- Many believe Wing Chun doesn't work in a fight, but as a lifelong martial artist, I want to be inclusive to all ideas. While I was skeptical at first, Qi La La has proven to both me, a skeptical BJJ practitioner, and the world that Wing Chun can work! He has applied these skills in the cage and in the ring under bis opponents' rulesets. He deserves much praise and respect from the martial arts community for his abilities and his humility to spar outside of his world of Wing Chun.
The specific ruleset we are sparring under is KOD (King of Dragons) held at DFA (Dragon Fighting Arts) in Taiwan. It is a multi-style tournament under special rules. It only has 10 seconds on the ground and there are no leg grabs unless it's a caught kick, knee, or check, and all kinds of ground and pound are allowed including upkicks to a grounded opponent which are illegal in MMA. This may be more realistic for a street fight since theres only a limited amount of time on the ground in a street fight before someone breaks up the fight or kicks someone's head in.
