I found a 750ml bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta 12yr for $29.99 at my local liquor store this morning. It came with a 50ml bottle of their 10yr and a glass! I'm new to whiskey and am very much enjoying this channel!
Picked up a bottle for $50 on sale the other day. Quite a value these days, though I too noticed that the ABV is lower and they removed the non-chill filtration declaration. Would love to see a new review of this version.
Great information Ralfy! Since finding your website I've been more selective in my choice of whisky, and I'm enjoying it more. Thank you! Sincerely, Ossie
Would like to see you review the Lasanta again, now that it's 43% and chill-filtered. I love it personally, but would be interested in the comparison of old vs. new.
Appreciating straight whiskeys later in my life. I appreciate all the additional distilling and aging information you provide. I would never sense many of the tasting notes if you hadn’t suggested them.
Just purchased and tasting this expression tonight. At first I was unsure of this whisky, but then after letting the bottle sit open for an hour------and also letting a dram sit w/a few drops of choice spring water REALLY opened up the fruity tart candied sweetness quite nicely. The oak comes thru as a nice bitterness from the middle to the finish-------the flavor profile keeps changing each time I take a sip------the nose is the epitome of elegant------the flavors are absolutely complex----the lasting note from the mild bitter finish is floral & mildly sweet----perfume like in a pleasant way..... Found another favorite.... SLAINTE!
Craziest thing happened to me tonight. I was comparing both the Lasanta vs the Nectar d'Or and Old Speckled Hen English Ale vs Belhaven Scottish Ale concurrently. So I poured a pint of both the ales and a half a dram of each into a glass and used the Appleton Estate Signature Blend as an agent to clear olfaction and the palate. Left the room for a few minutes and when I returned, the place smelled pleasantly of floral perfume. Finished the drams, left the room again, and the smell was gone. The fleeting moments that make sense in our lives and/or leave it senseless. Thanks Ralfy.
Hello Ralfy! I think you should do a re-review of this malt. I am interested to hear your thoughts on the Lasanta, especially now it has been reduced to 43% and it appears to be chill-filtered and coloured, though I could be wrong on the latter two.
This is one of my favorite reviews. My dads coming to visit for the weekend and my brother and I were trying to choose a single malt for the occasion. My Dad loves scotch but his daily drinker is scoresby. My brother was keen on Auchontoshen while my idea was this glenmorangie. I pulled up this review and wouldn’t ya know Ralfy touches on Both malts! He also added some of his sublime knowledge about maturing different malts. These 25 minutes were absolutely fascinating to us both. I’ve shown my brother Ralfy before but this was actually special. Thanks dude! ✊🏼 Edit: forgot, we went with this. I’ve only had cheap blends- never had a single malt so I am looking forward to this. I’m a bourbon guy. But I’ve watched probably a third of Ralfys videos the last two years so I actually know a lil bit about scotch- more than my brother who has had a wide variety of scotch. Anywhoo… sorry for rambling. I’m legally stoned in New Jersey. 😂
I'm glad you finally came around to this one, Ralfy! I liked this whisky since years ago! Love the south western corn bread and yellow peppers in addition to the refined coco and sherry wine notes with the threads of honey through out. It's a great whisky for the price and I haven't been disappointed from a bottle of it yet. Cheers mate! my mark: 90/100.
Just tried this one for the first time. Very informative episode! Certainly more complex and interesting with the double casking. Although my bottle comes in at 43%. Well done!
A very thorough and fair review. Ralfy, of course, nails the problem with “spin” finishes; the emphasis is usually on the type, or even number, of casks used for the purposes of marketing copy, but not on the time IN these casks, so actual cask influence is impossible to know in terms of improvement. Taking that one step further, it’s also true of primary maturation and NAS-labeled products in general. Although “craft presentation” (enhanced ABV, no chill-filtration, no E150a) is of benefit to any whisky it’s applied to, the end result depends very much upon the duration, and quality, of cask maturation. The age of NAS-labeled products, therefore, for good or ill, isn’t unimportant simply because producers don’t want to discuss it.
I think they reduced the proof to 86 (43%). Was either this or the Quinta. Ralfy, have you reviewed the Glenmorangie Nectar d'or? I would love to hear your opinion on it, as I've heard it's lovely.
