    Spock saying he is in control of his emotions and then desperately trying to regain his composure while crying uncontrollably is a mood

    People forget that spock isn't less emotional than humans, he's more. Vulcans are naturally extremely, self destructongly emotional and have intentionally severed themselves from it through logic over many generations.
    Add that to Spocks human side and you can get extreme emotion.

    Spock grabbing Kirk and shouting his name in relief and pure happiness is one of the best things I have ever seen in my life

  • @colwellalec

    How Spock reacts in "Amok Time" to realizing he didn't kill Kirk during the Pon Farr really shows how strong his friendship with Kirk is, as well as the love he is capable of in spite of being half Vulcan, and in my opinion is his biggest genuine emotional outburst in the series. A lot of the other ones happened because he was being influenced by some outside force. Leonard Nimoy was just such a talented actor.

    Amok time's ending is great. Spock goes from confused "Captain?" to overjoyed "JIM!" In a second before reapplying his emotional control. Then embarrassed as he knows McCoy's going to have a field day.

    If you really think about it, Vulcans are the saddest species in all of Star Trek.

    • @NickMartinproductions
      @NickMartinproductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hybrid human Vulcans are sad.. Vulcans themselves evolved on their planet to showing no emotion over millennia. I assume a lot of it is based on Sha Ka Ree & their knowledge of the universe, which is vast.

    • @vandalg282
      @vandalg282 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      They were full of emotions before Surak showed them the way....however, Spock goes in plenty, on how sad he truly is, even his father, when he mind melds with Jean Luc, expresses deep sorrow through him of course, its so crippling even Picard has to take a moment.

  • @lawandabailey7480
    @lawandabailey7480 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I like it that Spock has these experiences. He cried, he fell in love, he felt rage and had a brush with death. It lets me know that Vulcans have flaws too. Good ones.

    • @vandalg282
      @vandalg282 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Half human, all of the emotion...he talks about it being damn near impossible or crippling, to withhold each and every emotion. Though in the comics he does talk about engaging in "human like activities", petting a cat for example, or enjoying a song or two.

    • @Kulsprutejojjo
      @Kulsprutejojjo ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jessicarabbit439 To be fair, he does have more than enough moments in the show to make up for his meanspirited comments towards Spock. Heck, even the scene referred to here has one of these moments, it merely cuts off before he manages to help Spock get ahold of himself. Also, the Plato's Stepchildren segment that is featured in this video is another similar moment. Goes to show that even in the show proper, Bones cares more about Spock than he cares to admit, even in the original show.

    This side of paradise is probably my most loathed emotional Spock episode. My brain just can’t handle what I like to term ‘high’ Spock.
    I much prefer Journey to Babel and my favorites Amok Time, All Our Yesterday and just about every scene after the meld in Turnabout Intruder.

    I think one of those emotions was the pon farr, the time when many vulcans, due to the fact that they have no emotions, have the sudden and inescapable urge to reproduce. If humans didn't do it for almost a decade, we probably would also have some sort of pon farr as well.

      To me it adds more to it. It takes itself seriously but without the tryhard edgy nonsense the new shows have. Scifi then was way more colorful or campy at times and that's what makes it unique
