I also secure the sleeve with a bit of tape, depending on the viscosity of the epoxy it can sometimes push the sleeve back out a bit before hardening if you don't.
That works great as well! I have found with moving the rod in and out of the carbon tube and spinning it you get a lot of the trap air out and then with spinning and moving the aluminum sleeve up and down you can actually watch the air bubbles push out and it doesn’t move But you could always be safe and put a little piece of tape to hold it while it cures
Thank you! I try my best to be the best wire helicopter person in the game lol that is what sets my builds so far apart from others. You’ve got this, just do some practice cramps before trying your servos.
I hope to maiden this thing next week! Been waiting on a Vbar EVO and will be here in a day or two. Nitro is definitely awesome as well! Love my nitro. It would be cool for SAB to bring out a nitro RAW 500!
I like the idea of using the ec5 adapter for the proprietary battery tray connection. I wish I had done that on my 420 I also like the canopy of the 500 better than the 420. How it mounts seems superior to how the 420 does it with the stick-on rubber grommets. If I didn’t have a 420, batteries, trays, extra blades, extra booms, I would have gone 500. Thinking they’re too close in size to have both. I have a 420, 580, and 700. Probably doesn’t make sense to buy a 500 and have to buy more batteries.
I just pulled the trigger on this Heli. All the parts should be here Friday. I will be following your build, and I look forward to the Maiden. From the looks of it, I will have to go through part 1, but it looks like I'll be using the same Motor/ESC as you, but an MSH Brain 2 FBL, and Torq CL Servos. I would like to try that FBL you have someday. Congrats on another GREAT build!
Dear Jeff, just another perfect video. Thank you very much. Is there also a video on how to setup this heli (or another heli) with the FBL Bavarian Demon Axon? Thank you very much.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately I don’t have a video on the Axon setup. I put a Vbar EVO on this model and took the Axon off before setup. But, I plan to do a setup very soon!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thank you for your quick response. A video with the Bavarian Demon Axon combined with a Spektrum receiver (e.g. Spektrum AR 8020T) would be my exact setup. I'm planning to build a SAB Goblin Raw 420 and such a video would help me a lot. Thank you and have a nice day.
So I was not, the main reason was because Brian the owner decided he wanted to go Vbar after it was already built. But! The helicopter is still together. I did not remove the FBL yet, as I am waiting on the Vbar and you, as well as someone else commented asking for Axon set up. So, I will do it just for you guys!
Thanks Jeff, I have set mine up but a lesson on it would be great. Oddly I haven’t tried the Ikon brand yet, mainly because it bad enough jumping from the Beastx, the Demon and the Futaba. I will be swapping out the Beastx’s for a try on the Ikon. Great videos.
Another great build. Sweet machine. I need to save some of my $$ I'm making from all these classic car repairs and get serious about getting back into this hobby.
Hey, I'm also building the RAW 500 and since this my first 500 built, two questions have come up: do I have to program the Hobby Wing Platinum 80A and set up a governor? And can I use approximately the same throttle and pitch curve values as you showed in the video for the Goosky RS4? I was looking for a video with the transmitter setup for the RAW 500, but you haven't done one if I'm not wrong. Thank you in advance!
Hello! The RAW is an awesome build. I set this one up on Vbar so thats why there is not a setup video. But I’m building one soon on ikon so I can do a setup on that. No, you don’t need to set the Hobbywing. It’s perfect out of the box. Governor can be done either in the Hobbywing or FBL. If you choose ESC then you will want to set Govstore for the Governor. You can start there and adjust your head speed as needed. Pitch curve is the same in every model I do I just set pitch to +/- 13.5 degrees.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Hello, thank you very much for the explanations! Indeed, it looks awesome eventhough it's not completely built up yet. And by the way, I would like to mention that your videos are very helpful, especially for an advanced beginner like me. I built the Goosky RS4 and thanks to your videos on building it, I assembled it with no problem and it flies just great. Keep it up like that!
So this mode is switched to Vbar but waiting on a Vbar EVO to get here so! I’m going to do an Axon setup video before I take it apart and put a Vbar in it.
Jeff, besides lower maintenance and potential better crash resistance, what are the advantages of a direct drive main driven rotor vs one with a spur gear? Does one fly better than the other? So far my two Goosky S1 and S2s are the only direct drive helis ive ever had and I love them. The S1 can take a pounding and keep going. If it had a spur gear it likely would have stripped on me by now. As far as flight characteristics it seems more powerful but I don't currently own any modern helis with spur gears to compare it to.
So no there is no flight performance differences really. Main thing is simplicity and lower parts count but you get a quieter running set up. Less drag and resistance in the drive train, more of an instant torque. DD helis are great but so are traditional motor pinion style set ups. But! Down sides are your stuck to that power or motor. So it has its ups and downs.
@@LichaelMewis as of right now no. I’m sure that will change but your limited to KV. They have to be low to be able to swing the rotor. But! I’m about to do a regular motor conversion on the 420 to see first hand what the power difference is!
Love this stuff! No idea why I’ve gone this long with out using it. Been changing all my battery trays and helis over. When it gets dirty you can just use wash it with soup and water it even alcohol on a rag and it’s right back to brand new! Super sticky and nice you don’t need to use tape or Velcro on your battery’s.
Thanks so much for taking the time for the 3 part build! So very helpful😊

Hello Jeff, you are on another level. great vid. do you have build business?
Hello! Thank you! I appreciate that. Yes, I build for people. I have a email in the video description, you can email me there if you need.
Hi , can you show us for the servo cable with a "heat shrink" ? Thanks
Hello! I’ll make a special video just on that!
Nice jobb Jeff as usual ;) , Orange or Yellow what do you prefer or like more

And the flight times are similar? (I am thinking in the fact that this CNHL 3000 mAh pack is very light)
