Thank you DCA, Seth, Thomas, and KC. You have made it a great year for all of us in the knife community. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the vids this year, best wishes for the next coming year.
I almost never watch hour long videos but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I am a big fan of the Knife Center and the videos that you produce. I live nearby and I have purchased many knives in my growing collection from the Knife Center. Thanks again for a great video and I wish you well in the coming year.
Gentlemen, there is nothing like this, at least that I've seen, in the knife world. The videos are are an exquisite mix. They are cerebral, accessible, and practical. I love the palpable enthusiasm that reminds me of the wide-eyed kid in me who first fell in love with blades. I love the esoteric tidbits of knife lore that bring to life so many of hidden virtues of the knives. I'm a big fan. Keep the videos coming.
Have one of your Lil' Natives in Cruwear and smooth G10 coming today, and I literally can't wait. The fact you guys were able to sell them at $125 (sub $30 from the base S30V version), is astonishing and I greatly appreciate you guys always being at the forefront of the best and most competitive prices among dealers. Happy New Years KC crew!
My favorite purchases of 2022. The civivi baby banter, Benchmade redoubt, and Becker bk16 with a custom kydex scout sheath. Thanks knife center. Great channel, great website, and great customer service.
Agreed, especially DCA and Seth V! Came here from the other end of the year video on this subject. I love knives, but others Gering out on knives really amps up the pleasure! I was WOWd by Seth's Darn Dao
Thank you Seth and DCA for the years worth of amazing content. I look forward to your videos every week. Much love from the Bluegrass State and can’t wait to see what comes out in 2023!!
Lol, when Seth said “If you buy a knife with the intention to modify it right away, it’s probably not the knife for you.” I let out an audible chuckle. I have skinny scales, ti deep carry clip, and ti backspacer for a shaman sitting in a drawer waiting for my shaman to get here. I don’t even plan on carrying it stock, it’s getting modded right out of the box. I just love modding knives and making them my own, particularly Spyderco’s. I own 5 Spyderco knives right now and only the Spydiechef stayed original.
I think thats from the standpoint of a person who normally doesn't mod their knives knowing they're going to have to mod them to fix a feature they don't like, not someone who just likes to mod everything to make it their own as a standard practice
I absolutely LOVE my Benchmade 525 Mini-Presidio og version. It was actually my first Benchmade, and my first premium knife period. I've been hooked ever since!
Ya I've got the swordfish in D2, love it but i wish the scales had more grip to them. I got the Bestech artic and I wish the scales on that were on the Sword. Still wouldn't give it up tho!
Definitely my favorite video of the year. To hear knife guys talking about knives is the best kind of video. Hope we can see more of this kind of content in the future. Thanks and Happy New Year David and Seth.
I've been around the "Lenses people" and I swear that they are weird. Now that I frequent the "blades people", I find them elevate the weird factor to the next level. They are sharp and unbeatable. I know that chefs do amazing things with their knives, but I wonder who could be a "knife pro" and what they cut with their expensive knives beside cardboard. Good show guys!
I have carried everything from Spyderco, to Benchmade, to Strider, to ZT. It wasn’t until a friend showed me his Cold Steel Voyager XL that I found the knife that I had been looking for all my life. It’s larger than average, but I have large hands and it feel like it belongs on my hand. I have one that I’ve been EDC for 3 years. I purchased two more to keep on the shelf in case I loose my EDC.
Love what Seth V said about no drama, drop dates etc. I missed out on so many GEC and my first LT Wright to where i still haven't tried any. I have wanted DLT Trading exclusive Ranch Hand and they finally had any in stock Christmas 2023 to no avail. Im very grateful i went so long without getting Spyderco Zoomer since KnifeCenter pushed me over the edge with a great, almost half price in the ramp up to Christmas. Thanks, KnifeCenter!
spyderco collector - not anymore - in Europe the price for the Shaman went up from 235 to 335 over night Spyderco no thanks. Of course everthing gets more expensive today but about 30 procent? Na not with me - went for nice Fox Knive. My Salary didn´t went up 30 procent sorry Sypderco
that sounds more like a your DISTRIBUTOR issue not spyderco. you are putting the blame on spyderco when it’s whatever dealer you buy from that is the one raising their prices, as spyderco doesn’t raise their prices except for once a year. and when they do, they don’t up it by 1/3.
Seth and DCA, over this year, I have found that I carry a fixed nearly every day. That being said, I do have a suggestion for you DCA. When I want a large folder, I reach for my Strider SMF every time. It is wildly comfortable, and the "snap" acoustics from the titanium frame lock and the aluminum show scale are spectacular! If you haven't tried a Jim Skelton fixed blade, they have become my true everyday knives. I am enamored with them. Merry Christmas all, enjoy your time with friends and family!
