Location Location Fact: The fictional Nakatomi Plaza is the headquarters of 20th Century Studios, so the studio could use one of its own buildings and didn't have to hold back on stunts and action sequences. While Jeb Stuart was writing the screenplay, he did a tour of the building, and immediately incorporated some of the locations and objects he found there into his script as set pieces. The company charged itself rent for the use of the then-unfinished building. Some of the middle floors were occupied by legal and administrative departments, so only empty floors were used for filming. Still, the filming of scenes that involved gunfire had to be postponed until after hours because some of the employees from the active floors started to complain about the noise.

It's not. Just because a movie is set during Christmas it doesn't make it a Christmas movie. It's a superb action thriller with light Christmas theme around it. That's what Die Hard is
Alan Rickman is excellent in this movie. Some also know him as Professor Snape in Harry Potter. When he fell from the tower at the end it his expression is real. They had to drop him some and he is afraid of heights. They told him to count and then they would drop him. But on purpose they dropped him too early; hence his realistic scared expression

The shot of Hans falling from the building was a real stuntman falling. They built a mechanism where a cable attached to a stuntman allows him to freefall to a point then a brake slows the cable gradually. My question though, who's the first stuntman to ever test the rig? 😮
One of my favorite movies ever. I was 17 when this came out in 1988 and, in the years since, I have made it a tradition to watch it every Christmas Eve. It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi building. Bruce Willis and the late Alan Rickman were both amazing in their respective roles. If you want to see another amazing movie, check out the 1974 disaster film The Towering Inferno. It is my favorite disaster film ever and is one of the granddaddies of all disaster films. That one and 1972's The Poseidon Adventure are basically the blueprint for what a disaster film should be. The Towering Inferno's three lead roles are played by Paul Newman as the architect who designed the building, Faye Dunaway as his girlfriend and my favorite actor, Steve McQueen, as the battalion chief in the San Francisco Fire Department trying to fight the fire and save the people trapped in the building.
Have loved this movie since I first saw it on VHS as a kid. I've always felt it had a very "Indiana Jones" vibe to it, including the character of John McClane. Very intense, very action-driven, but also with a lot of humor.
That "such a good bad guy" is the very talented Alan Rickman. He actually won a BAFTA for playing a really bad baddie in Robin Hood. His best known role was as Snape in Harry Potter.
As a fan of action movies in the '80's (Born 1970, so I was a teenager), there's a certain context that is lost about this movie. Compared to most of them (Except for top-tier ones like 'Aliens'), 'Die Hard' was BRUTALLY realistic. When my friends and I first saw it shortly after release, we were amazed at how plausible they made everything seem. Even things like reloading guns, so many movies before this never even bothered to keep track of. My Dad loved it because John McClane felt so much like a normal guy and not a Superhuman. The film was also notable in that prior to this, Bruce Willis was NOT thought of as an action star. So much so that it was seen as a risk to give him the role. Prior to this his biggest role was in the TV Show, 'Moonlighting', which was definitely not an action series. There was even a small shout-out to the show in the bickering between John and Holly, as Bruce's and Cybill Shepard's bickering in Moonlighting was legendary.
The Die Hard and Rambo movie series are great action movies that the both of you can definitely get into and check out. Plus, basically any Arnold action movies are excellent as well. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the both of you as well ❤️👍🎄.
2 things...Home Alone was AFTER Die Hard. Also, the criminals in HA were idiots. The criminals in DH were brilliant and competent. John McClane was just more motivated and had the advantage of surprise.
Seeing that you guys really liked this one, definitely continue the series. Die Hard 2 and 3 are definitely worth watching. Not as good as the first, the first one will always be the best, but the first 2 of the sequels are absolutely worth a watch.
Lethal Weapon (1986) is another Christmas action movie worth watching, if you haven't already. In fact, action movies that take place at Christmas was kind of a weird eighties phenomenon. Die Hard is the most famous example (and arguably the best of the bunch) but it certainly wasn't the only one, or even the first.
I am new here but thank you both for a great reaction channel. I will say one thing though. Either your wife is a GREAT actress or she really enjoyed Die Hard. (for my money she just enjoyed one of our favorite movies. 👍
Die Hard was in 1988 and Home Alone was in 1990, so it is more that Home Alone was the children's version of Die Hard. The Die Hard release occurred after the mid-80s wave of muscle-man uber-action films where largely invulnerable mega-men owned dozens of bad guys at a time. The John McClane character was the refreshing breeze after this period (Bruce Willis was previously in Moonlighting and no one thought he was a realistic action hero) as the gritty hero that outlasted and outwitted his enemies. A great landmark film.
