    I just stumbled on this video and I was so glad that you shared this because I also use 2P-10 to fill open grains! It works great! I will actually mist some activator over the surface once the glue has been spread and the wood is completely covered. Great product!...but that's Fastcap!

      +Renew Furniture So what is the activator for? What does it do? (forgive me; I'm a layman on these things)

    • @furniturerefinishingbyrene8653
      @furniturerefinishingbyrene8653 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +51MontyPython the activator is a liquid that, when it makes contact with the glue, will almost instantly harden/cure it. Normally when using this glue made by Fastcap, you would apply the glue on one surface and then spray the activator on the the other surface before putting them together...but be warned - it does dry almost instantly. So in the case of using it as a filler, we apply the glue, spread it around and then "hit" it with the activator so we can keep moving. Does that help? :) It is pretty tough to sand off, so run a test first to get comfortable with the results for sure.

    My eyes and throat are burning just thinking about the CA smell. Shades of my youth getting more glue smell than I want when gluing ribs in an RC airplane wood while sitting too close (for wanting to get a perfect close-up view) to the work.

    Hello thank you for the education. But what grit sandpaper do you use when sanding the full guitar down. What grit do you begin using on the hardened 2p-10 and up to what grade? and do you just have to use one coat or is it based on if it completely filled the pours? Thank you!

  • @5hredder
    @5hredder 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    wow, using superglue to act as the first base coat/filler... that is a quick way to do things i suppose, although the method shown for application probably isn't the quickest way to do it because it would require more sanding to compensate for the troughs and valleys that the uneven spreading creates.

    You know, that's a shame. Rosewood, wich is called here in Brazil "jacarandá", it's all but extinct, and yet, it's still used to make something as ephemeral as a guitar. The same thing happens to the very tree that gave Brazil it's name: Pau-Brasil.

      FastCap
      Is it necessary in your opinion to apply a finish on top of the sealer, for protection of the wood from humidity changes, or should the sealer alone be sufficient enough? I may want to try it that way because I feel like the more you throw on there the more it takes away from the wood's natural resonance and tone.

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +51MontyPython It's a good point. I think ultimately it's just up to your personal opinion what you think is best for the musical instrument. Paul

    Is using 2P-10 just for lacquer finishes ?

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kenny Lilly 2P-10 can be used on any material as long as it is clean and the surface is well prepared. The surface should be clean, with no oil, and slightly etched so the glue can bite more effectively. It should not be used in lieu of a weld (on metal), but it is very effective for tacking, to hold a piece in place.

    WOw this is great advice here. It's amazing how beautiful a project comes out when you put in some elbow grease. I love how tung oil doesn't leave dust nibs and hairs in your finish like poly does. It's also a bonus that the finished wood just begs to be caressed like a $3000 gun stock or a Taylor guitar. I've been using this tung oil that is made with orange peels, smells awesome! orangetungoil.com

    It seems like a luthier should understand the importance of giving credit for music that isn’t their own... in this case, “Rylynn” by Andy McKee was played but credit was never given to the musician. Seems like it wouldn’t have been so time consuming considering the large notes section you have already created.
