I'm so happy to see my This or That on the show! I didn't expect it to be the longest segment, but Graham "Graphic Design is my Passion" Stark gave me the exact experience I was hoping for.
It wasn’t just yours! I remember us spending several days working on this! (Hi. Procedurally Generated Name here!) I kid. Thank you for everything you did, Nate!
"You pour six jiggers of gin into a glass and then you drink it while staring at a picture of Lorenzo Schwartz, the inventor of vermouth.” -Hawkeye on the driest Martini
Cameron's news for cats was so accurate both my cats looked up from their naps to watch. Either that or they were trying to determine where the sick crazy cat was.
As someone who frequently reads governmental codes and standards as part of my job, this sounded perfectly normal until I realized it was supposed to be funny via absurdity.
I know this is 4 months old but I am extremely appreciative of Cameron delivering a paragraph thrashing the Roman Empire by using language most people use regarding almost any other ancient culture and it is REFRESHING and I loved the whole thing.
Always love to see Gibb getting video time :P. The "I don't read the lore" part absolutely broke me and I laughed through the whole next toot, so thanks for that :).
I live in Virginia, 200 people have to have ordered these plates for them to have been approved. I'm sorry that there were even 2 people to order them.
Bounty comes in two pieces because then they can say that it contains "2 serves" and the nutrient information can then be for just one of the pieces. At a glance it makes it look like it has comparable energy to other bars. As if anyone ever eats only one of the pieces.
As a life long Rhode Islander, I am happy that y'all got a kick out of our dumb license plate controversy. As a tiny state we have to find real dumb things to get made about, but also that design did suck.
Funny thing about Ohio's aviation themed license plates The Wright Brothers were from Ohio, but the first flight took place in North Carolina. Both of these states really want to claim that they were responsible for the first flight though, so Ohio's motto is "Birthplace of Aviation" and North Carolina's is "First in Flight". These mottos appear on basically all of their license plates, and I've heard there was some weird political rivalry they had going on over who got to use which motto and if they could both claim the Wright Brothers as their own.
My favorite Ohio aviation trivia tidbit is that there are more astronauts from Ohio than anywhere else in the country. So what is it about Ohio that leads to it's people wanting to get as far away as humanly possible
@@pBlackcoat If nothing else, their neighbors are apparently petty enough to argue over which map-shape gets to claim ownership of the Wright Brothers.
I'm a Utahn and I almost said real on that night sky plate! I remember hearing about it, but upon a second thought I feel strongly enough about astronomy and Utah's Dark Sky program that I would have replaced my plate with that in a heartbeat.
As a person that enjoys comedy, I was in stitches. As a person who actively enjoys martinis I was climbing the walls… he didn’t even chill it… it was in the standard 😂
Not only is the DC license plate real, but the current version “End Taxation Without Representation” is the DEFAULT plate issued to drivers. You have to opt OUT of it. The District has 100% given up on subtlety.
Going into the round 4 of the knockoff game, I immediately noticed Serge picked up the bars with the opposite hands he usually does and assumed he'd get his hands mixed up because of it. Especially considering he had commented on keeping the plates in the same orientation in round 3. He usually grabs #1 with his left hand first so they're aligned with the plates (1 on his left, 2 on his right), but because the #2 plate was being presented to him first he grabbed that one with his left.
For the Ontario Star Trek plate, ST Discovery was filmed primarily in Ontario. But the timelines don't match up there... Shatner does at least have a cottage in Ontario, no idea where he lives the rest of the year and I'm too tired to google it atm 😂
So, not only did DC have the "Taxation Without Representation" plates, but both Presidents Clinton and Obama had them on the presidential limo (Bush had them removed, and I haven't found any info on this super vital detail of presidential transportation for the 2 presidents since Obama).
As an Ohioian, almost all our non-basic license plates are basically that same style and I never really thought about how strange they are compared to other states' plates.
As a european, I find it baffling how there is no standardisation for the license plates.... let alone readability. Over here most states even tell you where a car is from (very local area) through the plate....
Not a fan of KitKat Chunky. It already had the perfect ratio of chocolate to wafer, then Chunky comes along and throws that balance out the window. It's just a chocolate wafer like you get in the cookie section of the grocery store.
Graham, the US would like Puerto Rico to join the Union, but they have to pass a majority vote through their legal system first, and that's not gonna happen until either their taxes get worse or ours gets better.
"At least it ain't Bluesky" THANK YOU, Gibb. The number of people I see talking about going to Jack Twitter's new, also bad version of Twitter is infuriating and disheartening. And "Twitter got bad so we're moving to Facebook's Threads?" Yikes. We don't need to choose which of the evil tech bros we follow, we can just...not. And yes, apparently Jack is known to be a maybe-not-great guy, he just looks decent compared to Long Muskrat because he's stable enough to act like a *normal* evil billionaire. As an aside, I heard the "main" Fedi-Reddit "Lemmy" is run by some iffy people, so watch out for that? There is more than one "Not-Reddit," but that's the one with name-recognition AFAIK.
NC is where the first flight of the Wright flyer happened, but the Wrights were from Ohio, and built the airplane in Dayton. After successful flights at KittyHawk they returned to Dayton to perfect their airplane. Many aviation firms are Dayton based for this reason and the National Air force Museum is there for similar reasons. (Aviation nerd, please excuse the info-dump.)
47:47 Olive phrenology! A 16:1 to 20:1 gin:vermouth ratio? The cult of the "dry martini" needs to be put down. Either have a glass of gin or have a cocktail, and stop romanticizing how little vermouth you put in it. 3:1. I'm putting my foot down. It was good enough for your grandmother.
That original colourful oregon liscence plate is actually really interesting from a colour theory perspective and i cant understand why they changed it