Seem to have a lot of similar tastes in knives as Seth, would love to see a video exclusively on his Spyderco collection. If that video already exists let me know. Thanks for sharing your grabs from this year. Cheers to 2023
Awesome video. Love these vids that review the year in knives. DCA & Seth thanks for giving us the info behind your decisions & calling out the different aspects of the knives (good, bad & indifferent) - really helps us at the other end make informed purchases. So glad to see a knife store being prepared to highlight positives and potential negatives - rare integrity these days. As a side note I found my perfect small EDC fixed blade this year - Brisa Bobtail. Good quality, right size and egos that melt into my hand. Sharp blades all.
I literally just purchased the Presidio II from you guys on Christmas Day and I am loving this knife. I was carrying a bugout S90V because I used to think a lighter , small knife was better. I am now a convert to a weighty, substantial knife. Sure it's S30V but that is a great steel in and of itself. I am loving it and you guys shipped it SO fast.
The fun is my preference on fixed blades is getting more kitchen oriented. I started raw brutal survival and progressed through to wanting the best experience my kitchen can offer
I do the same thing with the precidio. I get bored and look for a knife that is better and then end up back with it in my hands again. It is just a a great knife that always flies under the radar. I have the aluminum version and it just feels so strong.
Wish I had gotten one of those Pena's. Found an old tl29 electricians knife of my grandpa's recently. Was beyond restoring so I picked up a vintage case in the pattern for a reasonable price. Been carrying it a lot lately. And a native 5 kinda has me back to basics this year
Happy New Year! Great stuff guys! One of my favorite go to carries in my collection is the KnifeCenter exclusive Bestech Swordfish with tuxedo handle and black S35VN blade. It's a perfect 4" folder. So good looking and well built. You can't feel the seam between the black and white G10 handle scales, and the flipping/drop shut action is so excellent.
For the next FAQ I really wanna learn more about high end free hand sharpening stones, especially DMT vs Shapton Glass. How do the finished edges differ in performance? Which cuts faster? Which takes a better keen edge? So many questions!!!
That ATS34 Nessmuk is the same as 154CM, I remember when the steel to get was the Japanese Aichi Tool Steel 34 and that was because Bob Loveless was having a hard time getting Crucible Steel's ball bearing steel 154CM, the designation stood for 15% Chromium, 4% Molybdenum Chromium Moly and was developed in the late 1950s for hot working jet engine ball bearings, the moly giving the hot work ability without tungsten which was in short supply. My first and last foray into an underground tungsten mine was in the Tungsten Hills near Bishop, CA. I made it to lunch and first elevator up, if that's what you would call that thing. Seems I don't like being underground in small tunnels.
My first thought was do I want to spend an hour watching two guys pitching knives. But when I found out it was what they personally acquired through the year, it was an hour well spent. My only disappointment was missing some drops on pieces I would have liked for my own. I’m glad to see the Presidio 2 on the table. It never gets the attention in Benchmade’s lineup like the Griptilian does. It’s a solid knife that’s been around a long time. And Behring Made makes some beautiful knives too. They have a steady output of knives each week. But if you see one you like, you better pull the trigger. They sell quickly.
@@grovesy333 Swiss Army Knives are multitools. I'm very clearly referring to traditional slipjoint pocket knives with my comment. I even referenced one.
The first thing I saw before you even started speaking was the Leatherman Juice' I wasn't aware they brought it back. Very glad to hear that! Also, buying a knife with the intention to modify it first thing is not really buying a knife, it's purchasing parts for a custom project.
Always cool to see some of the knives I own on the table. Looks like I see a few more I need to own! Great video to send us into 2023. Happy New Years KC team!
With all the knives I own, I always seem to go back to the Spyderco techno 2. I like the durability of the titanium scales, the practicality of the drop point blade and it's legal to carry. And for design, it's still the best looking knife.
I got a Presidio II last year... Love it This s is my jam. Either the full sized or the mini - Which may be my next folder. I was about to purchase a Crooked River - which was kinda' my "grail" knife... But, I went with the Presidio II, after getting it in hand. My first "Butterfly"... I am very satisfied.
12:25 “Dao” in Chinese is a literal translation to the word “knife”, much like “messer” is “knife” in German. However, as with messer, the definition is slightly different from the English word. Chinese dao is a single-edged cutting implement, spanning from kitchen knives, utility knives, to single-edged swords. A double-edged “sword” is called “Jian” for differentiation.
Definitely some beautiful chunks of iron you have! :) That Spydie Stretch 2 XL sure looks an awful lot like the old Police variant made oh so long ago.
