    Harrison says that he used to have a drug problem but he’s been clean for a couple of years, that sounds like something Dexter would say and I believe he is referring to Hannah drugging people and that he killed her

    • @eddie9559
      @eddie9559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why would Hannah be drugging people? She's not that kind of serial killer, she only kills people who threaten her life. Even if she had to do that in Argentina it's hard to imagine that Harrison would kill her for basically protecting herself, maybe some angry words and running away then sure.
      I'm willing to get behind Harrison killing Hannah because she's suffering from cancer but anything more than that and they would have ruined the character for me.

      @@eddie9559 That’s fair, just sounded like some word play Dexter would use if he was referring to a kill. Remember, this season is created by the people behind the first four and a lot of fans didn’t like Hannah so it’s totally plausible that they would be willing to vilify her character to help Harrison’s arc. I guess we will see

    No lie when Harrison said he found the note Dexter left him and he got so angry I thought the twist was gonna be is that he was gonna tell Dexter he actually killed Hannah out of anger and in my opinion I still think that this twist can still happen because I don't know Harrison just feels kinda suspicious to me and he also said he didn't want Chief Angela in his business, I think Harrison is hiding something more than he is letting on plus he said he's good people and animals so maybe Harrison knows how to hide his Dark Passenger better than Dexter I don't know just kept thinking I don't believe you( Ron Burgundy voice Lol)

    2:26 If he did then good on Harrison because Hannah was the worst character of the show's original run. A poisoner of innocent people yet she was a Mary Sue who was portrayed as this perfectly good person who supposedly killed to survive when really she just liked it, I got sick of her going on about Argentina, her and Dexter's relationship was out of nowhere and only done because Scott Buck the producer fancied Hannah's actress and that kill table sex scene was for sure out of his fantasies, Dexter's obsession with Hannah was Buck projecting, she deserved none of the sympathy the show tried to give her with the abusive dad stuff, she nearly killed Deb, used Dexter to get rid of the evidence that reporter had of her killing with Wayne Randall and selfishly expected Dexter to choose her over Deb.

    The enigma that is Harrison. The letter is the open wound that led to Dexter being found. I would not think Dexter would have used the name Jim Lindsay in Oregon, then, travel across country to plant himself with the same name at Iron Lake. There were multiple passports in his Miami getaway bag. Harrison said he named his goat Vincent. Was that a clue that Harrison talked with Vincent Masuka about Dexter? I am sure Harrison saw the blood in the snow and kept it to himself. At the cabin the ease with which Harrison broke in showed he knew what he was doing. Was this part of Hannah's training? Harrison is knowledgable about the drone... smart boy! Again at the cabin Harrison intentionally bumps to make noise so that he would not catch them rifling through his backpack. When asked about his mother they now know his stepmom died of cancer and his real mother was in Miami. The drawings in his book didn't look like anyone we've encountered so far... some serious bald guy and the man and woman. She had no resemblance to Hannah for me. I think Harrison has tricks up his sleeves!

    Dexter whacked Clancy Brown's son. So, it seems kind of like a no-brainer (A) that Brown will eventually find out about that and (B) Brown will take a shot at Harrison in retaliation. Dexter doesn't seem to be in a mood this season to let bygones be bygones if someone takes a shot at Harrison. To tie in with Dark Deb Passenger's warnings, it's safe to assume that Brown's shot at Harrison will probably work (eventually). Those are my guesses for now.

    Nice review! Few things I'll mention :
    1- Personally I don't think it's slow. I ate episode 2 up. It went too fast for me haha I wanted more! I'm guessing that by episode 3 or 4, things will move more quickly. The difference also is that the other seasons always had plots with secondary characters, but in itself, Dexter has always been a ''slow'' show.
    2- I'm not sure if it's Clancy Brown who watching the girl. The hand that we see seems to be a younger one. I could be wrong too. I still think he will be the (or one of) bad guy, but that could be cool actually if he wasn't and all this is just a misdirection! The oil's billionaire seems like a bad guy too of course (not subtle haha) but even him could just that...an oil's billionaire.
    3- I don't trust Harrison at all for now. Not sure if I believe him that Hannah's dead OR that she really died of cancer. What I really like with this is that I don't know where this is going. He could be truthful and good kid, he could be a killer like his father, he could even be the guy who traps the girls(more unlikely), etc
    4- As much as Angel's seems cool with Dexter's secret and all (because she has some too), I'm not sure if we should trust her. I have nothing to back that up, it's just a hunch.
    5- What I'll critique big time though is since the deer was killed on forbidden land, why then Dexter was chasing it as a routine? I'm not talking about the metaphors and stuff (I get that) , but he could've at some point killed the deer and get caught. That would've made a stupid Dexter if he didn't want to do any waves. I thought it was weird.