Fun fact: The original stills at Glenmorangie were actually Gin stills. They are still built/repaired to those original specifications. This is why we get those tall stills!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, always enjoy the extra information you give in your reviews. Why is there more & more malt available esp at duty free shops which have no age statements? What is the purpose? I'm yet to warm up to them be it taste esp the finish & value they offer.
This is one that I have in my cabinet. Was suggested by a coworker I enjoy it thoroughly but so far my favorite has been macallan 15. Going to my first tasting this week Savoy of Buffalo. They call it whiskey Wedsday. Single malts are definitely not as popular as micro brewery beer in Buffalo.. Not complaining just wish there were more places to visit here hopefully some day I'll be in Scotland for holiday.
Seem to recall all these different Glenmorangie expressions being referred to in an less than nice way back in the original Glenmorangie 10 review. Interesting. HA! Nice review. One of my favourite whiskies, just a good warmer. Also interesting that it's now 43%.
prices are going up everywhere. my award for most obscenely priced whisky this year goes to Ben Nevis (ignoring Macallan 18) and their 15y single cask sherry version-159 Euros! you get a Toamtin 30yo for that money. even indy bottlers are pushing it. Douglais Laing with Old Malt Cask is a good example. mid aged Whiskies in the OMC range from half dead refill casks aproaching 100 EUR currently. all the while auction houses are booming, because everybody is bent on getting "old school" whiskies. i wanted to buy the 12yo Highland Park single cask for Oddbins at auction , but gave up when it reached 100+ pounds. there are indeed value for money whiskies out there, but i dont feel like drinking Ardmore traditional for the rest of my life. and even that one got discontinued. so i have to accept it and pay the price.
Thanks for this video. I just received a bottle of this (43% not 46% I honestly don't know the difference since I'm new) and a bottle of Bushmills 10 year (Irish) for Christmas. Totally new to single malts, and I just wanted to see a review by someone who is more experienced in the area than I am. I'm an American, so most of my experience with whisky / whiskey is just the widely marketed Jack Daniels / Jim Beam etc. I've just been trying to find something a bit more "classy" that fits my tastes to sip on than mass market American bourbons.
Great long video Ralfy, thanks a lot! I just wanted to ask you something about double matured whisky. Recently I bought a Glenlivet 15 yo, which I understood is The Glenlivet 12 yo then matured in French oak casks, and I found it quite shallow, flat, almost no taste nor perfume... It's my bad luck or it is a wrong choice to use Cognac barrels?
It should never be your 'bad luck' to be expected to pay full price for inferior product. We have to choose carefully, whiskybase and whiskyfun are a good place to start for opinions
Ralfy, maybe the Aberlour 12 NCF would be worth a go? Don't think you've reviewed that one? For many years it seemed to only be available in the US but I think you can get it in the UK now, seems like it'd be up your alley.
First time in London in probably 8 months, into Tesco...little cold last week when I arrived so I have a look for my old pal Laphroaig...£37? When did they do that? I remember buying it for £25.50 only two years ago, granted it was on special bt it is still only 30E in France, are they taking the piss?
Hello Ralfy. Found QuintaRuban last nite, along w/the Lasanta both @46%.unchill... went with the Portwood (and it kind of made me say hmmm;) very interesting stuff indeed. Thanks for that call Ralfy Need to grab some of those Lasanta46% I guess while they're still there on the shelf. For me I'd go it GQR 87-88/100. Only because of the strength of that character in the Quiito very good but overpowering in some respects if you know what I mean. Peace
Is the first maturation of this whiskey the same profile as the Glenmorangie 10year “ classic” ? Are they just taking the original and putting it in the sherry cask?
Have you tried Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Lasanta (43%) " This is the 12 year old, Sherry cask finished expression from Glenmorangie, the Lasanta, bottled at a slightly lower ABV of 43% (originally it was bottled at 46%). It first matures in bourbon casks before being moved over to Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks for a finishing period. "
Its a very good Whisky, but there's E150 added....shown separately on german online shops. They say "mit Farbstoff". I like this whisky with or without E150.