I'm hoping to get myself a couple of custom fixed blades from Furnace Brook Iron Works, in Vermont, the Frontier Trade Knife (a classic Voyageur pattern) and the Small Trapper/Bushcraft knife. I've never owned any carbon steel knives, but something about these pre-Revolution styles really appeals to me.
Happy New Year to all the KnifeCenter people. I honestly look forward to the videos on Thursdays and Saturdays. And now I'm looking forward to SHOT Show coverage. :)
It's cool to see seth showing moki knives the quality is second to none fun fact they also make falkniven folders at there factory seth defo has the edc bug
There’s honestly thousands of blades but in my book nothing beats a nice Swiss Army knife even if it’s softer steel if you pair one with your main folder or just go with it on it’s own you can’t go wrong at all, Spyderco knives are some of my all time favourites too fantastic products
They did a whole video on best the boxcutters, but long story short, Spydercos did really well, and you want a high edge retention steel like M390/S90V/Cruwear/M4/K390 etc
What i have always liked about the oldachool persidio is the audible mechanical tones you get from actuating it. Super addictive clicky tones makes more fun for figiting.
I have 3 "rotational" carry knives and 1 constant. The constant is a swiss multi tool I keep on my belt. Literally used every single day. The pocket knife I carry most is my Microtech Combat Troodon DE. If it's not that one, then either my ZT 0452CF or my Spyderco Hungarian. All of them great knives and I highly recommend any one of them
Hey David, I bought the Work Tuff Gear Nomad EDC 3.5" N690 on your recommendation and the spine of the knife (which is very sharp) totally tore up the top interior of the kydex sheath (lots of plastic shavings on top of the spine when I pulled it out) and I unfortunately had to return it.
You flubbed! After it stops tearing up the sheath then you're golden after that! Or you could have carefully deburred the part tearing up the sheath because Nomad EDC is extra special!
My large knife is the Benchmade SuperFreek. Like for DCA, the Shaman is a bit too burly for me (and I don't like that it hits my finger when closing). My main EDC blade is the Bugout with blue anodized Flytanium Crossfade scales (those scales are gorgeous). However, this position is highgly contested by the Quiet Carry Drift and the GiantMouse Ace Biblio. My Gentlemens carry is the Boker LRF Damast (2 tone anodized handle/liners)
Are we going to see any Nordsmith fixed blades in stock this year? LTW seems to be back on track with production lately. Fun video guys, happy new year.
Happy New Year the both of you have my taste in knives and actually showed me a bushcraft and multi tool T4 which I hope to get soon or settle the Victronox the yellow knife I am happy with the Crew 10 ka Bar I was hoping to afford the 9" but the 5 1/2" dude is awesome it actually seems larger when you use it Happy New Year again
The knife center exclusive Shaman was nice. It was the first Shaman that I bought, gifted that thing out on Christmas. I own a lot of Spyderco from Dragonflys to Enduras and a lot in between. To date, the best Spyderco purchase I have made is the S90 / peel ply carbon fiber Yojumbo. No pivot lube, no adjustments, haven't taken it apart... the blade flies open with a thumb flick ( I have arthritis ). Its so good... I bought two! I can't believe they are still in stock! Did they make it onto a video?
Really fun seeing the great knives and hearing all your thoughts in general. I had to order two of them (the knives). Missed the boat on the 15V, makes your vid on knives of the week pretty important. Thanks guys.
I wish I knew someone with a Spiderco so I could give it a try to see if function really exceeds form. I have a lot of difficulty getting past the bulging eyeball, pterodactyl design.
definitely two knife geeks. i do have to say i appreciate the recognition of the brilliance of the Leatherman juice but then he made a comment about the best one they made(at least from a cabinet makers who uses sharp blades dozens of times a day) The purple one, whatever it's number has the pliers, saw, scissors(not as good as Victornox but not bad, and the best file on any multi tool I've ever come across. Diamond One side, rough bastard on other. He was going to chuck the file? I can't explain how great it is to have a file right on hand that can deal with a dull blade. Even if just for a temporary touch up before it's sharpened. Many years ago i realized that REI couldn't restock these 4 juice tools and thought I'd better get a spare purple diamond hone in case. Well, in case happened when i absentmindedly decided to escort my wife in to her flight. i took my Spyderco and keychain Victornox mini champ 2 off but forgot i had the juice on my belt. Tsa melted that down I'm sure. Now my basically brand new replacement sits in the bedstand but is still incredibly handy every once in a while. But I'd rather have it then lose another. My Swiss champs are in drawers where they can be really l readily reached for. I think Benchmark is over rated and my favorite edc has been my spyderco yojimbo for many years. It's supposed to be s 'fighting' knife but i use it in my woodshop for everything from box cutting to intricate carving. I suppose it's a bit heavy for most but the trade off is worth it. Just picked up an Artisan 3.5 inch cleaver and it's by far the best new blade for me in 23. Civivi is great but kind of a snooze. Bang for buck is Coast (yup) skinny ass founders series with the tanto blade. for under $50 it succeeds on every level and is better looking then it's crkt look alike ceo. So used to bigger blades the tanto feels like a toothpick in my pocket.
