Cephalopod ink can be used as a smoke screen, but more often a squid or cuttlefish will use a blob of ink as a decoy. They will eject a blob of ink while simultaneously changing color and taking off 90 degrees to their former angle of travel. You can even chase a cuttlefish, knowing that it's going to pull this trick on you, and still be fooled every time!
YES! More invertebrate videos! There are so many amazing prehistoric molluscs, insects, arachnids, echinoderms, cnidarians, etc. to cover that it would be great if you could continue this! Can’t wait to see Dr. Polaris cover the evolution of flies, wasps, eurypterids, horseshoe crabs, solifuges, scorpions, crinoids, sea stars, corals, jellyfish, sponges, and so much more!
one of the best scenes of Prehistoric Planet was seeing all the different types of Ammonites that lived during the end of the Cretaceous alone and knowing how diverse Cephalopods where during prehistoric times. I would love to see a similar sequence with Belemnites in a near future documentary.
10:25 I read a study published like last week which describes a new species of vampire squid, so now there should be two living species, V. infernalis and V. pseudoinfernalis
I always found it kind of messed up that octopi are that intelligent, yet two years is old as dirt for them. Ammonites could definitely be their own video since there were so many of them.
You should make a video about the Aphaneramma, which is a crocodile-like genus, that are amphibians that swam the oceans. I love your channel and your videos.
I always love your work, but where did you get the graphic at 4:17? Its style looks like professional textbook work, but it has two spelling errors in the first panel. Vamp-y-r-opoda (as in Vampyromorpha) and Vampyromor-p-h-a.
I’ve mentioned this before in Anthony pain’s video about squids and their evolutionary history, but the giant squid and colossal squid are the closest to an actual kraken.
Hey Dr.Polaris, right after the Cryptid called the Bunyip, why don't you think about making a suggestion and creating a TH-cam Videos that's all about the evolution of and the history of the Prehistoric Marine Reptiles called the Plesiosauria, (Plesiosaurs, Pliosaurs, And Polycotylus) in the next couple of weeks to think about that one coming up next?!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍
Considering it's a lizard, and their closest relatives were either monitors or snakes, both of which are seen using forked tongues to navigate underwater, it would be much weirder if mosasaurs DIDN'T have forked tongues
Octopi are my favorite invertebrates, they are such weird and unique creatures. i think having one as a pet would be awesome but i hear they are pretty difficult to care for properly.
You said octopi so I'll share a fact: the final i is used to make plurals in latin, but octopus is a greek word! The correct plural in greek is octopodes, while in English it's octopuses.
big hairy man, little hairy man the big one just grabs you the little one its said has strange powers to entrance but what would i know I a gubarorginal
Sorry. In the English language it is officially octopuses. If he was speaking Greek it would be octopods, but he isn't. He's just saying a word derived from Greek, however the rules of the adopted language apply.
Hey Dr.Polaris, right after the Cryptid called the Yowie, why don't you think about making a suggestion and creating a TH-cam Videos that's all about the evolution of and the history of the Prehistoric Marine Reptiles called the Plesiosauria, (Plesiosaurs, Pliosaurs, And Polycotylus) in the next couple of weeks to think about that one coming up next?!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍

Ah yes the difference between a wet fart and a complete diarrhea hootenanny.
OH MY GOD! A DOCTOR POLARIS VIDEO WITHOUT A SINGLE "SMALL, CIVET-LIKE ANIMAL"!!
WTAF????!!!!!?????!!!!!!!??????
That expression does tend to come up a lot when I talk about early Cenozoic mammals!
YES! More invertebrate videos! There are so many amazing prehistoric molluscs, insects, arachnids, echinoderms, cnidarians, etc. to cover that it would be great if you could continue this!

YES CEPHLOPODS ARE MY FAVORITE ANIMAL
Omg, you also know Dr polaris?!

YES EXACTLY
Also hi

Wonderful as always doc. Can’t tell you how much I enjoy these videos!

