As a armed professional that carries both on the job and in my personal life. The Smith & Wesson Shield is the epitome of what others are trying to achieve. Thus far I think the Sig 365 is about as close as anyone has come to the shield. My agency has the shield on the approved list and that's what I carry. The Sig 365 has been tested by my agency and is not currently on the approved list. Not to be long-winded but I agree with your assessment of these two platforms. I to give the nod to the Smith & Wesson Shield because I trust my life with it and the life of my clients with it.

Sig hit it out of the park with the P365 features and design. Maximum capacity and minimal size. The trigger breaks at a nice point, not too far back like many other pistols. The only issue a lot of people seem to have is that it may be too small for a lot of people to hold comfortably, which is why those people usually go with the 12 round mag. My hand fits perfectly with the 10 round mag with the extended pinky grip so I'm in love with it. The $250 price tag on the 1.0 shield definitely has me interested in getting one as a backup/beater gun though. I'm sure you can't go wrong with the P365 or the Shield, just pick what fits best for you.

Thank for the review. I went to a gun show and held...The Sig 365, Glock 26, 43, PPQ and M&P Shield 2.0. I must say the shield felt extremely good in my hand. I ended up getting the Shield with the Red CTL built in and must say after some range time Im extremely happy with my choice. When I first saw this video I agreed wholeheartedly in my appreciation for the Shield. I've had a P365 for about a year. Gradually I've come to the realization that the 365 and my future XL will probably replace every other gun I own in 9mm. They are just that good. I sold a Shield 9 recently still have another one but maybe not forever. The 365 is very good and you can't deny the capacity advantage it has. Love you videos they make the viewer think about what was covered more than others.

They basically did come out with a double stack Shield. The M&P 2.0 Subcompact. It's thicker and slightly longer, but you get twelve rounds for carry and the 17 round full size mags will fit in it for the range. (Also comes with a slip on grip extender for the 15 and 17 round mags) I love mine. They can be hard to find right now, but worth every penny if you can.

Your choice is understandable from a training perspective. I've run 300 rounds through my P365 and I plan on taking a few classes with it to get used to the differences between it and the thicker double stack subcompacts that I am used to. It is fairly snappy but very accurate. After 1,000 plus rounds and a couple of classes, I should feel very confident with it. I hope so because I've already mentally committed.

Thanks for doing this comparison. I had winnowed it down to these two for my next purchase. Between you and the Honest Outlaw, I have decided: if I can run across a deal for the M&P Shield 2.0 around 350 or 400 I will choose it and just replace the sights and buy extra mags. But since I have never had a small carry gun, I will have to adjust to whatever I choose anyway. The size adjustment for the P365 will be the only knock against it, and I will have to get used to anything regardless. Therefore, the best choice for me out of the box is the Sig.
I have resisted the idea of buying the Sig, partly because I already have the P320 in 9mm and 5" barrel. I don't want to be a fan-boy of any name brand. I'm really just looking for the best within my price range. A CZ Shadow 2 is not in my range and it's too big. I have big, and I can't use them for concealed carry. I think even a 4" barrel will be uncomfortable. I haven't seen CZ competing on the sub compact field, and they would probably be too expensive again anyway.
Nope. The P365 has won me, short of a lucky find with the Shield 2.0.

Thanks for making the Video. Great elaboration, and breaking it down. MAC (Military Arms Channel) opened my eyes on the Sig P365. With all the problems Sig is having with it right now, there is no way in hell I"m spending $600, and then, have to send it in for repairs after 800 rounds. The Primer Drag & Broken Firing Pins shit needs to be addressed by Sig BEFORE they send another one out the door. I'll wait until next year on the P365 so they can solve the problems. For now though, I'll run and get the S&W M&P Shield 2.0 for $349.99 {maybe even cheaper), and the extension for 10+1 carry. Hell, who knows. I may not even be interested in the P365 when they do get their shit together.

