WELTAC® resistance element welding for modern multi-material car body design

In the first process stage, a rivet-like resistance element, used as the auxiliary joining part made of a material compatible with the base sheet, will be punched in the upper material layer (i.e. aluminium). The issue of different physical properties, which might appear during the second process stage - the welding process - is thus avoided. The resistance spot welding systems, only existing at the customers’ premises, can still be used for modern body construction architectures. Different degrees of multi-material designs can be combined on the same body construction line.