The Building in this movie was owned by 20TH Century Fox it’s based in Century City California I’ve been there a few times. Such an Amazing way to save money and get a Huge reaction from your own Company 😂 This was Alan Rickman’s Debut role as the Villain and man did it pay off. The chemistry between the two was just Awesome even down to Reginald VelJohnson and McClaine. Greatest Christmas movie ever! Oh and the end scene they ended up dropping Alan early it was supposed to be 3 but they let him go on 2 for the Best reaction I mean that Face said it all! 😂😂😂
Hey guys! As I recall, at this time, Bruce Willis was best known for being a wisecracking P.I. on a show called "Moonlighting". But then he got this gig and they rewrote the modern Action Movie genre (and *Christmas Movie* genre, too!). And the rest is history. Very sad about Bruce's current situation, though... Anyway, great job! 😉👍 (Goooo Rock Band, btw. I never could master drums, though... haha)
Right, recommendations. Well, first of all, _The long kiss goodnight_ and _The last Boy Scout._ They're both scripted by Shane Black, who is brilliant, and _Boy Scout_ even features Bruce Willis. _Long kiss_ has Geena Davis as the heroine and Samuel L Jackson, and the script is sizzling. Someone elsewhere in the comments suggests _Speed,_ and I would second that. _Predator,_ the first in the franchise, is not to be missed, and the most recent _Prey_ is also very good. Then there's the _Bourne_ movies with Matt Damon, of which the first two are the best; I'm gonna finish with _Leon: the professional_ starring Jean Reno and a very young Natalie Portman, who absolutely kills it as a naive but fierce girl who wants to avenge the death of her entire family. That should keep you going for a bit!
A stuntman did do that fall into an airbag. And the reason why Alan Rickman looked terrified is because he was! For the close-up falling shot, he was hanging on a wire above a Blue Screen. And they filmed two limited falls with a quick break on the wire. They weren't getting what they wanted so, on the third fall, the director actually let him fall 30 feet before hitting the break. So that look of absolute terror on his face is real. He thought that he was actually falling.
@@paulmartin2348 If it's on the internet, it MUST be TRUE! I'll stick to the behind-the-scenes interview with the director (John McTiernan) extra on the DieHard BlueRay.
One of the best action movies ever made, and the very best action crime villain thanks to Alan Rickman's brilliant performance. Everyone is smart and capable but never invulnerable. Hart Bochner was also excellent as the quintessential corporate douchebag. C-4 Is a but more powerful that TNT, with an expansion velocity over 26,000 feet per second.
John McClane is the OG "every day man" action hero. Sure he is a cop, but he isnt a hand-to-hand combat expert fighter like a Van Damme, or ex-war veteran super jacked characters that Schwarzenegger or Stallone were portraying that were dominating the 80s action movie genre at that time. It opened the doors for more possibilities for the genre as a smart, well plotted, story driven movie and not just an excuse to blow things up and shoot up dozens of people.
It's not a christmas movie, it's an action movie with a christmas set piece. It would be the same movie if it was at a new years eve party. The countdown to midnight might even be more of a tension builder. Even the creators state it's not a christmas movie and Bruce Willis says it's not a christmas movie, it's a Bruce Willis movie...
The trivia behind this movie is amazing . Bruce Willis was consider to be a joke to be cast in an action movie. The way the movie was shot changed action movies forever . Bruce lost some of his hearing due to the explosions and gun fire. Alan Rickman's first movie. The actor who played Karl was a world renown ballet dancer who's defection was made into a movie itself
Bruce Willis was known for Moonlighting and singing before this hit cinemas. Trailers shown actually had people laughing out loud when they saw Willis' tough guy character. Fears at the studio were so high that Willis was removed from the marketing material and the poster simply showed the building. How little did we all know. Fun fact when the van opens and the goons step out there is no ambulance in the back as they had not written the ending yet. Also the journalist was called "Dick" Thornburg and the two FBI guys were called "Johnson". Paul Gleason who played Dept. Dwayne T Robinson playes the absolute worst dick in The Breakdfast Club (which SHOULD be on your list). Top action movies ; - The Raid 1 & 2 - Indonesian but directed by a Welshman Gareth Evans (watch Gangs of London TV !) - Commando & Predator - Schwarzenegger's infinitely quotable, cheesy but fun 80s action romps - Dredd - Alex Garland (The Beach) gritty sci-fi cult classic - Sicario - Denis Vilnueve (Dune) with Emily Blunt getting sucked into CIA black ops against Mexican drug cartels with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro - Elite Squad 1 & 2 - this is not for reviewers as nobody is ever going to do this. This is for the fans of these channels. These are the story of the police enforcers that work in the Favela in Rio de Janeiro, a story of abuse of power and police corruption. ES 2 is a top five film of mine.
