- Description
In this woodworking tips video I’ll show you how to build a cedar bird house for just $3 in materials. Making a birdhouse is a fun beginners woodworking project. To help you build this cedar birdhouse, I’ve included a link for woodworking plans. This DIY birdhouse is a fantastic homemade gift for Christmas or for any other holiday.
I’ll go into detail about the bird house and even give some good woodworking tips along the way. To show you shouldn't need fancy tools, I’m going to do all of this build with basic woodworking tools. I’ll be using a Ridgid drill, a Ridgid jigsaw, a Bostich brad nailer and a Makita circular saw. You can also do a lot of this with you table saw, if you have one.
I have several other cool woodworking projects table saw jigs and scrap wood projects like this on the rest of my channel and on my website. howidothingsdiy.com/plans/ols...

My kids are so excited now to build a birdhouse!
I love hearing that. That's fantastic!
This is awesome. Thanks for putting it together. Gonna try and put this together with my son today.
You're welcome!
Awesome! I think it needs a couple of vent holes on the floor and inside near roof though.
Ok. Thank you.
Very good.I would have added some drainage holes under the base.
Great idea! Thanks for adding that!
Great video! love the plans people ask me all the time. I don't know how to start making plans 😕
Thank you!
Very nice!
Thank you for teaching us!!
My pleasure!
You need to make it easy to clean out after the nesting season is over!
I did! Just unscrew the top. Thanks for the comment.
The prices have dropped a lot here in florida for wood birdhouses making them no longer a money maker..nice ones for $10..
Oh wow! Well, I never intended this to be for anyone to make money. More of a fun project to do as a family. Thanks for the comment!
@@HowIDoThingsDIY Not your fault lol..I use to build them about 15 years ago and you could make money with them..after watching your vid I looked and was shocked how the prices dropped.someone is selling the same model you make in this video...
How/where would you add eye holes to hang on a hook?
Do you mean the kind you would hang on a nail and slide it down onto it? I'm not really sure what you're asking.
Can you make a video showing how to cut a 4'x8' board on the table saw? There's videos on TH-cam, but none of the ones I've seen use a portable table saw
Well, it can be tough and dangerous, especially on a jobsite table saw. I would actually recommend using a circular saw with a straight guide or even better a tracksaw. th-cam.com/video/00wXEfpjs04/w-d-xo.html
@@HowIDoThingsDIY I basically was doing that but I’m cutting 48, 2 inch wide pieces with a circular saw on a track and figured it would be way easier using a table saw.
Ok, I got you. The key is to have good support. An outfeed table would be ideal, but I've also moved my saw so I could use my workbench as temporary outfeed table. I've also used a Kreg rip cut. It's actually pretty good for what you're describing. amzn.to/3JLfVzQ
@@HowIDoThingsDIY Ok thank you for your help. It's hard figuring out the correct and safe way to go about projects like mine as a newbie. I appreciate the help :)
No problem. Anytime you're trying to remove a small strip from a large piece of sheet stock, it can be very dangerous. Be careful!
How long did it take to build
A few hours, but I was also filming.
How do I get the plans

I love to sit and enjoy watching the birds.
@@brendamcknight779 Oh ya! So relaxing. I like watching little turf war fights break out over bird seed. Haha
were is the blue print?

Just looked up the oil you used its $65 for 9 ounces might want to retitle the video $3-$100 bird feeder
Ha. Sorry. You don't need to use that oil or any oil for that matter. That was just an extra step I took. I'm sure there are cheaper options that would also be safe for the birds. You may be able to get the oil locally and save money.
I think a dowel sticking out of the front under the entrance hole would be a good perch.
Now the birdhouse people say that the perch is a bad idea because bigger birds can use it to eat the baby's
I thought about it, but decided on going with the "porch."
Interesting. I didn't know that!
I like it would be a good plan for father & son bonding activity 😉
For sure!
Unless I missed it, there isn’t a clean out door. Without one, this is a decoration, not a bird house.
Ya, you must have missed it. I made one piece of the roof screwed on for clean out.

Yup, one side of the top unscrews. Thanks for the comment!
Love when people act like they can’t just unscrew a side and clean out 🙄
@@DJAWoodWorksYa, easy peasy.
You missed it..
Yup. One of the tops is screwed on so you can remove it.
