Nice one Ralfy. Love to see it when it's finished. Ummm! AC is for welding aluminium. The cleaning part (electrode positive of the AC cycle) is actually for breaking through the oxide layer on the surface of aluminium , which has a much higher melting temperature than the aluminium underneath. The actual welding bit is done by the electrode negative part of the cycle. IE it doesn't really clean. Try some acetone, wire brush and then weld or braze with DC (standard electrode negative). A bit of spitting and hissing is to be expected on old metals.