Hello Ralfy. Great review, yeah. Speaking of Bruchladdich they seem to have virtually fallen off the map with the retirement of JM. They were everywhere! I feel they did some great things with "those" 8000 barrels Better to have enjoyed it when it was around rite? They did get a little goofy there at the end of that good run as they stre-eeech their last goodens!! Peace
Some people on the whisky forums have emailed Glenmorangie about caramel coloring and the response revealed that ONLY the Glenmorangie Original 10 year old gets a minimal amount of E150a for consistency purposes. The rest of the Glenmorangie line are not colored at all. Again, why they don't mention this on the label is another matter.
Burnt nuts? Clove? Are you a sulphur tolerant person? Any time I've tried the regular Lasanta it's been horrible - open drains, rotten eggs, that bad! And I normally enjoy Glenmo 10, Nectar D'Or, etc. Would be interested to know your thoughts somewhere down the line as the Lasanta oxidises too. Thanks for the review.
In regards to your comments about green whiskies, it's March shouldn't the distilleries be bottling some special St Patrick's day collectors editions????
As far as I know (and I might be wrong) there has to be a minimum of 3 years of maturation for any single malt, esp. NAS versions..? Thx malt mate for these longer reviews. It is just nice to slowly sip a dram while watching. Cheers.
Of course you are right about the 3 years minimum. :-) I suppose Ralfy was implying that that was the case all along, since by laws distilleries could not take into consideration bottling such a young spirit as part of anything named scotch whisky.
Great work as always rafly. Im new to scotch single malts and I really enjoy your reviews, they are a big help when picking out a bottle! It would be interesting to hear your opinion on the difference between Glenmorangie lasanta 12 and Glenmorangie 18 year. Both spend the majority of their life in american white oak and finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. I have enjoyed them both and would like to hear your expert opinion on the difference between the two. Cheers!
In my opinion, a very inconsistent malt whisky, 3 out of 4 different bottles I've tasted through the years have been totally tainted with sulphur from the sherry casks. It makes me wonder how such batches can go through Glenmorangies quality control or even worse that they use these casks in the beginning.
I've always liked Glenmorangie but also didn't like the original Sherry version. I strongly miss the Madeira version which I loved but they discontinued.
Ralfy - Have you tried, or do you have any thoughts on the Quinta Rubin version of Glenmorangie 12, finished with port? I have found it a pleasent surprise for the money, here in the States it was pretty low price, about 36 Euro.
Lasanta is my favorite Glenmorangie. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy the Glenmorangie line. To me, It tastes like a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 with 1/2 drop of sherry added.
You mentioned Bruichladdich's "expression craze" has died down; what unpeated, reasonably priced whisky of theirs would you recommend now that the Laddie 10 has been (regrettably) discontinued?
Laddie 10 has been discontinued? And here I am sipping it like it's already gone out of style... Maybe there will be a Laddie 11 just like the Port Charlotte...
I just purchased a bottle of this and noticed once I got it home where my better reading glasses were at. That this bottle says 43% and that it is Chill-filtered??? A bit disappointed.
Hi Ralfy, what would you suggest to someone who wants to get an old school "experience" i.e Brora, Port Ellen, Rosebank etc, but doesn't have the cash to pay £600 or more at auction? It seems to me that unless you are prepared to pay big money it would be difficult for a relative novice whisky drinker to ever experience older malts, 2014 30yo Caol Ila rrp £500 (ouch) could you comment please.
***** according to whiskey.com review on youtube, this spirt is now chill-filltered and bottled at 43%abv. My advice would be to grab a few older bottles for the collection
Yep, the new version has 43% AND is now finished in Oloroso + PX casks. My old version states added caramel colorant - although it might not be much. The new Lasanta btw is the only one of the three newly packaged finish line (Lasanta, Quinta Ruban, Nectar d'Or) which changed content-wise. I specifically asked a company's spokesperson at a fair this summer. What they did do though according to some vendors I know is to raise the net prices up to 10 EUR/bottle. So if you like the stuff I can only second Shane Hughes' advice: grab some older bottles as long as you can.