“He’s Squidward, he’s Squidward, you’re Squidward, I’M SQUIDWARD! Are there any other Squidwards I should know about?”
Basal Mollusks: “Meow.”
I'm outta here!
best quote😄
A phylogenetic tree to visualize the relationships among the various cephalopod groups would have been really helpful. Otherwise a great video!
Yeah I tried to find a good recent example but was a bit worried about copyright issues!
I always found it kind of messed up that octopi are that intelligent, yet two years is old as dirt for them.
Ammonites could definitely be their own video since there were so many of them.
I’ll absolutely cover Ammonites in a future video.
I second this!
I’ve been looking for a video like this!
Keep up the good work 👍
Woah an invertebrate video that's new hope that we may see more in the future
Fav YTber fr
12:11 I don't disagree but I love how you worded that as though it's just another objective fact about them
I've always liked that you show things that are mostly unknown to the masses
Thank you very much for providing this interesting video!

Good video
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Cephalopods: exist
Internet Artists: "Well, I think we all know where this is going."
Chi nese octopus cartoons; tentacle fun time!!!
Bro this is cephlapretty good content
Hey! Happy to see the cryptozoology videos are coming back. Those are fun to listen to.
You should make a video about the Aphaneramma, which is a crocodile-like genus, that are amphibians that swam the oceans. I love your channel and your videos.

Love cephalopods videos❤
This video is a......slice of octo pie 😁....anyway the good doctor continues to make the medicine ya didnt know ya needed.
Fascinating creatures with sometimes great intelligence.
Imagine if they lived longer lives... if they weren't self-destructing cannibals.
Also they have a short life span
12:31 Ammonites 2.0? Hell yeah🐙
Such fascinating creatures
I’ve mentioned this before in Anthony pain’s video about squids and their evolutionary history, but the giant squid and colossal squid are the closest to an actual kraken.
They are almost certainly the inspirations for such
squid*, not squids

It amazes me that these beings have not developed adaptations for life in fresh water
Sorry I seriously doubt that sea reptile at 6:00 had a snake tongue like that.
Considering it's a lizard, and their closest relatives were either monitors or snakes, both of which are seen using forked tongues to navigate underwater, it would be much weirder if mosasaurs DIDN'T have forked tongues
Why is it called dumbo squid and not cuddlefish?
Octopi are my favorite invertebrates, they are such weird and unique creatures. i think having one as a pet would be awesome but i hear they are pretty difficult to care for properly.
I had no idea there were that many described octopus fossils.
YEAAAAAAA FUCK YEA
"among the cutest of invertebrates"
by what metric? you need to back up that claim with numbers😄
Common knowledge doesn't need citation
watching this while eating squid never felt so good
Not the beach episode
The Deep approves. 😅
You said octopi so I'll share a fact: the final i is used to make plurals in latin, but octopus is a greek word! The correct plural in greek is octopodes, while in English it's octopuses.
All versions are correct.
How about octopodes?
Actually we speak English, so the correct plural is octopuses, an answer that satisfies no one.
big hairy man, little hairy man the big one just grabs you the little one its said has strange powers to entrance but what would i know I a gubarorginal
Who said you need internal skeleton to be intelligent?
Saddest animal in existence... Imsgine being so smart and having the ink but nothing to write on.
🐙🦑👍😊
New video
"I wish squids were real."
-some guy on splatoon's chat lobby
The plural of squid is just squid, not squids. Similar to words like sheep, aircraft etc.
@@JohnyG29 and yet Octopus isn't plural of itself (while Cuttlefish is).
Grammar truly is as weird as the cephalopods themselves.
im gonna order some calamari tonight
Cthulhu likes this video.
are you ok? what's up with your voice
thanks for this! but making a cryptid video seems like a waste of time ...for everyone involved
the plural is octupuses or octopodes, never octopi!
But what do you call a cephalopod dessert?
Octopie
It is NEVER octopi! Octopus comes from the Greek so Octopuses or octopods!
If everyone says octopi then it's the correct version; that's how language works
Tch, OctoPODES.
Sorry. In the English language it is officially octopuses. If he was speaking Greek it would be octopods, but he isn't. He's just saying a word derived from Greek, however the rules of the adopted language apply.
What do you get when you cross a Giant Squid with a Trump supporter??
