (like the ones from Project ReGenesis or the ones from TibSun) or dead ones (the Marked of Kane, probably the Reapers as there's a cut cinematic where there's one with a human skull and no flesh). You also have the problem of the AI's, despite how advanced EVA is, it's still pretty basic compared with CABAL (who used both robotic components and literally human minds/brains), so there's probably some problems with machine/software-only units, or maybe they aren't as clever/tactical as the cyborgs and the controlled-drone units (like the "Mantis")
Their human minds certainly retained some memory of the Nod religion. Pairing that with the AI/biological interface, and you had a soldier that literally believed in the input code received. Fear was stripped away. Certain biological functions no longer impeded their efforts. Essentially, they were terminators derived from a prior living soul and iron framework.

funny thing if you foolow the in universe lore Legion is not just a new AI he is infact the first one built before KABAL one that was made to fully merge with the Alien tech and only loyal to Kane the issue was that when merged with the person it needed time to fully merge with them it needed to learn so the commander you play as in the games as nod is legion in that you are both human and AI merged into one this allows you to both remain loyal to Kane when KABAL takes over the other AI and also allows you to live for so long your the greatest Achivement made in Kanes AI research
KABAl knew about them but was unable to control them as they were not linked to his system and where they were was known only to Kane and a few trusted people no one else even knew about them they were already to be deployed when the other AI legion was able to be fully deployed this led to them being unable to be used by Kabal
Interesting. But despite their history with cyborgs and CABAL, NOD still use tons of cyborg during the ascension conflict. I mean, all will consider it not a cannon but too me, the units and their lore in C&C4 quite interesting.
This is yet a big plot hole that makes the Marked of Kane's existence very questionable. CABAL and Kane shared their knowledge, what Kane knew, CABAL knew as well. So it's impossible that he wouldn't have known about the Marked. It was just an addition for the sake of another sub-faction for Kane's wrath, which is unfortunate because I actually do like the idea, it begs the question, why even make use of the corpses of the fallen if the whole point is not have human emotions? Why not just make machines that are 100% fully obedient to Kane's will only?

Its interesting to see how Kane was trying to create his own version of the Scrin. The Scrin were Bio-Macanical entities that used Tiberium as everything.
The Marked of Kane were Full Mecanical entities that also use tiberium. The difference is there. And even more, the reason why the Scrin werent able to know more about Kane was because their Command didnt wanted to stay on earth and risk his own life for the Overlord. The Marked would stay on earth and fullfil the mission
Also for some reason Awakened squads in game take tiberium exposure damage and I assume the Enlightened suffer from this issue too.

I always thought Cabal was under Kane's control during this event all along.
I just want to say thank you for making these videos! They are amazing! I love the lore of the Tiberium Universe, such a fascinating one.
@@Ontinara Yet CABAL could still be like a ghost in the machine that is LEGION. Still I like CABAL way more and hate how EA just killed it off. It was the best Villain of command and conquer next to Kane.
@@burninghalls oh for real fighting him felt like humanity was on the back foot the whole time. Having him be a sleeper in LEGION would have been fun. Was looking for this comment. Omnissiah bless.
Originally I thought Kane was actually cabal and was using him to enact his will but not reveal it to be himself cause if he failed (which cabal did) then nod would lose trust, faith and loyalty to Kane
So to prevent this Kane used cabal to be his darker side without revealing it to his loyalist.
Fun fact about the Awakened:
They can also use the Particle Cannon that Black Hand (and what the Enlightened start with) have! The difficult part is acquiring it- needing to capture a BH tech center.
This is easiest seen on the final mission of Kane’s Wrath.
Command & Conquer + Jethild = Marked for Watching. Great video on C&C lore, always waiting for the next one.

me and my brother have a personal headcannon for the Marked of Kane that I would like to share here. But we do consider Ra1 to be connected to the Tiberium lore for it
There is a good chance that the Marked of Kane are the final throws of old Soviet cyborg tech (potentially started under orders of Kane himself). The Marked of Kane are nothing more than Cabal's final robotic army which never got used during the firestorm crisis but bolstered with modern (?) weapons
In an unrelated note, I do wish the MoK Redeemer had more nods (get it XD ) to CABAL and the Core Defender
Ra1 is connected
It*
My theory is that CABAL had always operated under Kane's command, even when it supposedly "went rogue".
@@soulgamer612 the cover art awakened is so much cooler than the shity in game version and the concept art version
@@bernholtz1 yeah I meant that version. A shame it didn’t translate in-game
If you use a saboteur and hijack a black hand shrine or tech center I think you can get particle beams for the awakened as well.
I am impress someone doing command and conquer lore great story telling
I was always under the idea that CABAL was the lead creator of the army, after the joint attack by NOD and GDI and the destruction of his larger Tiberium field harvesting and cyborg factories units too far away from the combat where put into “cells” as to not let them fall as fail safe, only then awoken by Kane years later.
We do know he did something like this. GDI spent years hunting down cabals bunkers until almost the 3rd war.
I would read that whole entry, but specifically there is this last paragraph which says:
"The path was long and arduous, and outside of a few promising developments - the most notable being the cyborg armies of CABAL - far from successful. Eventually, the Second Tiberium War drew to a close, the Marked of Kane finally near completion. However, it was too late to save Nod and the Marked of Kane were left to slumber deep beneath the Earth, awaiting their master's call..."
This seems to imply that they were in development during TW2 and were very close to completion but it was too late for NoD to make use of them since Kane had been wounded by McNeil and put into stasis, which put Slavik in charge who, along with other members of the Inner Circle, did not seem to know about the existence of the MoK specifically.
@@Jethild That bit of intel makes it clear, thanks.

Cyborgs are cool and scary at the same time!

I think that Kane didn't really trust anyone with the marked of Kane. After all Legion wasn't informed of them till he was reawakened. Till then the AI had to make due with normal forces for its missions even though the marked were done and ready for use.
We also must remember Kane intended to lose the 3rd war. Revealing hid trjmp card would only lead to it's destruction.
Wait a moment, Cyborg warriors, Dr. Gero... Is there some third source material that Dragonball Z and C&C are both referring to? Is C&C referencing DBZ? Idk.
You are right. I don't why I never noticed this. So if in Nod are dr. Gero and cyborgs, there also should be the ultimate Nod cyborg like Cell xD
No wtf are you saying it's just a coincidence
I took over the GDI base first, then woke up the cyborgs, whoopsie! XD
Behold, for i shall open the vaults and cause them to arise onto the land and they shall be legion.

Perfect
Cyborgs and a "Dr. Gero" now where have I heard that before... cough cough DBZ cough cough...

It was just an addition for the sake of another sub-faction for Kane's wrath, which is unfortunate because I actually do like the idea, it begs the question, why even make use of the corpses of the fallen if the whole point is not have human emotions?