At this moment im enjoying a dram of this and i do agree with all you have said. The "candy" note you picked out is what i have come to find as a light Swedish fish candy note. I also found a note of lemon grass. Very fine review. Thank you sir
To add a bit to Ralfy's discussion around minute 20 on the origins of Auchentoshan Three Wood (noting that it was borne of a mistake): th-cam.com/video/6BWyGS_i_Fk/w-d-xo.html
TheOneGlassMan The PX finish is actually sorta good. The old Lasanta had this strong sherry funk on the nose that I also find in Macallan so the PX finish evens out the nose. The only thing I hate is that drop to 43% which made the Lasanta thinner on the palate. Had the ABV stayed at the original number, this would be a great Glenmorangie.
I have a bottle of 1968 Dupeyron armagnac in my cupboard that was brought back from Poland as a gift many years ago, I was wondering if you would know the value of it nowadays? Thanks!
Guy can describe a whiskey better than I can describe myself
😂
I found a 750ml bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta 12yr for $29.99 at my local liquor store this morning. It came with a 50ml bottle of their 10yr and a glass! I'm new to whiskey and am very much enjoying this channel!
Wow! You got a great deal compared to some locations. It’s $49.99 in my “control” state and doesn’t include a miniature.
Ossie Weinert . . . happy to help with the malt-moments !
I second that!
Me 2 youst the same, reely now i buy a 40abv
Hi Ralfy, this whisky is worth a re-review now that it's bottled at only 43%.
Would like to see you review the Lasanta again, now that it's 43% and chill-filtered. I love it personally, but would be interested in the comparison of old vs. new.
Why did they chill filter it and reduce to 43%?

Hello Ralfy! I think you should do a re-review of this malt. I am interested to hear your thoughts on the Lasanta, especially now it has been reduced to 43% and it appears to be chill-filtered and coloured, though I could be wrong on the latter two.
agreed. Lasanta has declined a bit but the 14 year old Quinta Ruban is a revelation.
This is one of my favorite reviews. My dads coming to visit for the weekend and my brother and I were trying to choose a single malt for the occasion. Mix your Glemorangie La Santa // Quinta Ruben 12 with Yuu Baal Mezcal (Yuu Baal Pechuga is preferable).
Great review, R-man! Can you do a review of the Nectar d'or by Glenmorangie?
Wouldn't it be great if Glenmorangie started producing a craft version of the "original" bottled at 46% and un chill filtered?
I'm glad you finally came around to this one, Ralfy! I liked this whisky since years ago! It's a great whisky for the price and I haven't been disappointed from a bottle of it yet. Cheers mate! my mark: 90/100.
My mouth dried up and turned to the wood character the moment you mentioned tannins (at 7:05). Incredible. Thank you.
Just tried this one for the first time. Very informative episode! Certainly more complex and interesting with the double casking. Although my bottle comes in at 43%. Well done!
I’m a brand ambassador and thank you for helping me to be honest in my opinions and professional ease to the whisky going crowd. Great reviewer.
. . . always happy to help with the malt-moments !
Great review, this 12-year-old is one of my favorite whiskeys.
one of the best single malts
always available in my home bar
haven't seen these for a while and they are still brilliant, keep up the great work ralfy
Hey Ralfy, would like to see you reviewing it again.

I always enjoy your reviews, Ralfy. And, more than often, I learn neat stuff too!
I understand you live on the Isle of Man and the three legs thing but you're a Scotsman Ralph. Where's the Lion Rampant?
I think they reduced the proof to 86 (43%). Was either this or the Quinta.
Ralfy, have you reviewed the Glenmorangie Nectar d'or? I would love to hear your opinion on it, as I've heard it's lovely.
can confirm sadly, holding a 43% Lasanta in my hand
I bought a bottle and enjoyed it over the last few months. I’m no expert but it was worth every penny and then some. Pure joy to drink.
I'm yet to warm up to them be it taste esp the finish & value they offer.
the discontinued 46% is wonderful, I prefer it a lot more than the 43% version, good job I have some spares!
Always a well presented evaluation! Excellent Scotch!
Seem to recall all these different Glenmorangie expressions being referred to in an less than nice way back in the original Glenmorangie 10 review. Interesting. HA! Nice review. One of my favourite whiskies, just a good warmer. Also interesting that it's now 43%.