Beej and Ian's martinis were both insulting but in diametrically opposed senses
“And now by way of rebuttal, Beej” has to find it’s way into more common usage
Imma start using it
I feel like it's less effective when you don't have a Beej on hand. Though I guess that's a problem that's solving itself over time.
News for cats is now my favorite news show
The radiative method of martini mixing was an underappreciated joke, that was *very* clever.
"You pour six jiggers of gin into a glass and then you drink it while staring at a picture of Lorenzo Schwartz, the inventor of vermouth.”
-Hawkeye on the driest Martini
The Final Martini was an excellent encapsulation of the friendship and comic strengths of Beej and Ian.
Cameron's news for cats was so accurate both my cats looked up from their naps to watch. Either that or they were trying to determine where the sick crazy cat was.
The final martini segment actually killed me. I had to look up the standard... and it's accurate.
Legitimately might be the closest i have ever been to an aneurysm.
As someone who frequently reads governmental codes and standards as part of my job, this sounded perfectly normal until I realized it was supposed to be funny via absurdity.
Even the magic lightbulb?
1:33:12 Finally! some real high quality journalism addressing the issues

Jesus Christ, Cam's opens are a trip
The martini segment is such a beautiful exercise in overly scientific stupidity, and I LOVE IT! I hope to see similar segments to it in the future!

I hate and love that I knew exactly what Beej would bring the moment he walked off screen

There were two Wrights, surely they could each just have one?

I loved Beej's rebuttal. The Soulpatch Bossa Nova just made it.
Was the the Vita-Mix 3600+ Plus that was used in Iron Stomach Kickstarter video years ago? Glad to see it’s return if so!
I'm a Utahn and I almost said real on that night sky plate! I remember hearing about it, but upon a second thought I feel strongly enough about astronomy and Utah's Dark Sky program that I would have replaced my plate with that in a heartbeat.
The CU is the plate type for Oregon. Oregon adds two letters to the special plates.
"Unlike Cheems--" HOW DARE YOU CAM 😭😭