    • @latitude990
      @latitude990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To your last point about the deer: I assumed it was their way of showing some of his normal human emotions (kind of set a base line for his personality in the new season). He probably got bored one day, walked into the woods with his gun, aimed at it while knowing full well he wasn't going to kill it (or possibly changing his mind). Then it turned into a routine (something he loves) and he now has a growing respect for the deer (life being sacred or w/e). Then it conveniently turns into his breaking point when he sees it get shot by a guy that fits his code. Once they brought up the fact that he hasn't killed in 10 years, I figured he never had an intention to kill the deer

    • @bengirard1984
      @bengirard1984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@latitude990 Hey :) It's 100% what you wrote for sure. That's what I meant by that I got the metaphors and all that. I was just thinking that maybe if it was just a routine and that he wouldn't shoot, a native could've spot him just aiming at it. And if he would've shot it for whatever reason and got caught, that wouldn't have been good for Dexter haha I like the season so far, but even in episode 3 there's some stuff that I'm starting to think that it's lazy writing too, as much as I love Dexter in general.

    The blood was from the rock the guy smashed his head on, Dexter didn't realise until he had discovered the blood at his shack that the guy had bled out a bit.

    I found it plausible.

    You made me realize that you are right about this season being slow so far (...and the blood stuff). I was thinking that maybe previous seasons started off slow (...I binged them all), but you just watched them, so you're probably right. I'm a little worried because the whole idea for the season came from Clyde Phillips. The first season of Dexter came straight from the book, and the other 3 seasons he was showrunner were good, but the writing staff as a whole put the stories together. He's written some bad stuff on other shows, so I hope there wasn't too much hype about him because of the success of the first 4 seasons of Dexter. Michael C Hall signed off on the story, but he also signed off on season 8, so he's not infallible either. Thanks!

    I have a theory that the rich people come into town and kill the people who have been going missing. My first idea was from how the eye that was spying on the trapped girl looked like Kurt. I feel like he pays his son and his friends to help him lure people in, because the guy doing coke in the bathroom seemed to be relatively fine covering up for murder as long as he got his paycheck. I’m sure there’s a deeper meaning as to why they’d be doing it but that’s just my speculation from these episodes.

    Something that’s crossed my mind a bit. Kurt Caldwell is known in town, and Dexter seems to know who he is. Isn’t it a little odd that Dexter had never come across his son or knew of him at least?
    Going by this episode it seems kind of obvious where part of the storyline could go. My guess is that Audrey will find something in Harrison’s backpack eventually with Dexter’s name on it. She’ll either piece together or question who “Jim” really is, and will tell her mom about it. Angela will look into him and figure out that Dexter is Jim, and that Dexter faked his death.
    Also, while nothing is confirmed I wonder if this will truly be a one off season or if it will go for further seasons.

    Excellent review! And I completely agree on Dexter's blood trail. It didn't offset everything that I've enjoyed about the show thus far, but it was a bit of a goofy write in the story, particularly the whole driving over the blood to get rid of it part, but I digress.
    I'm curious what route they're going to take with Harrison. They're definitely planting the seeds that Harrison has the same "dark tendencies" as Dexter, while molding a sympathetic character for us, so they want us to like him, but the show could be setting us up to think that only to do the opposite, however shows almost always go in the obvious direction. The coin flip for me is, which of these two will ultimately survive, which includes the Dexter prison/death penalty ending which we already know that Clyde Phillips is jonesing for. To me that's the worst and most cliche' possible ending to the Dexter story and it derives from an almost Stockholm syndrome embedded into people/writers, who can't handle the notion of someone breaking the law and ultimately getting away with it, which is the very reason we got the Dexter living in his own prison Lumberjack ending the first time (huge debate among the writers) but to me me this compromises our entire journey with Dexter... it may as well end with a public service announcement that says, remember boys and girls if you break the law you will ultimately not get away with it, there has to be consequences. At this point Clyde Phillips could do no wrong, because the Lumberjack ending was rock bottom, so he'll be the hero of the day with his cliche Dexter execution ending, which is almost certainly going to be the ending. But I'm not sure how long they'll carry on the show before they get to that point... there's a chance it could be at the end of this season.
    I'm not sure if we should take Hannah's cancer death as being definitive or not. Maybe she had to go on the run, in which case it makes sense for Harrison to assist her with the cancer death scenario... maybe she was murdered and perhaps Harrison avenged her murder or intends too... I'm curious if Harrison has murdered anyone at this point? I find it interesting that Harrison was sent from Argentina to Miami by social workers for the 3 years proceeding this... why would Harrison be sent to Miami? I could see a scenario where Harrison would be sent to live with Aster and Cody's Grandparents, but they didn't live in Miami. He was born in Miami, so perhaps there's nothing suspicious other than that. There is of course the chance that Harrison ends up having no dark tendencies and if that's the case, he's almost certainly going to get killed, just like everyone else who's ever been close to Dexter. There is a moment when Harrison says, he was so mad when he found Dexter's letter (I wonder what he means exactly by mad).
    I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but typically it's the most obvious path and anything else is just me over analyzing the possibilities. Is it going to be the obvious route of Harrison sharing Dexters darkness or is the show setting us up, only to throw us a curve ball? One things almost for certain... If he has the darkness, he will live, if he doesn't he will die.

