  • How to Crochet the Flat Braid Join for your Unicorn Dreams Blanket CAL Squares. 🦄 This method is fantastic as you only have 2 ends to weave in! The Flat Braid Continuous Join is also incredibly forgiving which means it is perfect for joining squares which have different stitch counts or are slightly different sizes. In this video I give a full step by step walk through of all stages of joining your blanket, from the first square right to through to the last!

    🔥 Frequently Asked Questions:
    Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on TH-cam yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
    How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
    How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
    Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
    How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
    Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
    Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

    I have been doing the braided join for a while now, and I just came across your video. I've always gone in rows up and down the blanket creating tail ends that I would have to weave in later. I cannot thank you enough for this video, joining each square individually has made my braided join so much cleaner and easier. Thank you so much!

    ROBIN!! Have I told you lately how much I love you?? 💕 😂 this is perfect timing!! I needed this today! I am doing both the unicorn CAL and an animal squares blanket and this was just the bestest time for this in the whole world!! I am so thankful it is not just me that does not have all the same size squares!! Lol!! I just ordered some Scheepjes and Paintbox yarns and I am excited to make some of your blankets next! Wooty hoots!! Love the nail color too today! It’s a perfect neutral!!

      😂 I thought it was important to show how my squares were all over the place too with sizing and stitch count as I wanted to show that it's normal and 100% not a problem! Sometimes people get so wrapped up in being perfect that it sucks the joy out of what you're making - I'm all for a bit of fudging and slapped dash-ness as it's supposed to be fun! 😂 I will have to look up the animal squares (sounds like fun!) Who is running that CAL? x

I have had to learn some new and original fudging for the animal blanket!! Some of those animals are giving me fits!! I have another Grandbaby due the 23rd of this month. Another Boy!! Then my 3rd G-baby will arrive in April!!! I am the most excited MiMi!! We don’t know what the little Easter Egg, as I call my daughters baby, is going to be yet. But my daughter is doing the nursery in gray, yellow and white. I finally found the yarn!! It’s European yarn, I cannot remember the name of the yarn. I have never used it but I am thinking of doing your Lotus Blanket that broken the internet and broke Pinterest Robin!!

    What patience you have! Wow. Actually seems simple joining but there's so much technique to learn! I'm trying this for small 32 granny squares, about 2"X2". I could get 7 loops with adjustment in one corner. After attaching 4 squares I thought I better make only 2 chains instead of 3 and 4 at the corners instead of 5 as the gaps were not so clear. Will it work out better this way, I want to know?

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can alter the number of chains and the number of loops no problem! It will still work :)

    Hi Robyn! I am in awe of your talent, and hope this hasn't been asked before, but I'm attempting to join a granny square cardigan (the squares are different sizes) with this stitch, and was wondering if the number of "bumps" can change from 13 to say 11? Will this muck things up at all?
    Thanks in advance?

    I love this method for joining. Is the magic 13 necessary if I am joining plain granny squares ( they each have 23 sitches between the corners) .

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can do any number to suit your squares - it doesn't need to be 13! Just as long as it's the same number on each side you'll be fine :) It's very adaptable! X

    Quick question, for larger blankets (I am doing a granny square temperature blanket where each month is a panel), would we just do the braid in multiples of 13, or how would it work with larger sizes of blankets? :)

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can work the braid in any number! The only thing that matters for the flat braid join is that you have the same number on each side - other than that it is totally flexible. I'd advise evenly spacing them and then counting how many you have for that first edge 👍 You can even do more chains and skip more stitches for wider more lacy joins if you fancied it!