I've been edc a Leatherman sidekick since 2016 & it's my main tool 🤷🏼♂️ then I've been trying to find a good folder as a secondary, I went Benchmade route with the 9400, bailout, 555 & 575. I'd have to say the 575 is my favorite folder so far. Also I purchased a Spyderco smallfly 2 & a rock jumper. Now that smallfly 2 has to be the most prolific purchase of my knife life 🤷🏼♂️. Do you guys have any videos about pocket Balisongs?
You guys really need to try a Jason Perry knife works blade. The heat treat is amazing, the handle, simple and useful, and price is great. Just a great tool.
I have a field spec edc1 in black micarta with the wharnie blade. It’s awesome. What about yours is semi-custom? Just curious, I know there are some custom scales available, but his full customs typically have pinned handles. I think he either had bestech or Reate make the field specs. Not sure which OEM, but whoever did it did a fantastic job.

I agree on those styles man I've always loved case knifes cause that's what my dad and grandad carried but the steel sucks
That Smacket really looks like a classic native beavertail. LOVE it.
DCA I had the same idea with juices... OMG! Great minds think alike! Please lobby leatherman to produce that model!!!!!
What a great episode! Thanks for sharing the knives and your thoughts with us.
A victorinox rambler & spyderco dragonfly ✌️ happy new year 🍺
I love my K.H. Daily pocket bushcrafter. I hope he makes a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe version sometime .
Awesome video.
What is the best pocket knife/steel for breaking down boxes?
Thank you.
DCA- That Behring Nessmuk is gorgeous! Well done!
Hi Seth, good to see you!
This was sooo much fun! Best kite videos on the tube!
Seth V. has been putting some serious effort into this curly locks. Nice job, Seth. Keep it up.
All of them great knives and I highly recommend any one of them
Love a video like this. It made my Saturday morning! Thanks fellas , Happy New Year 🎉
Hey David, I bought the Work Tuff Gear Nomad EDC 3.5" N690 on your recommendation and the spine of the knife (which is very sharp) totally tore up the top interior of the kydex sheath (lots of plastic shavings on top of the spine when I pulled it out) and I unfortunately had to return it.
You flubbed! After it stops tearing up the sheath then you're golden after that! Or you could have carefully deburred the part tearing up the sheath because Nomad EDC is extra special!
I'm looking forward to this year's edition!
The Ka- Bar BK - 40 you presented, are myself and my son's EDC. Thanks.
Wow, I didn’t realize the video was an hour long - I was so engrossed in all the different knives. Great video..!!
Are we going to see any Nordsmith fixed blades in stock this year? LTW seems to be back on track with production lately.
Fun video guys, happy new year.
Some cool stuff in the pipeline and I do hope they come this year :) -DCA
Manix 2 is my all time favorite knife, of any brand, just melts in my hands, happy to see it on the table
I have a Benchmade 590 Boost and I’m looking for slimmer scales for it. Any advice?
TIA 16:42
So many knives to add to my want list! Thanks for sharing. Drop bear is at the top of my list still!
🎉Have a wonderful year in 2023!!! Great video to watch the new year in with; Thx again
Love the crooked river! Surprised not to see a super freak.
Great to see different knives ‼️ not the same ol button lock 👍
Holy smokes look at that table!!! This is gonna be a good one!
Stumbled upon the Benchmade Presidio 2 at a gunshow, got it for 120 yesterday. A bit stiff but it's super nice, my first high end knife
Thanks for everything guys! Love these personal vids!
That rams horn handle looks soo good DCA!
definitely two knife geeks. i do have to say i appreciate the recognition of the brilliance of the Leatherman juice but then he made a comment about the best one they made(at least from a cabinet makers who uses sharp blades dozens of times a day) The purple one, whatever it's number has the pliers, saw, scissors(not as good as Victornox but not bad, and the best file on any multi tool I've ever come across.
Didn’t know you could be a pro knife enthusiast.
Some very interesting takes and prospectives on your journey
The Endela is not a new wisbang design, but Spyderco has done so well at designing and building knives that just work.
I love that you guys are showing things you don’t even carry.
I use a Presidio auto as my EDC and have for many years. It holds a decent edge and is tough.
Got my semi custom BMKT field spec edc1 fixed blade and it immediately became my new everyday carry.
