14ft 6in Post Boat by Character Boats, is now for sale. Details on website at www.postboat.co.uk (The mast now hinges at deck level so can be lowered with all rigging in place)
A lovely little boat. I hope she brings you much joy. Personally, I think gaff is overkill for such a small vessel. If the gaff is solid timber and 20+ft long controlling 400 ++ sq.ft, then double, multi-part halyards make sense. For a boat of this size a Gunter or standing lug with a “round and back” lacing instead of those fiddly parrel beads would be my choice.
Love the boat my friend, BUT FOR ME the motor would be removed. (I would replace it with a sculling ore in the same space,) I use a Beverly Dinghy for my sailing, and it has a Balanced Lug Rig on it, and a jib much the same as yours, on a bow sprite. Have you ever thought of adding to your boom end a topping lift? .... I have one no mine so that if I want to stop off some where for a short time I can lower the topping a bite for the main sail, then raise the boom all the way up until everything is against the mast. by first fixing a hold down on the boom at the mast it keeps the boom to the mast low, then raising the other end of the book upward to the mast, lazy jakes keep the sail to the boom as they are then all raised to rest against the boom/mast. out of the way, yet ready to drop and run. (sorry about forgetting the names of the rigging, and the long winded explanations, and possible miss spellings) It is far easier to do than to explain , that IS A Fact.
I can see a lot of love went into this theres somthing to be said for well maintained timber on a boat to much carbon fiber and plastic these days well done and happy sailing to you
That is a seriously long tiller Roger Parish. A gorgeous boat though. I used to have a 20 Foot Comet, (fibreglass cabin job that sleeps 4. She was a bitch to get off the trailer as we only had bunk type trailers then but sailed beautifully regardless of the weather. I miss sailing. Had to give it up due to poor health. Hope you enjoy your for years to come.
I have just bought a second hand Post Boat and so far am very pleased with it. One irritation is that at anything over 4kns the Honda engine makes a horable noise as the prop spins. I can't see an way of lifting the engine, have you any solutions?
Have watched this video many times and must say without doubt best looking sail dinghy around would love to own one of these , I f I could afford one excellent
OK. Not a bad little boat. Nice tabernacle.. should have put an electric motor in instead of the gas machine.. and man.. submarine the trailer and the launch will be a 'float off' job.. it looks like fresh water so what have you got to be so careful for?
I was thinking the same! I'm considering buying a 2nd hand one of these, but after seeing the time and hassle involved in rigging up (compared to my 13'6" dinghy with a single unstayed lugsail), I'm not so sure now...
Some people would be bored watching a guy assemble a dinghy : not me, I was fascinated. Now, full disclosure : I'm a landlubber but I like boats with no motor like this one :- th-cam.com/video/cV0S16WntSg/w-d-xo.html Consequently my heart sank when I saw Roger's neatly integrated outboard. Is there a word for folk who don't like motors , is it purists ?
For a 14 footer she's way too overly rigged, did I really see twin topping lifts? Too much string everywhere! With less string you could save a small fortune on all those natty expensive fittings. Here's a boat crying out for the KISS approach. Me? I've been rigging and sailing traditional boats and tall ships for 48 years...
Geoff Goggins, Actually, if you knew anything about it you would realise a boat like this is made for old folks - wanting something stable and not too challenging, If you are a young chap and lusting after this boat you need to get a life.
It was originally made for delivering the mail to the islands. Solid, rugged, dependable. Of course, Roger’s boat is a replica; built for discerning sailors of all ages.
Beautiful boat. Nice woodwork and hardware. Looks like it sails very well.
Your boat is a work of art! Proper deep-keeled, yawl type, not just a big dinghy. It's very much like Matthew Flinders' Tom Thumb ll . Well done!
She's beautiful & perfect; must have taken a lot of time, effort & patience - but the end result is fantastic. Congratulations!
That's a very fine craft. Perfect day boat. Wish Character Boats were easier to come by in the US.
A lovely little boat. I hope she brings you much joy.

Nice, those who like this little gaffer and who could not, would also appreciate the Pocketship.
Love the way stepping the mast works! Never seen that before.
beautiful Little Boat you have there mate...
Everything looks pristine!!!!! and... what a tiller handle bar!!!!
Lovely - hope you have had a lot of fun in her. Nice video
Look at the specs. Those boats are massively built. Real old school brit boat there.
Juat a hint I love to hear the water on the hull of the boat, rather than weird music. It way more relaxing.
wonderful little boat. beautiful

Lary Mayotte I'd go with a yulow but yeah I hear ya!✌
Lary Mayotte , good on you sir, but as my dear mother used to say, “ to each his own said the old lady as she kissed the cow!”
Pretty , having said that , looks like a lot of work for a day boat . But it is a beautiful little boat .
Would have been nice to have heard her sail.
I can see a lot of love went into this theres somthing to be said for well maintained timber on a boat to much carbon fiber and plastic these days well done and happy sailing to you
Very pretty little boat.
By the time you are ready to launch it's time to go home!
it looks like a well made boat . and good looking

Beautiful boat. But now I feel better about all the work to launch mine.

I hope you kept her and enjoy

Wonderfull boat and video.
Cute boat but the tiller is so over the top it detracts from the boat.
start at 5:24 that's when he gets on the boat.
Actually, it starts at the beginning, where he’s rigging the boat.

Nice video. Would have liked to hear you, too.
A Dream 😊❤

Why don't you explain what you are doing, instead of the music?
So did you sell it and for how much?
Nice boat, Me Hearty !
Una barca di 14 piedi che dovrebbe esser easy.....è diventata una impegnativa.
Needs a mainsheet cleat.
YOU NEVER CLEAT YOUR MAINSHEET!!
@@cjsb22lr ,
Perhaps on a 40 footer, but never on a dinghy!
It doesn’t need a vang.
👍
Roger thanks for you video help me a lot,I'm brasileirohahehi
Watch this with the sound off. Why do people insist on awful soundtracks for their videos?
My real last name is Cullen. I may be related to you boat.