Before last year, I'd never felt compelled to own a weapon until a stranger decided to come into my home unannounced while I was there. Thankfully nothing bad happened after the confrontation. But afterward, I sat down to TH-cam and started researching hand guns. I decided on one, went and purchased it, asked a friend of mine who had some property so he could teach me how to shoot. Went to the property with 3 other people and took turns shooting a 3" metal flapper from 50'. Nobody there ever fired/owned the gun I bought. Not knowing how proficient they were, after seeing them shoot. I thought, these guys' guns are out of whack. It seemed they couldn't shoot straight. It was my turn. I shot about 50 rounds. To everyone's amazement, I hit the bullseye every time. I'd never fired a handgun before. They didn't believe me. Then they shot my gun with about the same results. I shot theirs, they were all much heavier, bigger grip, etc. I had a more difficult time and couldn't hit the target as well. I am 5'7" and they were about the same. Our hands were all about the same. All I know is, the gun fit my hand well. It was comfortable, it did what I wanted. It shot straight and I could hit what I aimed at. Since then I've put about a 1000 rounds through it. Never a misfire or a jamb. I clean it every 200 rounds or so. I buy whatever FMJ copper that's on sale and never steel at the recommendation of the sales guy where I bought it. The gun, S&W Shield 9mm... not the 2.0. It still shoots like it was brand new and just as well with the same results and couldn't be happier with it. Then again, what do I know?

Very good comparison. My thoughts after this:
    1. If you could only have one, the P365 is thinner, smaller, which means the most comfortable and smallest practical and still be 9MM, which opens up your wardrobe.
    2. If you could only have one, which is usually the case, the P365 is stainless, which means no rust, even after the finish gets scratched and being handled without wiping down the slide with oil.
    3. If you could only have one, the P365 magazine can hold 10 rounds with no size or weight sacrifice, and magazine swaps increase your risk.
    4. If you could only have one, the P365's barrel is center line is closer to hand thereby reducing muzzle jump.
    5. If you could only have one, the P365 comes with sights that work at night, and thus could also be used for home defense as-is.
    6. If you could only have one, the extra $150 for the P365 doesn't matter, and unless you are a gunsmith, if you replace the sights on the Shield, it already costs as much as a P365, without all of the other benefits.
    7. From looking at the video it appears the P365 has more clearance for stuff to get into it from the top of the gun than the Shield 2.0.
    8. If you conceal and carry other handguns, and are used to having your thumb in the area occupied by the slide on the P365, then you want the Shield 2.0.
*Both guns can be ordered with safety features that are compliant for their state.
    Specs for Shield 2.0:
    - 20.21 oz.
    - Length 6.1", height 4.4", width 1.03"
    - Barrel length 3.1"
    - Magazine capacity 7
    Specs for P365
    - 17.8 oz. (However, when loaded with the 3 additional rounds...)
    - Length 5.8", height 4.3", width 1.00"
    - Barrel length 3.1"
    - Magazine capacity 10

I’m the same. S&W through and through for my whole life. M&P 9 gen 1 is my favorite firearm I own. My primary carry is a 636 J Frame. I’ve been putting off a small semi auto 9 for carry for years. I went back and forth between the M&P shield, Kimber Micro 9, Hellcat, and Sig P365. I held the hellcat and ruled it out instantly as I didn’t like it’s ergonomics. A friend has the Kimber Micro 9 and I loved how it felt, fit, looked, and carried. The only knock was it has 7+1. It came down to the shield and P365. I went P365 as it felt just as good in my hand as the shield but has more ammo capacity, and is a tad more versatile due to its slightly smaller size. I carry the 12 round mag when I carry it OWB and I carry the 10 round flush plat mag IWB or pocket carry. The shield is too big for me to pocket carry, slightly too large for me to feel comfortable IWB carry.

