Michael Neal yeah I was gonna say the ctsv swap is a better option and imo is cooler having those. Did you buy the calipers new? Any problems? I was thinking of doing this in the new year since it's a fairly cheap and quality mod.
I bought the calipers new from amazon when they went on sale for $105 each. So far I've driven a few thousand miles on them with no problems at all. I would definitely say it's worth it especially with how much you are saving
What a clean tutorial video! Great work! Nice upgrade in performance. So many guys do the engine and exhaust first, then the brakes last. It should be the other way around, in my opinion.
Years on, this video is helping me switch from an 18Z x 355mm kit (down) to the Brembo GT 4 piston 328mm setup for my Audi. Thanks for a great video - very helpful!! (BTW the 18Z kit is great, just too much, I've iced my ABS twice and I've out grown the longer pedal travel)
Thanks Thomas and F86SpeedFactory for the helpful vid. I put the OEM Brembos F&R on my '16 BRZ Series HyperBlue. It would have been nice to know up front, couple things-but no regrets and love the big red Brembos all around. For rears, you need to replace the backing plates with OEM larger ones-about $80/ea from Subaru. Or hack up your car cutting the lip off the stock plates and I didn't want to do that. Swapping rear backing plates means also replacing axle nuts as they're one time usage but cheap at $4. The entire rear drum parking assembly needs to come off and back onto the larger backing plate which was not difficult but time intensive. And finally-I found out the hard way, not thinking it through, your compact spare will no longer work once you have big red Brembos-you'll need the larger compact spare wheel and tire from a BRZ/F86 w/performance pack. I did a 1000mile RT-luckily without a flat as I basically had no spare until I upgraded that too. Overall-glad I did the mod-love the Brembos and the GT kit looks like a great value-after what I had to pay for my OEM Brembos.
2:47 ROTOR FIRST COMES INTO CONTACT WITH THE LEADING PISTON ... GENERATE MORE HEAT ... LARGER TO HAVE THE SAME LEVEL OF PRESSURE. Was this a joke? :) The uneven pressure has nothing to do with heat/temperature. Pistons are hydraulically connected, so the amount of *pressure* on the pistons is always the same. With equal piston sizes the forces applied by pistons to the pads are also the same. The real reason is that the friction applied to the face of the pad creates torque that tries to turn the trailing edge of the pad away from the rotor. To compensate for that, the trailing pistons need to press on the pads harder than leading pistons.
If you buy the car new, the performance package is a no brainer and cheaper. If you dont have the performance package and plan to upgrade, the Brembo GT Kit could be the better choice over the OEM Brembos. But I would also consider other brake kits in this situation.
I paid $2500 for the OEM Brembo Performance pack w/4 calipers, rotors, backing plates and hoses-all w/400 miles on them off the 2017 BRZ Subaru Auto show car. I have a couple of paint niks to touch up on calipers and bought 4 new Brembo OEM hoses for safety peace of mind. Took me awhile to find a deal.
Did you mean your brake pads stopped your car? Any brake system is able to lock the wheels in the same way. The difference would be your pads or, if tracking, a bigger brake system would last longer before fading/overheating
Thomas-Great video-they're always nice from you guys. Was wondering why you don't show doing the rears...Until I did the rears! TONS more work and hassle! You need larger backing plates-$70 from Subaru, but then to swap them w/OEM non-performance pack rears, axle nut, hub/bearing assy has to come off, and back on. A lot to do, but once I had all the parts not difficult-just a process. Sure-I could have just hacked off the stock backing plate lip w/die grinder, but my Hyper-Blue is not a car I want to hack up! Glad I did it this way-but it was not easy finding info on upgrading the rears.
civic type r fk8,evo 5-10,wrx sti pre 17 and brz ts share the same brembo caliper, which you could always order from online, for example fk8 front caliper is only $280 each side, so all you have to do is odder the caliper mount from OE, then choose what ever pads and discs you need, it will be way way way less than a Brembo GT kits
chole ly they give you a discount for buying the performance package on top of a brand new car on top. Theres no way you sincerely think that subaru sells brembos under 1k
Sorry for the stupid question, but I purchased a car with Brembo system and it needs rotor and pad change, can I just buy top quality OEM rotor and pad? Will it fit?
i have to replace the rotors on my gt86 trd edition and it comes with the brembo brake package. do i have to get tha exact brembo rotor ? or can i get it from a different company ? if so which ones would fit , i would appreciate any help
RockAuto has dual piston caliper, rotors and pads for $550cad ($400) front l/r or $950cad all around. I highly doubt the Brembos are even 25% better despite being 4x more money
Wait, so that $1.9k BBK package doesn't come with pads or rotors? So even after spending that much, you *still* need to drop another couple stacks just to complete the "kit"? Damn. Brakes are expensive...
To avoid a collision I went off the road , hitting the curb damaging a tire and rim. Replaced rim and tire. But I feel a vibration when going down the road now. Like something bent. Any ideas? What it is?
You can upgrade the rears, but the front brakes do the majority of braking, about 75% of it and they generate a lot more heat because of that. The biggest brake improvements will come from upgrading the fronts. If you want front and rears, check out this kit - www.ft86speedfactory.com/ft86sf-4-piston-ats-brembo-big-brake-kit-2013-ft86.html#.XS3aBOhKgkk
Mounting the calliper in front of the axle instead of the sti trailing position will mess up the bleeding trapping air how’d you get around that dilemma??
please everyone who bleeds Brembo brakes, use a piece of 3/16 tubing into a drain pan so brake fluid doesn't come in contact with the caliper. that pretty red paint will be ruined if brake fluid doesn't get cleaned off immediately.
I had some of the bleeders leaking during a track day (despite being torqued to spec earlier!), and by the time I noticed that it affected the inside bleeders too, the fluid was sitting on the caliper for a few days, if not weeks. The paint on the caliper was perfectly fine after I wiped the caliper with a damp rag.
Even though I didn't buy Bremmo brakes for my truck; they're very expensive and they cannot be delivered to my P.O box, I had to settle with a different brand of brakes which have offered phenomenal stopping power and are of the drilled, slotted variety. In conclusion, my Ford F-150 stops MUCH better than its original stock brake set and I've been shifting to lower gears when going down steep hills and those with sharp turns; NEVER floor your brake pedal in those events, or your rotors will warp and get damaged.
Got my Brembo discs for 150 putting Bendix pads on original calipers should work out fine as the rotor is oe standard size of 298 mm and my ford falcon calipers are huge no need to spend all that money
What are the differences between this kit and the GT kit of more than 3400 $ in your site? www.ft86speedfactory.com/brembo-4-piston-front-bbk-slotted-or-drilled-327.html

