Hi. Awesome team at RME and awesome products! :) Can I use the MADIface USB to link USB sound devices (e.g. a Line6 Helix or a hardware synth) to my Fireface UFX III which is in turn connected to my DAW? I saw in the manual that it can work in standalone mode but it is still a bit unclear to me what you can do in standalone mode. It would be great if the few USB pieces of gear I have in my studio could all end up as MADI inputs instead of having to use aggregate devices. Thanks!
It’s not very clear an example setup with a diagram would have been more helpful, I am assuming that the madiface would have an input from a RME 12 mic pre via coax over say 100 meters into the madiface then usb 2 into a Mac laptop or desk top ? A madiface AVB Would be better directly into a Mac surly ?
To connect an AVB device to a Mac we recommend an interface and not the direct connection to the Mac´s network port, because this does not run stable, has a higher latency and does not have the functions of the interface. Therefore we recommend a Digiface AVB to benefit from the stable RME drivers, low latency and TotalMix FX.
Hello. You can use the ADI-8 QSM, a 8 channel AD/DA converter plus MADI card or the brand new M-32 Pro AD and a M-32 Pro DA converters. Also the "old" M-32 or M-16 are still available. Please check our website for more information.
Hi RME, Hi Adrian, I looking to buy 2 MADIface unit. Each unit will be connected to 2 (two) Ferrofish A32. To goal is to manage 128 input and 128 output (256). In Mac OS, in the audio preferences, can I aggregate the 2 MADIface units into 1 unit. I also have an ADI2PRO FS R which needs to be aggregated for monitoring use. Thanks for your reply.
How can i plug an old madiface (with expresscard) into a usb? And if my laptop do have an express card input, where can i get an madi expresscard? I alredy have the device itself i just need the card.
If I want to direct record (monitor both in and outs) through this, can I get the 2 ms latency RME is known for? Also, I notice this unit doesn’t have the FS clocking. Is that because it isn’t necessary?
Set up live during a TV show. Situation: I have to play live samples, jingles, SFX etc. with a master keyboard. I was advised to use 2 RME MADI Usb (MADI because sometimes having to record the whole band in the studio I might need a lot of INs). Why 2? Because being a live show and working with 2 identical machines (1 back up the other) I would have the option to switch on the other machine if the main one should fail. Question 1: how can I connect the master keyboard to play if the Midi inputs are virtual embedded in the MADI cable? How can I connect the master keyboard to both the main RME MADI Usb and the back up one? Ultimately I have: 2 macbook pro -> 2 RME MADI usb -> 1 master keyboard with a Midi OUT and a usb connection. Suggestions? Thank you
@@RMEAudio minimum 16 but only if I have to record the band and postpone the recording with separate tracks. Instead, if I have to play jingles, SFX or songs, it depends on the amount of material I have in a specific episode. Usually no more than 4-5 software tracks coming out of the main OUT (not in separate channels). I wondered, in retrospect, if it would not be appropriate to take a digital mixer (to record and playback the band) and manage the live with 2 small sound cards per machine. In this way I would certainly have more cables to connect but it seems to me a situation more congenial for the type of show. If I take 2 MADI Usb I also have to take an external controller for the faders and it still remains the problem of how to connect the 2 MADIs to the master keyboard because I would not have physical MIDI inputs or USB inputs. I need to use a single master keyboard and send the same material to both machines in real time. This last thing I can't understand. MADI Usb has no physical inputs for a master keyboard, a Push or any other external controller ... thanks for your time. I know this is a fairly specific question so I really appreciate your advice. I'm afraid the 2 MADI Usb solution is oversized. Thanks again.
You can choose several options for the connection. Either optical or coaxial. You can send the signals to both outputs in parallel, or use 2* 64 I/O channels in combination with a small limitation, since you still only have 64 playback channels. You can also use it in stand-alone mode as an optical/coaxial or coaxial/optical format converter.
TotalMix FX can be controlled with a Midi controller th-cam.com/video/9QdG36QxZP0/w-d-xo.html. You can find a description in the manual of the RME interface. You can also use the ARC USB for some functions in TotalMix FX th-cam.com/video/L7RfBj2ReF4/w-d-xo.html. You can also use TotalMix Remote to control TotalMix FX on your main computer via network connection and an iPad th-cam.com/video/5heKLSTTYsg/w-d-xo.html.
@@RMEAudio Fully understand that it can - was just interested to see if RME had put any thought into making a desk-like control surface for us studio users. The quality that's gone into the rest of your product line would be a welcome addition to the control surface world.
Oh one more thing.. I have the MADIface XT. The DMX R100 does NOT receive the word clock through MADI. You need to send the word clock separately through a BNC cable (or whatever that cable is called).
It depends what you want to achieve. The Fireface 800 has no MADI I/O, so you can't transport audio between the devices. But you can synchronize them via Wordclock to use them both on a Mac as an aggregate device for your DAW. On a WIndows PC this is not possible, because they have different drivers.
how many audio inputs can we achieve when in 192k sampling rate mode? when using both the optical and coaxical bnc, and disable Totalmix? of course when our adc supports?
WIth 192kHz on MADI you have 16 channels per MADI stream. You can mix then max 32 channels from the input direct to the output with Totalmix enabled. But over the USB connection, for record and playback only 16 are available. Then only 1 MADI connection can be used.
hello, is the MADIface USB compatible with USB 3 Ports? This means, can i connect the MADIface USB to a PC with only USB 3 Ports ?. Since USB 3 Ports should be downward compatible with USB 2 devices, this should be possible, or not? I didn't have any issues with other USB 2 Audio interfaces and the USB controller is an Intel Z170 chipset.
Where would the Analog connections be connected to?
Thats my question
Does the madiface work with the Ferrowfish a32 pro?

can madiface usb with ferrofish pulse 16 used to monitor dolby atmos say 11 channels? will this setup work with another ucx 2 simultaneously?
I have the RME UCX II and was thinking about the madiface usb along with the 12mic or similar madi preamp. Would this setup work?

I wish someone would create a small, affordable TDIF to USB converter/interface box! (hint)
TDIF is discontinued, so I expect it will not be created any more. You could try to find a second hand ADI-8 DS and use the Digiface USB via ADAT.

Yes, the MADIface USB is compatible with USB 3 inputs.
How do I plug my instruments into it
You need a converter or an interface that converts your analog instrument signal to MADI.