    I have a strange feeling he isn't going to kill many people in this season. It just seems like too secluded of a location for him to just go bananas. My guess is that Harrison is a drifter serial killer. Either way, I don't care. It's great so far. Better than Chunky (Chucky).

    I agree with you on this one Cody. I like Deb in this role. Sort of like Dexter's guilt, where Harry was his conscience. I also think there's going to be more to Hannah's death coming out. I had the same reaction to the pacing. It felt like parts of it were filler. I'm sure it's all going to tie together, but I'd like them to pick it up as well. Really good episode though.

    I watched this episode not long after the first one so they're kind of a blur to me but yeah that's basically what I was saying in my comments on ep 1, that I felt the first 2 or 3 episodes (again I'm having trouble differentiating btwn the episodes since I watched them all close together) were very slow and I actually had the same exact thought as you did, they only have 10 episodes, when are they going to really get into it?! But I know it picked up soon after. Also what you were thinking about Dex being too smart to leave blood all over the snow, I was thinking something similar about his instincts about ppl & being able to sniff out other serial killers more specifically. I mean he knew Colin Hanks's character Travis was involved in the Doomsday killings just by seeing an expression on his face so how could he be around this Caldwell guy (the father I mean) & not suspect anything at first, esp since he was onto Matt right away? I mean like you said he's too good when it comes to these things even if he's a little rusty and out of practice. I just don't buy that he wouldn't have suspected something was up sooner 🤨 also unlike you I had no idea Clancy Brown would be the Big Bad (to be totally honest I didn't even know who he was and I went out of my way not to find out any spoilers either beforehand so I went in not having a clue who it would be). I had my money on either him or the billionaire oil guy who I still don't trust either btw...think he's up to no good too but we'll see. And Deb is continuing to freak me out a little bit w/ all the shrieking lol...I really hope she was directed to act over the top like that cause otherwise 😬 & as I said in my last comment on ep 1, I'm honestly concerned for Jennifer Carpenter, I really think she is suffering from an ED. I struggled with one on/off for most of my life so am pretty aware of the signs. Well I made the mistake of googling it to see if it was confirmed &/or if she had ever spoken about it & ended up finding all these "pro anna" sites that had all these ppl posting about using her for "thinspiration"...hopefully I don't need to explain all this but it's not good. And I don't think she's ever spoken about it but from what I can tell it's pretty much known or at least heavily speculated that she does suffer from an ED. I don't say all this to gossip just genuinely concerned for her health and well being. I really like her a lot and think she's a great actress overall & just pray she's taking care of herself and will leave it at that ✌

    The one thing that confused me was what Dexter did w Matt’s body. In ep 1, After saying what am I going to do w u, he looks at the ice fishing poster & says not exactly Miami bay, but it does have a hole in it, hinting he put him in the hole. Then in episode 2 the camera pans below the fire pit & there’s the bag’s w Matt in them & his gun. Just a little confused w that misdirection. What am I missing?

    At the virtual comic con they had this past year Michael C Hall said the way things end off with this season Clyde Phillips could do another season. Clyde said let’s see how things go with this season. The way they spoke about it though sounded like Michael wouldn’t be apart of it. I really hope they don’t try to continue the show without Dexter Morgan he’s the best character in the whole show. But yeah for this episode I’ll just say the way Debra kept taunting Dexter reminded me of season 3 when Harry as a hallucination first showed up and he would advise Dexter. He told Dexter not to trust Miguel, Dexter ignored him and ended up in a mess while Harry was there teasing him about it through multiple big moments.

  • @fantasiazplatkami

    My prediction. Helicopter guy kidnaps and has kidnapped girls for years. He will be Robert Hansen type of killer. He will target Angelas daughter ( he already has a grudge against her) . Dexter and son will team up and Harrison will make a kill.
    I also dont much care for teen romance and two friendzoned goofy guys. The less I see this subplot , the better.
    Dexter was used to suspected of being the Bay Killer so Harrison may already have come across some articles about it and keep an eye on Dexter , but i dont think he is already poisoning people for fun.
    Hannah indeed may have died more sudden death . She would have written to Dex knowing she was dying to take over Harrison. Did Harrison kill her when he found out she was a killer?

    Dexter trying to cover up the blood trail by just driving over them and Harrison not noticing anything was definitely the weakest moment of the season so far to me. They could've just written the script differently so that he didn't leave THAT much blood behind and then save themselves from having Dexter look stupid and then have that cartoonish solution. I just feel like previous seasons of Dexter have done the whole "I might have left something behind at the crime scene" scenario in way more clever and exciting ways and this one just felt like a throwaway. I'm loving the overall direction of the story though and hope things will really start cookin' in the next episode.
