Drive 30 kilometres outside Shimoga, past areca nut plantations, serene forest scapes, and the roar of the mighty Tunga river, to Mandagadde, a village known for its bird sanctuary and equally popular eateries that proffer a variety of freshwater fish delicacies. In this episode, I visit Bhavani Fish Hotel, a rustic dining spot set in a home that began the Mandagadde fish tradition 27 years ago. I met the owner, Ramesh Rao and his family to learn what makes the Mandagadde fish special, and also savour some of the delicacies on offer. When in Shimoga, definitely make the trek here; the fry and curries certainly are worth the effort.

Even though he is not welcomed how he expected, with that in mind he enjoyed the food means this is a real genuine review and food is good. This how reviews should be made.
I really liked the presentation, variety and ambiance of this eatery.
One suggestion,
Use a thick, large dimension Iron Tawa instead of small stuff shown in the video.
It will ease the preparation, improve taste and reduce oil spillage.
Wonderful place to eat, and quiet atmosphere, which I'll surely try someday.

Wish I had come across this video long back when I had visited Shimoga! Would have definitely gone the distance to feast on the Gujole, Owlu and Gowri fish fry!
Loved the video and definitely would visit the place. My mother is from Mandagadde and she used to work in her sister's fish hotel before marriage. I am 32 years old now so I don't think Bhavani is the first fish hotel in Mandagadde.
At 2:38 , owner clearly mentioned he started as road side fish eater, prior to starting Bhavani 27 years ago.
It's clear he was in fish business since total of 42 years.
What a great experience he brings into this fish restaurant 😊.
His son is also doing a great job with his parents, and will take the place to greater heights.

Very interesting, I thought only Hokkien Chinese and Han Chinese eat fish head , in Malaysia and Singapore you get fish head with an Indian curry gravy 😮😮..I didn’t expect to see this in Malenadu😂😂

Fish head is commonly eaten in Odisha and Bengal. In fact, both states have specialty dishes in which fish head is cooked with assorted vegetables
While in Middle East I have prepared Hamour (Grouper) fish head weighing upto 7 KGs with amazing taste.
I haven't tried river fishe head anywhere else, including here in Philippines.

Gowdri and catla looks similar but both different. Gowri is stomach is bigger, slightly reddish, fatty , less small bones taste better then catla

So was Mr. Kripal, with the fact that they didn’t recognise him and weren’t very welcoming (in his own words; something that he mentioned twice).
Mr. Kripal, if you really claim to “speak for the food” could you please stick to it? Not everyone goes into such small eateries with a camera and other equipment. As your viewer, I want to know how the food is, not how the owners of the eatery are towards food vloggers.

Hotel Owner Should Happy. But See your face Unhappy. Give Proper Respect. It's not our culture. Enjoy every second. He is world famous. Moreover he is Gentle Man. Am From Shivamogga District it's not our culture
Owner character is more like naive or he is not exicted to any people, his work says it all, and that is the respect on food people taste and eat
I don't think the owners were in any way unhappy here. They are probably not used to serving to food vloggers in their establishment that often. And more importantly their hard work and dedication to their restaurant and food matters here. And as kripal mentions in the video I'm pretty sure they were just taken aback by all the cameras and attention.
And honestly, if the owner reacts and knowingly acts indifferent to Kripal, then you know that the owner treats everyone the same, irrespective of who they are and what influence they can have. A genuine show of character and integrity at the very least. And you can bet that what you see here is what you get, no special treatment here.