I purchased that same setup back in December! I tested the trigger and it breaks at 4.6 pounds which is amazing for an OEM trigger. It's now my pocket gun and im glad I purchased the one with the external safety. I love the gun but I still prefer my upgraded shield as a hip gun. I have big hands so I can't shoot the p365 with speed like I can with the shield. It's still a great gun and I think it's the best one for a female. If I had a wife or daughter the p365 is the one I would buy for them. It's basically all you need for Concealed Carry but it's not my top choice because of my hand size. Even with the hogue grip it doesn't feel as good as the shield in my hands. Im red/green color blind so the sights on the p365 doesn't work very well for me.
Everyone has different hand sizes and eye's so there really is no perfect gun. Personally I think everyone should own both pistols because they're both awesome. Now I have the perfect pocket gun and the perfect hip gun for Concealed Carry 😁👍. It's good to have more than one small Carry pistol because it's what you're going to carry the most.

Excellent review. So many great choices out there now, all but a few are excellent guns.
So many people leave comments how they know the perfect handgun for self defensive carrying. They really only know what they like for themselves because not every gun is the best choice for everyone. I would say that reliability is the most important thing, next, hand size is the biggest factor for determining witch gun to get, what fits a persons hand best. Round count is another factor but carry an extra magazine, something everyone should do incase of mag failures, and the round count becomes less important although still real important in a gun fight. Make sure your choice is small and light enough so you will always have it on you, next, get one that you can hit stuff at close range without aiming, you just point it and shoot, and hit your close target because that is a real gunfight, first hit wins, second place, you're dead. Tactics, not fast draw will get you shooting first, never quick draw into a gunfight, always see what is about to happen and be holding your gun when it does, awareness and tactics not quickness gets your shots on target first, first = winning.
You won't have the time or ability to aim with those new night sights, it's a close up, point and shoot game your going to be in, so get a gun you can point and hit, then practice that.
If you shoot or dry fire at least twice a week, you can switch gun choices otherwise, stick to just one gun choice. I shoot a lot and go 50/50 between Glock 26 and Glock 43 depends on what I'm waring or the mood I'm in. I am like the G26 best with the +2 base plate, extra 2 rounds is nice but mostly I like that base plate because it's way easier to draw.
Good luck with your tactics whatever you do.

From Burke in WA.4/20/18. EXCELLENT review. Both guns are top. I pocket carry a shield9 w.green Viridian laser. (Ret.l.e.o.42 yrs.) The SHIELD is available w.external safety if U want one; 365 does NOT. My SHIELD9 carries 10+1 (mag-guts+2). For me, the SHIELD wins. Not 1 failure or issue. It shoots wonderfully and comfortably. It eats ALL ammo 365 can't be found in Seattle area @ this time.

I own them both and love them both. Guns are a funny thing, like many of your followers have mentioned. There is no one size fits all with a firearm. I will never get rid of my shield 9mm, but I'm hoping my 365 will become my edc. I only have 150 rounds through my 365, as I just bought it a week ago. Nov 2018 born on date. There were no failures of any kind for first 150. I hope they really did work out the bugs, I am routing for the 365 to be a reliable gun.

I still prefer the ergos and shootability of my. 45 shield with 185gr rounds but the p365 is a real game changer. Won't really understand the size until u hold it... It's small. After watching you shoot both, I noticed that the shield had a better recoil than the 365. The 365 seemed to recoil back and wavered side to side a bit. But the shield was straight back mostly. So you seemed to shoot it more confidently with a repeatedly quicker next shot.
I think this is to do with the shorter grip mostly. But the shorter barrel does make the issue worse.
I saw the xl 365 does better with the longer barrel. But the short grip is both its best and worse feature in my opinion.
The grip on the 365 looks like it would be great for me with my small hands. But I think I'd have the same result and would find the shield to be better to shoot.
Thank you for the video. As always your comparison was very well done and I really appreciate hearing your opinion. 😎👍

Thanks for an excellent review. I own a 9mm 2.0 Shield -- love it. As they say, the grass is always greener, so I would like to try a 365, but my skepticism is in regards to mass/weight and recoil. Before buying the Shield, I carried an LCP-II 380 ACP, and the small size and recoil just killed my trigger hand. The Shield solved that problem, and I don't want to regress. Shooting the 365 should tell the tale for me.