Dark Chocolate Bounty has been in the UK for years. We even had a Cherry version in the mid 2000's, along with Pineapple and Mango
Hello from your fans in the Kingdom of Calontir!
12:23 Good night, Night Vale 🌃👁️🌃
I'm always so glad when someone else has heard of this show.
Not only is the DC license plate real, but the current version “End Taxation Without Representation” is the DEFAULT plate issued to drivers. You have to opt OUT of it. The District has 100% given up on subtlety.
Or to go with that classic jingle:
"Sometimes you feel like a nut
sometimes you don't
Almond Joy's got nuuutss
Mound's don't"
Seriously, Virginia has so many custom plates you could play an entire round of This or That with VA plates.
And Texas has at least twice as many as Virginia!
Going into the round 4 of the knockoff game, I immediately noticed Serge picked up the bars with the opposite hands he usually does and assumed he'd get his hands mixed up because of it. Was the candy in the knock-off contest also cut into pieces with the guillotine?
Cam's cold open was super good
Cameron's cat at the end - very accurate
It's a real DC plate, I love it
F in the chat for Cheems :(
F :( o7
The Vita-Mix returns!
As soon as I saw the Ohio plate I remembered the story behind it. On another note im so glad I have one of our older plate designs
For the Ontario Star Trek plate, ST Discovery was filmed primarily in Ontario. But the timelines don't match up there... Shatner does at least have a cottage in Ontario, no idea where he lives the rest of the year and I'm too tired to google it atm 😂
Martini was a fantastic idea, hope to see it again
I'm glad I stuck around for the cat news :D
Im dying laughing at the light bulb method
So, not only did DC have the "Taxation Without Representation" plates, but both Presidents Clinton and Obama had them on the presidential limo (Bush had them removed, and I haven't found any info on this super vital detail of presidential transportation for the 2 presidents since Obama).
Of course James asks a question in the form of song lyrics lol
Sings: "Almond joy's got nuuuts... Mounds don't! Becaaaauuuuse Sometimes your Feel Like a Nut, Sometimes You Don't!"
Gibb managed to convince me to finally make a Mastodon XD.
I currently live in NE and that license plate hurts me.
As an Ohioian, almost all our non-basic license plates are basically that same style and I never really thought about how strange they are compared to other states' plates.

once again an amazing cold open
Ah Aldi has the same thing down here in Australia as the Knock off Nom Nom - now im going to have run this experiment myself
I don’t know enough about cocktails to really understand the Martini segment, but it was hilarious nonetheless.
I've caught up on my N100 lore, i quite like this Serge design for the new season (office)
Okay the news for cats at the end just killed me. xD
11:33 *magnus archives theme plays*
I really like the the the last Martini segment and this or that
someone needs to mix the clip of beej running in and taking the 5th piece of candy with the weird adult in monster house that eats a dude's cookies
I always go by the enchanted forest and wondered what it was about and if it was any good.
6:00 Missouri mention 🎉🎉🎉
Beej near edible things, no lessons have been learnt.
"MUSIC!!"
(several minutes of performance art)
"MARTINI!!!"
Is it just me, or did Gibb’s advice this week had a strong Ron Swanson vibe.
Oh holy shit... the Kingdom of Calontir is one of the Kingdoms of the SCA!!
It was seeing that plate at Pennsic a couple of years ago that inspired me to create this This or That, as it happens.
Engagement for the engagement god!
That was my jackbox prompt!
Not a fan of KitKat Chunky. It already had the perfect ratio of chocolate to wafer, then Chunky comes along and throws that balance out the window. It's just a chocolate wafer like you get in the cookie section of the grocery store.
this whole thing was great, but News for Cats demolished me.
Beej is clearly having more fun.
I live in nebraska and have never seen that plate.
I hate that Beej's abomination is still closer to an actual cocktail than Ian (who seemingly ignored all regulations regarding chilling).
Graham, the US would like Puerto Rico to join the Union, but they have to pass a majority vote through their legal system first, and that's not gonna happen until either their taxes get worse or ours gets better.
Wait, whose legal system is holding it up? PR or the Union? And by worse/better taxes, in what way?
Why use two green dice to tell the difference in the plates?
love to you all
1:02:16 Gibbs got a bit of Teen Girl Squad Twang there
Did I miss something or did Ian forget to add the vermouth?
Is Dollarama owned by Aldi? I recognise some of the brand names they use.
Not from the looks of it. Might be that the company that makes the chocolate exports to multiple chains as a house brand item.
I want a Cam Cat now.
Ice cream so good gang gang

Both should have been worth twice the points. Even more perhaps. Matt was robbed!
Ian's joke about infusing the gin was great, but the delivery was far too dry.

That is all

this guy gets it
You may be pretentious, but are you "trying to apply sommelier-style deductions to a chocolate bar"-level pretentious?
My guy, this was a party game. Let people have fun.