Malt mention: Mighty Morphin' Malt Rangers
I poured myself a dram of Glenfarclas 15, went to see the new review and what a surprise. Thank you Ralfy for the malt mention!
AlexK your welcome, and due to not ticking off that I used your M-mention for WR 498, you get a REPEAT M-m in WR499 . . . an accidental first !
***** Looks like a lucky week for me :) Got to buy myself a lottery ticket!
Great whisky
Would not have thought this would be your 498 review

I have a full unopened bottle of this wee beauty waiting in the cupboard for a special occasion. Really looking forward to it now!

So many great whiskies, so little money...
switch to rum !
Ralfy, maybe the Aberlour 12 NCF would be worth a go? Don't think you've reviewed that one? For many years it seemed to only be available in the US but I think you can get it in the UK now, seems like it'd be up your alley.

Not taking the piss, but however, are taking your hard earned brass!
Interesting photo. Anyway, specials mate. Never buy regular price alcohol from the supermarkets.
Hello Ralfy.

Is the first maturation of this whiskey the same profile as the Glenmorangie 10year “ classic” ? Are they just taking the original and putting it in the sherry cask?
thank you for your honest reviews im in usa i drink ehat i like dont care about the price either , price doesnt make for good
Have you tried Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Lasanta (43%) " This is the 12 year old, Sherry cask finished expression from Glenmorangie, the Lasanta, bottled at a slightly lower ABV of 43% (originally it was bottled at 46%). It first matures in bourbon casks before being moved over to Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks for a finishing period. "

"Unmasking the Great Oz"!!
goodstuff Ralfy.
Some people on the whisky forums have emailed Glenmorangie about caramel coloring and the response revealed that ONLY the Glenmorangie Original 10 year old gets a minimal amount of E150a for consistency purposes. The rest of the Glenmorangie line are not colored at all.
Again, why they don't mention this on the label is another matter.
shuboy05 mentioning on the label is a contract, e-mails from Glenmorangie making provenance claims are no substitute for REAL info on bottle labels
They add color and chill filtered in 2021 when i brought a bottle of Grenmorangie Lasanta 12 yeas old. :(
Burnt nuts?
Happy New Years ralfy I'll enjoy a glass for you
Just bought a bottle and mine is 43%. Absolutely stunning whiskey though
More Sage Advice thanks for the review Ralfy.
Hey Ralfy,
So how do you feel about the Glenlivet 25 (XXV) as a double matured whisky? Love your stuff!
I suppose Ralfy was implying that that was the case all along, since by laws distilleries could not take into consideration bottling such a young spirit as part of anything named scotch whisky.
Antiquity is a blue whisky from India.
Ralfy please review the Glenmorangie Ealanta 1993 vintage. I'd love to hear your opinion of it being "whisky of the year". Thanks Malt Mate.
I know it's some cheap stuff, but would you care to review Canadian Club? It would be interesting, and you could put on your best Don Draper for it.
Rallerboy888 I believe that is Whisky Review 107
shuboy05 Yup, I just discovered it :)
Hi ralfy, always enjoyed your reviews. Honest and factual. Where do most whisky retailers get their stock from? It’s not obvious at all!
Cheers!
Hey Ralfy!! Just posted this video over at Scotch Cinema. Loved the review.
What would you say about the Highland Park Warrior series? Particularly the cheaper 3. Was thinking of buying one at Duty Free.
William Wakefield . . . not impressed with my last taste of the cheapest 'warrior' option.
I got a 43% chill filtered, must be a differente version, I live in mexico
Yeah, 43% here in the Chicago area. The Quinta Ruban is at 46% here though.
In my opinion, a very inconsistent malt whisky, 3 out of 4 different bottles I've tasted through the years have been totally tainted with sulphur from the sherry casks. It makes me wonder how such batches can go through Glenmorangies quality control or even worse that they use these casks in the beginning.
So far, I like this better than the Quinta Ruban and Nectar D'Or but I'll be doing more tasting of them.
. . . always good to double-check !