why do you compress the brake pedal wouldent you loose more fluid? also i normally take the brake line off last to minimize fluid lost and air getting into the system. whatd your thought process behind that am i missing something?
Brembo brakes are the Gucci belt of the car world, does a normal belt work just fine? Yeah. Does a Gucci belt flex harder on broke boys? Of course.
😂😂😂😂
Brembos are better than base FT86 brakes for track driving. They also make swapping pads much easier.
MAN you dumb...yeh im talkn to you goochy boi

I'll get some in the next one.
If you're gonna spend around 2k on bbk for your frs/brz/86, you should just get the essex sprint kit
Rooni Avakian The RR racing kit is great as well.
Andrew Petee or a budget ctsv swap

Has Brembo released a kit for the 2022 GR86? Any plans on a factory BBK for the 2022 GR86? I still haven't heard of this in North America from TRD.
Is there a link on how to remove that bracket on top which holds the pads in? Does it just pop off, or do I need to unscrew those retainers too?
Great video! Y’all got a Brembo brake kit for a Mazda 6 2015? I can’t seem to find it anywhere

Does the gt kit fit in the 2017 stock wheels? I plan to use them in winter and don't want to swap brakes twice a year...

For primarily daily driving and summer auto cross, what would be the better choice? The Brembo GT kit or the AP Racing Sprint Kit?
Performance brake kits are so sexy. I would buy it just for the looks rather than function wise lol
hi, do they fit in factory original 17” wheels?
Continuing the trend of brembo being the only performance brakes most people have heard of, I see.
I’m hoping this kit works in the 22 BRZ
Will Volk TE37 Saga 18x9.5 bronze fit these brakes with out spacers
Does any of these brake kit fits in the stock 17" wheel on the frs?
Leo Can nope. Not enough clearance. You’ll need aftermarket or spacers
I have the GT version on my new Toyota gt86
But they are so loud when slowly breaking
It’s really weird
The radial mount doesn't have any advantages since they are axial mounted to the knuckle.
Does the GT kit give torque specifications?
Will this brake kit fit the 2020 bronze sti brz wheels by any chance even if it does need wheel spacers?
Would this kit have any clearance issues with TSW Nurburgring 18x8 +35 wheels?
in my frs I can only get the OE package?
When you get a bbk on the front do you need to pair it with the EXACT rear version of the fronts ?
Is this works on method race wheels rims
Can you use MTEC steel braided lines with the brembo kits?
Are the performance package calipers considered a BBK? Or can you use “standard” sized brake pads ?
They use different size brake pad from your OEM non Brembo pads
I like this rotor 😮 can you give me the # or the name of the rotor
The performance package only cost $1200 as the factory option.
Well yeah, they sell it under cost because you're buying a car at pretty much twice its value