First and Foremost, I am older than you so you must do as I say! Please continue Safety checking at the beginning of your video's. It's not for me or any other knowledgeable firearms owner, but for those younger and perhaps new to the shooting world it's good training! I can suck it up. I always safety check and lock the slide or open the cylinder before handing my firearm to another, ALWAY'S it's the proper thing to do! Tough choice I can see why the Shield would be your choice! I'm on the opposite side, smaller hands and body frame so the P 365 wins for me. And yes for me more is better! I kept thinking the Shield ran out of ammo before you really got in to it at the range shoot. Really Good and Honest Review, Thank You for your time and effort here.

Great video! Loved the comparison between those two awesome carry guns. I have owned 2 of the original Smith & Wesson Shields (1.0 model) and was pretty impressed with the weapon. However, in your video you make note that you've added a trigger package from Apex, and also changed out the sights. If this had been a straight up stock comparison, hands down the P365 wins. I have my P365 as my EDC, and haven't ever had any malfunctions. I did replace my Springfield XD-S 9mm 4" with the P365. Love the gun, doubt I'll ever change the P365 out for anything else. I have an original run Shield in 9 and after nearly 2,000 rounds it has been absolutely flawless. I have been chasing the “perfect” CCW gun for years and no matter what I buy, I keep coming back to the Shield for size, reliability, accuracy and a proven platform. The 365 is overly concerning with the early run issues.
I did upgrade the sights to TruGlo FTOs and I added some grip tape just to give it a little extra girth in my hand. That corrected my pulling-to-the-left groupings. I do with it had higher capacity but the trade off is right on par and realistically, I likely won’t need more than 9 to take care of business. If I do, I grab the backup mag I always carry.

I bought a Shield 4 years ago and it was my EDC for awhile, and I liked it just fine. Then a couple years ago I bought the P365, and the Shield pretty much sat in the safe. I know that some people have had issues with the P365, but I've put several hundred rounds through mine and haven't had a hiccup. Not saying there's anything wrong with the Shield...they're two different guns with different pros and cons, but I just like the P365 better. I enjoy shooting it more, carries more rounds and yet still more compact...I use the 12 round mags and have no issues carrying it concealed. I still have the Shield, however it's relegated to the bedside table or my wife's purse.

S&W makes some fine firearms, and have even owned a few. The M&P line checks a lot of boxes, but the lack of a magazine safety isn't for me.
Maybe it's because I began on slab-sided pistols, but for whatever reason my hands love the shape of the 365 and the X-series. I naturally cover my shooting hand's thumb with the thumb of my supporting hand, and that brings both down and out of the way of the slide. On the 365 with the 12 round magazine, it feels really secure.

After trying out the S&W, Springfield Hellcat, and Sig P365X, I chose the P365 for its small concealable frame, reliability, accuracy, and capacity( mine came with 3, 12-rounds magazines). What's not to like? One drawback, Price! but it is worth it in my opinion.

Took my wife to the indoor range yesterday, and had her shoot all the most popular single stack nines, against my Sig P365. I had her shoot two rounds with the Sig, and then two with the competitor. Each time she chose the Sig. Over the Glock 43, the Shield, the Walther, the Ruger, and the XDS. She is five feet tall, and 109 pounds.
Having the ability to shoot them all side by side was helpful.

    • @jaycoy59
      @jaycoy59 5 ปีที่แล้ว

OOps,,, I made it sound like she only shot two rounds total. She shot as many as it took for her to pick a winner, and then test the winner against the next pistol in line. She shot at least ten shots,,, two at a time,,, with each pistol. She just kept picking the Sig. The Glock 43 was second.

