20 minute Full Body Standing Strength Workout with Dumbbells | Seniors, Beginners

  • This 20 minute full body strength workout will build muscle in your arms, legs, back, and core. We use dumbbells with these standing exercises, but you can use anything with weight such as water bottles or cans. The goal is to use weight that is challenging for you.
    The 7 exercises are done in 30-second intervals. Aim to do 8 to 12 repetitions during each interval. We do two rounds of the exercises.
    ✳️ Mini traditional squats
    ✳️ Rows
    ✳️ Mini sumo squats
    ✳️ Rows with a tricep kickback
    ✳️ Reverse lunges
    ✳️ Bicep curls
    ✳️ Wood Chops
    This workout can be done at least twice a week on its own or with another yes2next workout.

    Hi both. Have just done this workout with just 2lb dumbbells as have funny right shoulder. Really good. Then followed with your 10 mins walking one. You both make it fun and explain well. Thanks so much xx

    Thank you, dear ladies. You are helping me to stretch, warm up, spend 10 minutes walking and now strength training with weights. I am in my elder years so I do so appreciate the calm, relaxing music. The instructions are so clear and I am able to follow them with ease. Please keep posting videos as I see on your menu some challenges I want to engage in as the new year approaches in 3 1/2 months. I hope to be doing longer and longer workouts in the future. Oh, I really enjoy the kitty in the videos.

    Thank you for this! I'm a breast cancer survivor and am currently in chemical menopause for the next 5-10 years and my body feels older than I am because of it. I've been looking for workouts I can do to loosen up and build muscles back up and there aren't many. I used to be able to do more and it's so hard finding workouts that I can do to build my body back up (many are geared toward young, already-in-shape people without joint issues). This was one I could do and gives me so much hope that I can workout and do strength training again.

      Me too. I’m recovering from a long illness and now have adrenal fatigue so I feel pretty awful for the last two years. I’m trying to get my strength back and heal my adrenals.     I really love you guys! Your method of exercising fits me to a T! I’m an OB 66 year old woman that recently had a total hip surgery replacement in September. I haven’t mastered it yet but I am trying to do one of your videos Monday through Friday. 20 minutes is my limit at the moment. My vision is 30 minutes on a regular basis one day.

      First, great job for focusing on building muscle and strength! Picking the right weight depends on your level of fitness. For a given exercise, a general guide is that it should feel challenging by the 8th or 10th repetition if you're aiming for 10 repetitions. So using no weight at all is fine if you're just starting out. The goal is to get comfortable with the exercise and add weight when you're ready.     I love these two ladies and the incremental movement toward small goals, then larger. Even though I belong to a very nice athletic club, I still love to work out with Iko and April. These two gals have helped me come out of a long standing depression, because they gave me goals I could approach, then master, then move on. It's as if I am having two friends over and no matter how messy my house might look, I can just tune into one of these videos, do some exercises, then find my vim and verve to get on with my housework. Iko and April are the best deal going. Very thankful and grateful to have found them.

      I did this weight workout for first time today. I heard on radio that weights or resistance training very important to maintain function. I am 73 years old. I walk daily but will add this workout too. It was very enjoyable

    I started with your 10 minute walking workout on 3/7/23. It is now 4/12/23. I do your 20 minute walk and 20 minute strength with dumbells 4 times a week. Thank-you for being patient! My BP is now NORMAL and my heart rate has dropped 20 beats per minute. I was "scared" because of my heart rate back in March. Today, my heart rate was 72 beats per minute, down from an average of 95. You two are the best!!!!!

    I would love to see more of these full-body strength workouts using dumbbells. 20 minutes seems to be an ideal time for me, too. I have been working out for just over 4 years, but am always on the lookout for fun and interesting videos like yours. I try to avoid getting in a rut with my routines, and your approach to the workout is heartening to me.
    I will be 68 in a month. Thank you!

    I mean no harm. In today's exercise I felt like a carbon based machine. No mercy on myself as no one ever hugged me except Iris, and she had no right to do that. But after viewing one of her high school photos that I enlarged I was astounded. I could not believe it. Without even going into the details I found someone who was more abused than me and she only asked for help graduating so that she could qualify for get a job. my promise was so powerful that every person that abused her was put on notice. no more and after 35 years she remembers and is now a big girl (happy) I say i am nothing so please tell Aiko I apologize. I saw your 20 minute HIIT and i felt sadness. So I went back to the smaller minute exercise and I am now learning your language or communication.. I am Authoritative and sensitive. So she is a go getter at 80 years old and she is strong and happy and now I can release myself of the promise to Iris and it huts so badly as I am alone again with my machine self. So thanks April for the gifts to challenge myself but the real challenge is to love myself with no examples to go bye except rescue of others. This exercise was my happy moment so after 18 reps in 30 seconds. I remembered Brene' Browns words. "He is like special forces men -he fights on even after death all he needs is an air drop for resupply (energy) and I just love this place. (The Earth) forgive me please! Thank You so much.

      Hi there! Welcome to the yes2next family! Yes, it's very common to have an extra tire as we age. Your body gains and loses weight where it wants to. Everyone is different and hormones and menopause can affect this as well. Losing pounds at your waist and overall occurs when you decrease calories through a healthy diet and burn calories with exercise.
      If you have done our high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts or any of our workouts with moderate intensity, you are working on blasting belly fat! HIIT workouts burn more calories/fat in a shorter period of time. They include raising and lowering your heart rate in intervals such as 30 seconds of exercise -- at the end of an exercise interval you should be a little out of breath. I recommend doing HIIT workouts 1 to 3 times a week with at least one day of rest between each session to let your body recover.       Also, I recommend strengthening your core along with your cardio workouts. Many of our cardio workouts feature core building exercises (bit.ly/3cutAuo) that will help you build strength and define your muscles so they pop when you shed pounds.

    With chronic sciatica & spinal problems going to the gym is not good. Finding your channel, I’m hoping I can do some fitness at home without ending up bed ridden.

    This was a wonderful pace and I will be doing this video numerous times as I am able to increase weights with it. I love your calm nature and it feels more about just getting my body moving, not trying to keep up a crazy pace of other workout programs. THANK YOU!!! (As a cat person, I think Mochi needs to have a spotlight in all your videos!) :) :)

    Wow, I so enjoyed this full body workout. I was able to use my 5 pounds weights and keep up with you. Love your exercises. Thanks so much for being here for the people over 50 years of age. I so enjoy being able to see Mochi, Aiko and you so much.

    Thank you, April, and your Mom, Aiko. The exercises are allowing me to choose the positive life. So the positive memories are kept in the forefront while I exercise and there are many good memories. I accept that the people of my past that were positive to me have now given me the opportunity to live a life of tribute for the gifts they gave to me.