39:00: Well, and he's not invulnerable. A lot of action heroes previously would just either miraculously not get hit no matter how much the bad guys fired at them, or walk it off like it was a mosquito bite. John gets really roughed up through the film, to the point audiences seeing it when it came out wondered if he was going to survive. It adds to the tension and drama, the he accumulates wounds and damage, that his effectiveness steadily drops through the movie, so the final showdown, where he's barely hanging on physically and has only two bullets left, the tension is unbearable.
Die Hard 2 and 3, Speed, True Lies, Commando, Under Siege, Heat, The Negotiator, Executive Decision, The Rock, Matrix Trilogy...there's more, but I'm having a brain fart. These should start you off...
Merry Christmas Chandra and Jordan! This may have been my favorite reaction video y'all put out. Your video is the perfect example of the reaction a well written action movie with incredibly charismatic leads should illicit. I never thought of it, but your Home Alone comparison was spot on. Die Hard is a high bar for action movies, but I think True Lies (directed by the great Canadian James Cameron) is an action movie you'd both love.
This was filmed long before 9/11. It was a time when people could walk into an airport and go to a gate to meet their loved ones as they exited the planes. Good luck trying to do that now a days. Also, did you notice Bruce smoking in the airport? That doesn't happen anymore either.
C4 is pretty powerful but here's the funny thing, it's inert. Without an explosive charge to set it off, it's just a type of clay. You can make a flowerpot out of it.

Well, you’ve seen Home Alone & Die Hard. Now is the time (or next Christmas) to watch Violent Night - - a movie made by fans of both movies.
Have loved this movie since I first saw it on VHS as a kid. I've always felt it had a very "Indiana Jones" vibe to it, including the character of John McClane. Very intense, very action-driven, but also with a lot of humor.
You guys need to do at least up to Die Hard 3!
That "such a good bad guy" is the very talented Alan Rickman. He actually won a BAFTA for playing a really bad baddie in Robin Hood. His best known role was as Snape in Harry Potter.
He's also the guy playing the actor playing the alien doctor in Galaxy Quest.
Merry Christmas 🎄, Guy's & Great Reaction To One Of My All Time Favorite Movie's
Great reaction again!
Please continue this series theyre so good lol
Perfect reaction to one of the best action films. The comment that this was like an adult version of Home Alone was brilliant. Thank you.
I've recommended it before and I'll do it again. Spawn from 1997. You two would really enjoy it.
MERRY YIPEEKI-A! Thank you for reacting to this Christmas Classic!
I love the gas prices when Al is looking at the building. 74 cents a gallon
I do believe that this movie is a Christmas movie 🎉
2 things...Home Alone was AFTER Die Hard. Also, the criminals in HA were idiots. The criminals in DH were brilliant and competent. John McClane was just more motivated and had the advantage of surprise.
Seeing that you guys really liked this one, definitely continue the series. Die Hard 2 and 3 are definitely worth watching. Not as good as the first, the first one will always be the best, but the first 2 of the sequels are absolutely worth a watch.
Thanks for the advice!!!
Favorite Christmas movie, Gremlins is second 😂
If you guys haven't seen it already, Predator is another fantastic action movie, and so is Lethal Weapon!
Mery christmas guys, your channel it's awesome, Best wishes
hope you two are having a merry Christmas!!💚💚❤❤
Great choice for a Christmas review! Thank you for sharing your entertainment. I can’t stress this enough though. No you gotta see Die Hard 2.
😁😉😎
Die Hard is the greatest Christmas movie of all time.
The sleek , dazzling veneer of the 80s.
Chandra reminds me of Julia Stiles
The Building in this movie was owned by 20TH Century Fox it’s based in Century City California I’ve been there a few times. Such an Amazing way to save money and get a Huge reaction from your own Company 😂 This was Alan Rickman’s Debut role as the Villain and man did it pay off. The chemistry between the two was just Awesome even down to Reginald VelJohnson and McClaine. Greatest Christmas movie ever! Oh and the end scene they ended up dropping Alan early it was supposed to be 3 but they let him go on 2 for the Best reaction I mean that Face said it all! 😂😂😂
There is a count down to new years clock that has Hans falling to bring in the new year.
(Goooo Rock Band, btw.
Hope you two are having an merry Christmas 🎅 ❤
The Long Kiss Goodnight is another Christmas movie in the same vein as this one....an unconventional Christmas movie
Agreed. Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson killed it in that movie. And Jackson has said that was his favorite movie that he acted in.