I had carried the Shield and M&P 9c original for years depending on my attire. The other day I just edited them to the safe. I loved them, but the 365 is smaller than the Shield and holds 10 rounds. I have the 12 round magazine which is a hair bigger than the 7 rounds in the Shield and a hair smaller than the 8 round Shield magazine. One gun covers all my needs now. As fair as reliability I have over 700 flawless rounds with all types of ammo. I have the version after the fix.

At this point in time, 2023, I would've considered the Shield Plus since it has the same ammo capacity as the P365, but I prefer the smaller yet still accurate one. Plus, it's the certified Navy Seals Recommended edc firearm. So, I'm very pleased with my P365. Very light and very concealable!!!

  • @midsouthexplorers7702
    @midsouthexplorers7702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Own both. The Shield gets carried more, although I think the 365 is a great little pistol too. The Shield just has that 'go to war' feeling that is hard to quantify or describe. The 365 is almost too small for my hands, and takes a fraction of a second longer to get a purchase on the gun. I still keep it around for deep concealment b/c it has a tendency to print less than the Shield. Bottom line, see what you shoot with better and go with that.

I really like my P365. As of now I have 350 trouble-free rounds. However, I can see noticeable wear on the barrel and denting on the corners of the casing of the barrel opposite the feeder ramp. I also have a Sig M11-A1 and a P226 Legion SAO - both with many, many more rounds through them and they both show less wear than the P365 is showing. I do like the gun and enjoy shooting it. But, I am concerned about the wear…

Finally shot my P365 and Shield 9mm (Non M2.0). Put 150 rounds through the P365 and I am impressed. It performed 100% reliable. Trigger is excellent, but hard to beat the Apex trigger in my Shield. I was more accurate with first shots with my Shield, but due to being more familiar with it since I have carried it for many years now.
The P365 was easy to get used to though and it is very accurate. I pretty much see the P365 replacing my Shield at this point. Still going to put a about 400 more rouns through the P365 before I commit. Never thought I would replace the Shield. I don't think I will be selling or trading it off though.
As for looks, I think the Sheild wins hands down! The P365 is just not great looking, but hey that is not the point of it.
I agree with you on the Shield mag release, it is perfect. Now on the P365 I can't actuate the mag release with my firing hand because it pushed into my palm. Will have to use my non firing hand. No big deal just training.
    Great video as always, KS!

I will say this about my M&P Shield, or the one that my wife carries. We have put way over a 1k rounds through though them, and neither has ever Jammed. Now I did have a mist fire, but it was bc of cheap target ammo and I say this bc, the round that miss fired in mine, I put in my wifes M&P, and it didn't fire in hers either. So IMO, it was a bad cap bc it miss fired in both our M&P's!!!! I will also say, the M&P in the 40 cals for sure, has more slide tension that I've ever felt in a semi auto hand gun!!!

    Love your videos!!
I am one of the Glock fanboy wannabes-I loved the look and feel of the 43 and 19- that being said I just could not shoot them accurately- those triggers do not work FOR ME...so they went for a couple Sigs p320 and P365
Back to the point, I was fortunate to get my hands on a 365 and I have the shield 2.0-both stock with night sights
My hands are medium size so the 365 grip is fine for me- I think the 2.0 grip is a bit too aggressive for me but I’m getting used to it-
I think recoil is about the same in these guns and my experience so far (200 rounds in each) is that the 365 is a bit more accurate- for me!
That being said the shield is a bit more fun for me to shoot just because of the grip size- but for EDC I think the 365 goes if only because of the 10 plus 1
I thank God we live in a country where we don’t have to choose just 1! 😊
    I LOVE THEM BOTH!!

I don’t live there, I live in California where, for now, Shield 2.0 and the P365 are NOT allowed to be sold to regular citizens because they do NOT appear on the current roster of allowed for sale hand guns!!! I own and LOVE the first gen Shield. I bought for my 13 year old daughter because she said it felt the best in hand; I am so jealous, I am thinking of getting another for me!