87 i agree with that but I'm a sap for sherry cask whiskeys
I've always liked Glenmorangie but also didn't like the original Sherry version. I strongly miss the Madeira version which I loved but they discontinued.
Ralfy - Have you tried, or do you have any thoughts on the Quinta Rubin version of Glenmorangie 12, finished with port? I have found it a pleasent surprise for the money, here in the States it was pretty low price, about 36 Euro.
review in the archives !
Thanks!
Lasanta is my favorite Glenmorangie. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy the Glenmorangie line. To me, It tastes like a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 with 1/2 drop of sherry added.
Ralfy~~ I am finally start progressing to highland whisky! I been thinking on buying 18yo glenmorangie, can you do a review on it please? thank you
Ralfy did u ever try the Peated glenmorangie? I'm not a big 'morangie fan but would love to try that one.
Tim TheWhiskyNut yes, not impressed.
Good to know! Thanks.
Maybe there will be a Laddie 11 just like the Port Charlotte...
foodquig nope, the classic NAS replaces the 10. The only sell the 10 limited at the distillery.
***** . . . can't recommend anything at the moment.
*****
Thanks, I was afraid of that; guess I'll drink my last glass of the Laddie 10 in memory of what could have been.
This one reminded me of Dalwhinnir Distillers Edition...very good this one..better than I expected!😋
You're the best, malt mate!
I just purchased a bottle of this and noticed once I got it home where my better reading glasses were at. That this bottle says 43% and that it is Chill-filtered??? A bit disappointed.
Ralfy, any plans to review Auchentoshan Three Wood?
Robert Rogers . . . not at the moment.
Ralfy - ever tried Talisker Dark Storm? If so - what is your opinion? cheers!
sinterklaasje1975 . . . not tired it yet, but not looking to either at the moment, it looks like young, immature sherry-infused stuff !
***** thanks for your feedback - always good to get an additional opinion! :-)
*****
It is young, but not sherry-infused as far as I could tell. Not bad, though I wouldn't buy again probably.
Malt Mention: Glenmorangie Companta. Perhaps you will review this delicious malt =)
***** look out for Glenfarclas 25 and 30yo
***** Love the green bottle and tube of the 21, looks so Scottish!
For my $$$ - it's hard to beat the Aberlour 12 yr Non-Chill filter whisky.
I heard that the 46% abv bottle has been replaced for a 43%abv new edition
Shane Hughes I hope not !
All whiskey tasters are absolute fannies
At this moment im enjoying a dram of this and i do agree with all you have said. The "candy" note you picked out is what i have come to find as a light Swedish fish candy note. I also found a note of lemon grass. Very fine review. Thank you sir
Great review Ralfy. Maybe first today
I don't know how but in the moment that took Ralfy to get the right malt mark card out I have guessed his rating to be going to be 86/87.
Its french for santa claus
To add a bit to Ralfy's discussion around minute 20 on the origins of Auchentoshan Three Wood (noting that it was borne of a mistake): th-cam.com/video/6BWyGS_i_Fk/w-d-xo.html
Think from the comments, this needs a re review..
It is now bottled at 43% some say it is better.. Others are saying it is Not good?
Glenmorangie has released a new version of La Santa: 43%ABV, chilled filtered and and extra PX finished....a step in the wrong direction ....
TheOneGlassMan . . . agreed, there are hard economic times ahead, now is not the time to down-grade your product.
Magnificent malt myrmidons!!!
. . . now on the M-mention List, thanks !
Really good scotch whisky.
I have a bottle of 1968 Dupeyron armagnac in my cupboard that was brought back from Poland as a gift many years ago, I was wondering if you would know the value of it nowadays? Thanks!
Interesting.. only heard complaints about Lansanta before. How does it compare to Quinta Ruban @ralfystuff
Ths was a terifik n overly insytful vid Ralfy...cuda bin #500 material. that gud!!
@ 15:46 area made me laf!
Exquisito 👍
Cheers Ralfy. You and I should have a dram or two some day.
Its almost #500 It seems like yesterday I sent Ralfy a limerick for his 100th.!
My bottle has a strange, cardboardy aftertaste. No where near as good as the Glendronach 12.
delicious malt-moment!