Hart Bochner (Ellis) doesn’t get enough credit for his performance. He is brilliantly completely unlikable!
Like "La Cucaracha," which can't travel without Marijuana, this "Cokerachero" can't do anything without Coke. No, not the soft drink!;)
Perfection!
✌❤🎥
A stuntman did do that fall into an airbag.
And the reason why Alan Rickman looked terrified is because he was! For the close-up falling shot, he was hanging on a wire above a Blue Screen. And they filmed two limited falls with a quick break on the wire. They weren't getting what they wanted so, on the third fall, the director actually let him fall 30 feet before hitting the break. So that look of absolute terror on his face is real. He thought that he was actually falling.
Wrong. Go read about the scene on Google then please come back and correct this to the truth. Thank you.
I absolutely appreciate the note from jump it being a Christmas film! Also if not the best top 5 best villains of all time
Edmund Gwen was in many films. Watch Edmund Gwen in Hitchcock’s “The Trouble With Harry”. A black comedy about an inconvenient corpse named Harry.
Best Action Movie Ever. Action is the genre of this movie btw 😂
the building i believe dont exist anymore i think.8:16 willis lost part of his hearing in his left ear which affected him for the rest of his life
The trivia behind this movie is amazing .
You must check out the 1994 action/thriller 'Speed' starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Absolute classic! 🧡
Top action movies ;
- The Raid 1 & 2 - Indonesian but directed by a Welshman Gareth Evans (watch Gangs of London TV !)
- Commando & Predator - Schwarzenegger's infinitely quotable, cheesy but fun 80s action romps
- Dredd - Alex Garland (The Beach) gritty sci-fi cult classic
- Sicario - Denis Vilnueve (Dune) with Emily Blunt getting sucked into CIA black ops against Mexican drug cartels with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro
- Elite Squad 1 & 2 - this is not for reviewers as nobody is ever going to do this. This is for the fans of these channels. These are the story of the police enforcers that work in the Favela in Rio de Janeiro, a story of abuse of power and police corruption. ES 2 is a top five film of mine.
Long Kiss Goodnight. Is great.
Merry Christmas to you 2,Great Reaction! Lol😂
Merry Christmas 🌲 you two.
Did you notice when his vest turned from white to Army Green?
39:00: Well, and he's not invulnerable. A lot of action heroes previously would just either miraculously not get hit no matter how much the bad guys fired at them, or walk it off like it was a mosquito bite. John gets really roughed up through the film, to the point audiences seeing it when it came out wondered if he was going to survive. It adds to the tension and drama, the he accumulates wounds and damage, that his effectiveness steadily drops through the movie, so the final showdown, where he's barely hanging on physically and has only two bullets left, the tension is unbearable.
fun fact guy that steal chocolat do that off script but Director like it so much he Decide to keep him longer
This is such a Christmas movie, i have a "John Mclane crawling through an air duct" tree ornament
How about that John Melain 🤣
Barefoot, or sock-feet will quickly be put to end by any air steward; as it should.
if anyone think this is a Christmas movie, will think a porn that is set around Christmas is a Christmas movie also.
Oh heaven forbid someone takes a teddy bear on a plane, never know what might be stuffed in there. lol
This was filmed long before 9/11. It was a time when people could walk into an airport and go to a gate to meet their loved ones as they exited the planes. Good luck trying to do that now a days. Also, did you notice Bruce smoking in the airport? That doesn't happen anymore either.
Regular gas for 75 cents a gallon in Cali. That dates this movie a bit.
I know I am 3 months too late, but True Lies when :) ? Same type of feeling action/comedy Big time action movie btw
C4 is pretty powerful but here's the funny thing, it's inert. Without an explosive charge to set it off, it's just a type of clay. You can make a flowerpot out of it.
No wires on the detonators
Great reaction! You guys are fun...just subbed!
The building in die hard is the same one in the opening of lethal weapon
R.i.P. Alan Rickman ... what a Legend, what a Lost 😢
Die Hard 2 is great also.

@Nomad ••dickless EPA inspector
If you haven't, "Tombstone" is an all time great action movie/western with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer. Kilmer gives perhaps the greatest performance in a western in movie history. Try that next.
It's not a Christmas movie. It's set in Christmas but it came out in July. It's not a Christmas movie. Ask the director.
Die Hard 2 is sillier but still fun. DH3 is good too. Also recommend Terminator and Terminator 2; T2 is considered even better than the first one by many.
Great reactions guys please watch
